  1. Yes, all good. I have sent you a PM....the noise is about 3k rpm, low for an big end (?) Doesnt smoke etc.
  2. In sort of an answer to your question about mesh. When I was younger I drove artics, one particular load was Rover parts. They all came in big MESH crates. When empty, the truck would go faster with a tarp over the load, so the wind had to go round everything, than when the wind could go through the mesh.
  3. Hi All, I have asked this before, sort of, I have a noise from my TT, sounds similar to a big end just starting to go, its there when you blip the throtle to around 3+K and back. After some thinking/scratching heads etc I stripped the bottom end to check the bearings, and they are all good. Engine is very clean inside too. now I am stuck. ITS NOT lifters, injectors etc. I have a slight bit of piston slap, always have had, and its not that that I am talking about. Any ideas?
  4. I agree with Legrath, buying cheap might well be buying trouble. Get what you pay for, usually
  5. My brother used to do this years ago, before it went out of fashion and then came back in. The flakes are mixed in the laquer, but you need lots of coats to get the deep look, and wet and dry to flat each coat, IIRC, then clear on top. So its quite labour intensive.
  6. Just to add to this "Big End Thing" Mine too seems to have a noisy end, 53k miles, jap TT 1994 model, had it 4 years, good oil allways, never over heated etc etc. Never really thrashed either. ????
  7. The reason I said the cats "hide" the smoke is because a friend had a carlton GSi 24v, he removed the cats, it smoked, every year for MOT he refitted them, and no smoke. Easy as that.
  8. TBH I dont really understand this smoking/de-cat/straight thru exhaust thing. Maybe you didnt notice it before? Maybe someone on here who is clever can tell us. Sorry, but its a typical result of exhaust/de-cat move. Especially on 200Sx
  9. The cats can take the smoke out of the exhaust, remove the cats and you can get smoke, I bet if you put them back in it would stop.
  10. Also seal the ends well, or the dryer will try and dry the world, and then it will not dry your gas when you re fill.
  11. Check the oil. look for burning, smell it too,
  12. IIRC Truvelo's dont have a strip of white lines painted on the road every time. And as they use those three detector strips across the road I cant see how, if both cars are on the strips at the same time, that they could know which was which. I also dont think they care which was which. Which brings us back to the point of this topic. IF, these cameras were a genuine effort to reduce speed, they would care (in this case) but as they are for making money, and/or showing us who's boss, does it matter if the Alfa pay's or the Galaxy pays? Or both?
  13. Old Tyre, Petrol, Matches, Flame, The End.
  14. I agree in having the water as an extra safety measure, this is what I intend on doing. (And if I cant check the water level then thats my fault). And if adding methanol or some other mixtures adds some HP then thats also my aim. BTBH, more than anything I just fancied doing it to see.
  15. Some say water injection is just a "Good Idea" as it looks after the engine, and the MEthanol can add HP, some say 50BHP. I am doing mine when I have fixed my big end. I have got the kit.....and I am not running massive boost either...
  16. As I said, your missing the point. It is not, IMHO, the "speeding" as such, but the way, the locations, the amount, the REAL reasons, the propaganda, the "going against the will of the people", the dishonesty, the excuses. An offical from Notts was caught commenting on the amount of REVENUE they were NOT getting when they first installed a SPECS system there. He said that they had over estimated the profit from the cameras and that they would actually make a LOSS out of it, because they were too effective and cars were going slower.. How is slowing cars down making a LOSS? Surely its safer? Is this not the (claimed) reason for them all? Of course it is, BUT THATS NOT THEIR REASON for doing it. That is the POINT. So they have to cheat to make a profit.
  17. Yes, too simple, and easy to say. But IMHO you are missing the point Gio. No Offence
  18. Trev, I agree with you. This is not about "speeding" in isolation. Its about unfair laws being enforced for reasons other than the law's intended aims, ie, safer roads. Anyway, we have some of the safest roads now. Its not a carrot and stick, It just a big stick. This Blair government reminds me of the old communists, in Moscow they had their own private lanes to use on the roads. Everything is fair for all of us, its just that Blair and co have things even fairer for themselves. Need I mention TWO JAGS? (Prestcot) And dont start me on Gypsies/travelers/didecoys etc...
  19. Some official has now said, today I think, that speed cameras cause traffic jams too. The prob is too many, wrong locations, for the wrong reasons. AND they are dishonest too, buy that I mean when they change the speeed limit and place a camera the same day etc etc.
  20. Personally I dont understand anyone who drives a Z, or similar, who can also "accept" speed cameras. In towns, by schools etc, OK. But, as has been said already, when they are placed to catch just you for the revenue only. THAT IS WRONG. I live in Aylesbury, and some months ago 4 cameras got burnt. one was replaced, one was repaired, and two were just removed. If they were so inportant, in terms of location, why were they not all replaced?. The local police *****rs said in the paper they were a safetly thing as they were all within a mile and half of schools????? Oh, ok then. No one really speeds up after the camera do they? In a mile and a half a diesel Lupo would be able to do at least eighty MPH on a straight road. And the "vandals" were accused of putting peoples lives at risk because of the risk of the flames catching houses on fire. Nearest house was probably 80 feet away, and the flames would have had to cross a foot path and short grass. By the way Captain Gatso claimed his men did them.
  21. THEN run it throught the gears 4-5 times, and this should give you the correct warm level, the cold level is really only when you replace the fluid or topping up, and again avoid overfilling as it will give wrong gear changes or slipping, it shouldnt show overfull when cold or hot hey remember me??? LOL And no I am not saying anythinfg this time about runing it throught the gears.
  22. IMHO. if you have that many probs you may well find more soon. Take the engine out and fix it once and for all. Its prob easier just for doing the turbos
  23. http://www.alloywheelrepairs.net/ never used them myself.
  24. That would work, but you can never get it all so wet it and you going to be as safe as you get. Paint just loves to suck up dust.
