Has anyone ran any test to see what kind of restrictions the standard airbox has on the performance of a variety of modified 300zx (chipped, exhaust, turbo upgrades, forged etc...)? I’m finding myself being rather irritated by the noise of my cone air intake system (and the exhaust system) as I get older. However I am keen to keep the power level high and do want to look into a forged build with upgraded turbos, intercoolers, mapping and so on BUT want to keep the car civilised. Are there any 300zx out there with big power outputs yet nice and quite in the car! Cheers, Chris.

Ok, so the day after flying through it's MOT the car has developed an awful noise from the exhaust from around the cat area. It happens when releasing the throttle after accelerating, both on the move and when stationary. Initially I thought that the cat had broken inside it's housing. The problem is it doesn't happen when cold only after being fully warmed up and particularly after a good blast! Can a broken cat only show these symptoms when hot or could it be something more sinister? Here's a link to a sound file of the noise (hope it works), my phone was held near to the centre of the exhaust by the cats https://vocaroo.com/i/s0a6B5VSL3N6 …

  3. So for the past few weeks the Z has been backfiring heavily when coming down the rev range in any gear - without being pushed at all (just shifting down a gear and leaving it come down on it own). Recently i had the O2 sensors changed by Jimmer and some fresh turbos and it is more or less since then. I have bought a brand new MAF from Z1 and just changed the spark plugs all-round. Im also idling around 950 rpm, and can hear some break-up in the exhaust tone every few moments. Any suggestions on what to check next? 91TT Btw.

I want to make a statement about Stevens 300zx. I have deliberately not commented on his thread, initially out of respect to him as he fully deserves the sympathy he has received, and I did not want to cloud his thread, and latterly because I was aware this issue was to be discussed at the AGM. I want to point out that I am not a car dealer, just an enthusiast like the rest of you, and someone who had some spare cash and thought it would be a good idea to get some clean cars in from japan to help fellow members and new potential owners get into Z ing. I have in the past 3 years brought over 15 cars and 13 of them have followed my tried and trusted format. Where I bu…

Finally got round to replacing my knackered oxygen sensors. The pair were only £85 delivered, including import duty. I thought I'd post it, as it seemed like a good deal. They arrived in 6 days. https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bosch-13091-Oxygen-Sensor-/152779941235#vi__app-cvip-panel

Well nothing ever goes smoothly it seems....... On 30th June 2018, I ordered an BNIB OEM MAF from Z1 Motorsport for $291.27 On Wednesday 4th July @ 12.10, I got a text message saying I owed £27.09 in clearance and admin charges, so I paid this by 12.00 noon. I contacted fedex to see when i could expect delivery as it had said before noon. I was emailed back 0n 7th July @ 13.42 saying, "I am pleased to confirm that this shipment has been delivered on 4th of July at 10.18 am and is left at the front door" I was at work until 3pm on 4th July, so I took it the wife had signed for the item at 10.18am and began to ask her where my parcel was...... she had no …

Not the most liked Z's but this I would have in my garage. Very low miles in great condition and it has the very rare digital instrument cluster. Great price also. https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/nissan/300zx/nissan-300-zx/8797809

I now have my new clocks fitted to the Z but the new clocks have around 66,000 miles on them and my Z has done around 71,000 miles. Can I adjust the mileage on the new clocks without breaking the linkage or making the numbers look out of line?

  10. I have been to see two Z's in the past week both with comments like the ones Jeff shared in their descriptions in the Traders ansd MOT checking thread, I used the MOT history checker online which revealed a few things to question the sellers about but still there are so many other things that dont show up, I have seen rust that scares me when you dig deeper, obvious accident damage covered up and no doubt all manner fo other things I dont have the knowledge to spot. I have been looking to get back into a 2+2 Z again this year and after seeing peoples experiences with importers and having my hopes let down by supposed good cars I am getting very wary about dipping my toe i…

I’m just looking for a bit of advice on how to remove the standard UK gas struts. I can’t see any retaking clips and I’m worried I’m going to break something if I push them any harder. Cheers, Chris.

Well I brought my first 300zx n/a at start of this year, didn't really now rust areas but I liked the colour grey. So here begins I new it needed work after putting it on axle stands the horror showed its self and to be honest it should of never passed an MOT which was a new Mot in Jan 2018 (this was sold to me with MOT). all arb bushes were shot front discs well below wear limit the master cylinder had been leaking for a very long time so refurbished with new seals and de-rusted servo and painted. body wise where the subframe bracket meets cill rust was covered in gum poked hole in with finger. Undid front wing omg rotten. Must of spent a thousand on it already puttin…

This has been covered before but I can’t find the thread, I am looking for details of the stock 300zx in various guises eg SWB NA Slkck top manual, LWB NA Manual, to get an idea of the differences. Just as they came “claimed” as stock? Can anyone point me in the right direction please? I’m specifically interested in the differences of a NA slicktop manual and a stock TT LWB Manual.

Hopefully looking at making some changes to my Zed before I put it back on the road in spring. I'm looking at rebuilding as much of the underside as I have time for over the winter, including undersealing but mainly looking at swapping out the suspension and possibly adjustable arms and the like. Does anyone have any suggestions on available stuff, there seems to be a fair few options on Concept Z or are people preferring stock arms? Any "well if you're taking that out you might as well do..." to be aware of? (I'm sticking with HICAS). Current setup is KYB AGX/Eibach fitted by a previous owner. Its had a bushing kit a few years ago before I purchased it (c…

Just to make people aware I will be putting my Slicktop NA manual up for sale very soon! with most of the bits I bought for it that I spent an absolute fortune on. I want to move on to something else now after terrible experience I've had recently with trusting someone... I've lost all interest in it now! I'm super busy at the moment but I should have some free time in the next couple of days so I will try to list as much as I can which is quite a bit of stuff I will be selling that I got from CZP Arizona.

  18. After seeing the centre caps that I painted to a similar colour to my newly acquired SE37s Bobgenie asked me if I would re colour a pair of SE37s for his car. Challenge accepted. We both new before I started that it is impossible to 100% create the look of anodized aluminium with paint. With that in mind I made a start. Someone else had already painted them ...but it was way too dark.. I flatted them back and masked off the inner faces. I already had a paint process that worked so I just repeated it..... The final tone adjustment comes from misting on a very light coat of the "Rays Racing Bronze" aerosol supplied by Wheelpaints.co.uk. Once I was…

  20. First off like to bid say a big thank you to Josh at gorilla imports for sorting me out with this awesome looking spec S twin turbo. He's even going the extra mile to drop the vehicle off at Jimmy's at power Z to give it the once over before the keys are handed over to me to ensure everything is good! Turbos reconditioned cambelt changed in 2017 all this will be checked at power Z for peace of mind. this is what a club import should be doing to ensure customer satisfaction and not just trying to cash in for a quick Buck like Gazwoz did to me! The Z Should be landed in August. I'm really excited now my only regret is I didn't ask Josh first time around. with…

Evening guys. I’ve got a squeal on the belts, even tight, probably worn out or oil contamination. Where’s the best place to source? I’ve got an underdrive bottom pulley but standard pulleys on the others.

  24. Just replaced the stem seals and went to fire up the car after being built back up and seems to be firing when the inlet valve is open? (won't start, backfires and seen fireballs out throttle body) I stripped down the front end and redid the timing belt, had my old man who is also an engineer to check I wasn't doing something stupid and both agreed it was right (also turned engine over both ways and set back to original position and all marks lined up again) Tried to fire up before putting all back together but issue is still there. Only other thing I can think of is if I mixed up injector or coilpack wiring which seems unlikely as they are all different lengths so …

  25. I just wanted to say an enormous thank you to Jimmer. As a newcomer to Z32 ownership, Jim has guided me through everything, serviced my car when I found it and significantly and gradually improved it over the last 18 months. He has been absolutely brilliant. Sadly my work mileage is going to have to go up and it is unrealistic and unfair to expect the Zed to cope. As such it needs to find a new owner - https://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?189441-Nissan-300ZX-Twin-Turbo-Manual&p=1978140#post1978140 I have one last trip to do in her.
