Part required is a 3mm LES, I got mine from eBay. First you will need to remove the hazard switch from the air con pod. This is easy enough, remove the button by slipping a small blade screwdriver down the sides of the nob and ease the nob up. Now you successfully tugged your nob off you need to remove the pod face. Undo the two screws on the underside of the pod and ease the face off the pod. Unscrew the hazard switches two retaining screws, move the switch to gain access to the back and release the wiring harness. You now have the switch removed and need to split it to get to the grey lamp holder. Slide your small blade screwdriver down the si…

I’m booked in for an mot and whist doing my pre test inspection I noticed the near side main beam isn’t working. I’ve changed the lamp and checked the fuse but it’s still not working. I’m looking at the relays but the near side relay seems different to the offside so I’m reluctant to swamp them over to check it’s working. I’ve attached a picture of the fuse box for you guys to check everything looks as it should. Any ideas? Cheers, Chris.

  4. my 1990 300zx na broked down towed it to Auto repair shop and found out the engine needed to be replaced. So I found an engine with 80,000 miles. Few days after shop picked up the engine they told me it was the wrong engine and to return it. I called the seller of the engine back & he claimed the engine was the right engine and the shop didn't know what they were talking about and all it needed was some simple changes. The shop & engine seller went back & forth about the engine until finally the shop suggested I hire the seller to make the necessary engine changes which I did. The seller made the changes some which the shop said was impossible like cha…

Has anybody looked into Fuel Cooling in order to release a few extra BHP for not a lot of effort ?? If so, what did you do?, Im thinking of introducing a separate air cooler somewhere , somehow, I also wonder what power could be released with sufficient cooling, or even charge cooling on the fuel system. Thanks. Sayers

Auick question. My maf have died and i need the car to do up to 100miles this weekend for a wedding. Is there any consequeces of driving the car with maf unplugged. There will be no spirited driving. I believe the ecu will go on a basic map and will probably overfuel a bit. Should i worry about something? Car is uk tt manual. I have a choice of jdm tt manual, uk tt auto and mines ecus. Is there a particular one i should rather use?

Got a message from Jimmer that my car passed its MOT this morning ! He's just putting the final bits of trim back on and it's done !!!! I'm so excited to get it back ! In equal measure I'm gutted I can't get to Beaulieu.....apparently I have a family event I'm obliged to attend which is far more important. So I'm looking forward to the Boxhill-to-Brighton run as my first outing. Pics to follow when it's home.

Is there a drainage hole in the boot hatch? I ask because after cleaning my car I alway have a pool of water gather on the bottom off side corner of the rear screen. I can literally spend hours drying up the gathered water only for it to repool seconds later. However if I open the hatch a good amount of water then run off the back making me think there’s a blocked brain hole. Is this a common issue? Cheers, Chris.

Hi I am looking at a Z which has as an advisory "metal hydraulic clitch pipe corroding" I dont know what is involved in getting that rectified, is it an item that can be replaced easily or is it a big and costly job, any insight into this would be most welcome. I am not a mechanic so would not be doing this myself but would like to know what I might be in for.

I have been looking to remove the HIDs ready for my upcoming MOT but cannot get the normal bulbs to work... I have removed all of the HID wiring and left with a 2 pin socket and installed H3 bulbs. I have plugged the cable form the bulb into both of the terminals but it doesn't work and cannot find any pictures of the normal wiring / connection to know what is wrong. I am guessing a bit of wiring was removed but cannot remember as it was 4 years ago. Any advise?

Just in case anyone has any suggestions to help me before I order some injectors. So the morning of the AGM the car started up missing on the front two cylinders which were previously running fine. First cleaned the injector plugs, no joy. Ive swapped coils and the problem persisted, checked spark and the spark is strong, pulled the plugs and they are dry and white leading me to believe it has indeed got no fuel. So I checked the resistance of the injectors and they are within spec at 12-13.8 ohms. Voltage also checks out at 12.8V (early style injectors btw). So although they are within spec the cylinder still has no fuel in it so may just put some new i…

  14. If I want to take power from the clock to run a feed to my EBC, which are the best wires to take that feed from? Assuming the black being the ground, but there are two lives, a switched live from the ignition and a permanent live from the battery. I'm guessing I'll need the switched live? Would the Greddy Profec B lose its settings however if the switched live was used?

Has anyone ran any test to see what kind of restrictions the standard airbox has on the performance of a variety of modified 300zx (chipped, exhaust, turbo upgrades, forged etc...)? I’m finding myself being rather irritated by the noise of my cone air intake system (and the exhaust system) as I get older. However I am keen to keep the power level high and do want to look into a forged build with upgraded turbos, intercoolers, mapping and so on BUT want to keep the car civilised. Are there any 300zx out there with big power outputs yet nice and quite in the car! Cheers, Chris.

Ok, so the day after flying through it's MOT the car has developed an awful noise from the exhaust from around the cat area. It happens when releasing the throttle after accelerating, both on the move and when stationary. Initially I thought that the cat had broken inside it's housing. The problem is it doesn't happen when cold only after being fully warmed up and particularly after a good blast! Can a broken cat only show these symptoms when hot or could it be something more sinister? Here's a link to a sound file of the noise (hope it works), my phone was held near to the centre of the exhaust by the cats https://vocaroo.com/i/s0a6B5VSL3N6 …

  18. So for the past few weeks the Z has been backfiring heavily when coming down the rev range in any gear - without being pushed at all (just shifting down a gear and leaving it come down on it own). Recently i had the O2 sensors changed by Jimmer and some fresh turbos and it is more or less since then. I have bought a brand new MAF from Z1 and just changed the spark plugs all-round. Im also idling around 950 rpm, and can hear some break-up in the exhaust tone every few moments. Any suggestions on what to check next? 91TT Btw.

I want to make a statement about Stevens 300zx. I have deliberately not commented on his thread, initially out of respect to him as he fully deserves the sympathy he has received, and I did not want to cloud his thread, and latterly because I was aware this issue was to be discussed at the AGM. I want to point out that I am not a car dealer, just an enthusiast like the rest of you, and someone who had some spare cash and thought it would be a good idea to get some clean cars in from japan to help fellow members and new potential owners get into Z ing. I have in the past 3 years brought over 15 cars and 13 of them have followed my tried and trusted format. Where I bu…

Well nothing ever goes smoothly it seems....... On 30th June 2018, I ordered an BNIB OEM MAF from Z1 Motorsport for $291.27 On Wednesday 4th July @ 12.10, I got a text message saying I owed £27.09 in clearance and admin charges, so I paid this by 12.00 noon. I contacted fedex to see when i could expect delivery as it had said before noon. I was emailed back 0n 7th July @ 13.42 saying, "I am pleased to confirm that this shipment has been delivered on 4th of July at 10.18 am and is left at the front door" I was at work until 3pm on 4th July, so I took it the wife had signed for the item at 10.18am and began to ask her where my parcel was...... she had no …

Not the most liked Z's but this I would have in my garage. Very low miles in great condition and it has the very rare digital instrument cluster. Great price also. https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/nissan/300zx/nissan-300-zx/8797809

I now have my new clocks fitted to the Z but the new clocks have around 66,000 miles on them and my Z has done around 71,000 miles. Can I adjust the mileage on the new clocks without breaking the linkage or making the numbers look out of line?

  25. I have been to see two Z's in the past week both with comments like the ones Jeff shared in their descriptions in the Traders ansd MOT checking thread, I used the MOT history checker online which revealed a few things to question the sellers about but still there are so many other things that dont show up, I have seen rust that scares me when you dig deeper, obvious accident damage covered up and no doubt all manner fo other things I dont have the knowledge to spot. I have been looking to get back into a 2+2 Z again this year and after seeing peoples experiences with importers and having my hopes let down by supposed good cars I am getting very wary about dipping my toe i…
