I plan to clean my throttle bodies over the next few days, can anyone recommend a decent cleaner please? Also, when I have cleaned them, I plan to check that the butterflies shut correctly. Am I right in thinking that they should snap shut? or should there be a gap? My understanding is that they should close off completely, (snap shut) leaving the auxiliary air control system, in conjunction with the ECU to determine the correct tick over. Would that be correct?

  10. Started by redwine300,

Could someone help me understand the exact purpose and function of this valve please? Also, are there any multi meter readings that I may be able to try to both the valve itself and the voltage I should be looking for from the harness side? The reason I ask is, due to the cold but dry weather of late, I have been out and about in the zed quite a bit. problem is, my tick over starts at 1200 rpm and gradually settles at 750 rpm once she has reached full temp'. This makes initial driving very difficult especially as I have a troublesome gearbox. If I disconnect it, there appears to be no noticeable effect at all.

Got a mid morning call from my best mate, he had a moment on the M40 this morning going to work and despite been an ace driver could not stop the 180 spin into the barrier!!!!!!!!!!!! Good news he walked away unhurt, which is the most important, but his zed of 14 years ownership is looking less well, thank goodness for the barrier which stopped this been a very different outcome. Ok, so I'm looking at doing a oil swap. What size is the gearbox plug, I know its approx 1/2" but is that 13mm or 12mm? Dont want to buy a whole set of the proper plug tools just the right one

Wondered what others are doing to refurbish the targatops? Problems with mine are: Glass is going milky around the edges in some places - not sure how to fix. Little bit of corrosion on the metalwork - easily sortable. Plastic end caps need replacing on the ends of the metalwork - easy. Plastic trim around the three edges of the glass. Brand new replacement would be ideal - are these parts even available? I'd happily replace the targa with a solid carbon fibre version if such an item existed :)

  19. So after leaving circa 2007, for Belgium and Japan, and spending most of this time without my Z. I have decided, the snow is finally melting, the road-salt is gone, and I want to bring the Z back on the road this summer. The Z has been standing, but occasionally used in this time, and after firing her up recently there is nothing wrong, a local Z specialist changed what was necessary for Belgian MOT (pads/ and a water hose mainly) but there is nothing really wrong. On the RR she is just down a bit on power, suspecting safety boost, but there is a mix of old fuel in there.... I have given up the legislation fight of fitting Belgian plates, so I will stick with UK p…

  20. Its come to my attention over time thats parts for our cars are hard source and expensive. Availability of quality kit is poor from within the uk and oem parts are dropping off the availability list like flys. Being an entusiast club part of our responsibility is to ensure the marque is represented and preserved. A serious prerequiset to this is availability of parts. Most other cars have many pattern parts available, and aftermarket stuff, we simply dont. I do not wish to pick on anyone but compare our z part retailers to those in the us or oz, zcentre is tiny, its not even affilated with the owners club! Not to mrntion the price. Getting onto the twinz range, that canno…

The company that I entrusted to install the tyres on my new 19" Volks damaged the paint on the face of one of the rims, oops! They were very apologetic and have agreed to have the wheel refurbed no questions. However!... The wheels are painted in a colour that Volk do not publish the paint code for, nor will they supply paint, called formula silver. The refurb company have just been round and said it will be hard to match but he thinks he can get it close enough. If I wanted the other wheels doing to match it would cost £65+vat each for the other 3. The tyre company have said, if it doesn't match then they will pay to paint the other 3, but only based on the wheels …

  22. Hi, Can anyone tell me if the headlight wiring is part of the main engine loom (with the fuse box etc), or is it this one - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330894538614?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 There is also a harness that goes over the inner wing, but it doesn't seem to be that one as far as I can tell. I will at some point will need to replace the harness that goes from the pod to the headlights, either that or mess around with wiring. I was looking at the wiring on my shell, but couldn't work out where it was going, not without removing it. If anyone knows I'd be most grateful! :)
