OK, so went for a 25 mile round trip today. Halfway there the Zed starts to feel lumpy, when I took my foot off the accelerator, it felt like it was not fuelling. Then after a few hundred metres of this it just dies. Power off, engine off, no power steering etc. Stopped at side of road, well, the middle of a high street actually. Was decelerating at the time and going in a 20mph zone. Turbo timer cuts in, so I wait for 30s, then restart the car. No problems there, drive for another mile and again, it cut out. Repeated 7 more times until I got home. So, at home, thought I would do some simple diagnostics. Started car, on idle, I can hear nothing unusual. Revving it, aga…

  3. Started by JeffTT,

In the workshop today I had to remove a 3 year old injector due to leaking fuel, which is at least for a different reason than the usual failed unit. Now the trouble was this zed had 555 injectors and not wanting to break the injector when removing I was a little apprehensive as it was removed but it came out very easy as the rubber sealing ring was not holding it as tight as it should be. The seal is damaged and must of happened when it was fitted during an engine rebuild the owner had done previously, hard to understand how it had lasted 3 years but thats zeds for ya! After cleaing up fitting a new sealing ring and refitted all was well again and leak fre…

How long from a cold start would you expect your zed to take to reach a normal idle of say 750/800rpm???? Also, would you expect this to happen before she's up to full temp??

  9. Basically the catalytic converter warning light came on just for a few seconds whilst driving the motorway earlier. from a quick research I assume it could be a faulty o2 sensor? dumping unburnt fuel down the exhaust the light is off now and hasn't came back on but I have to assume it will come back eventually. question is if it were to come down to replacing the O2 sensors, how difficult is this job? also what else could cause the warning light to come on? when the light was on I did feel a minor difference in acceleration, but nothing major. Thanks Sascha

A zed came to the workshop last week presenting some odd running problems, the ConZult was showing reasonable settings but if left ticking over slowly get slower and stall, the pick up was just not right and unstable, on a hunch I removed the elderly looking HKS mushroom air filter and once the afm was seperated it was clear the foam filter had started to break up and the afm air flow was getting blocked by the foam bits, a new filter and a clean out and all was good again, worth checking if you have one of these kits fitted. 13. Ok guys, still a bit skint after buying my zed in Feb. Car is in red and in standard stock form with black leather trim and factory wheels. I don't really mind the standard rims tbh and replacing tyres will obvs be a more economical task. (The car had 350z alloys on at the garage that was selling it, which I wasn't too fussed on and negotiated a substantial discount if they were swapped back) I've been toying with giving the car/rims a new lease of life as a cheap 'pimp' by painting them a different colour to stock. I had in mind either a satin black, a darkish/gunmetal metallic or maybe even gold? Anybody thoughts/suggestions on this subject or any pics of simi…

Series 1 bumpers, mine have a dopple effect finish rather than a smooth finish on the lower part. Is this the same on all series 1 bumpers? The reason I ask is that I am looking to tidy up the front bumper (smooth it over etc) and don't wanna waste time trying to smooth the lower half if I can find one already like that.

Any thoughts on why the hicas light may come on after driving for a while? Ive changed the hicas ball joints, topped up the fluid, ensured the steering wheel is straight. Any other thoughts to try? Cheers

  20. Should I remove all the tweed and attach a vynal cover of some sort? should I find a series 2 velour, or wait and hope to be jammy and find one of those elusive alcantara sets? I quite like the leatherette look or the alacantara stuff, what have you guys used to get a good finish tahts fabric rather than vynal.

  21. Started by Maz,

Hi Mention earlier in a thread that I had a problem with high idle. on Sunday I cleaned the TPS connector, CAS connector, pulled the balance bar and sprayed some WD 40 into the AAV This morning on the way into work I noticed that the Turbos were not working, or at least the boost gauge needle was smack in the middle of the dial, exactly the same as when you pull the hose off the balance bar to do the "pass emission test" trick. Are the two related , high idle and now loss of boost,...is it time for a boost leak check ? any advice greatly appreciated Maz
