Zed in the workshop yesterday for a near side turbo swap (yipee!! ... groan) and a request to sort out the poor running and misfire, had a brief look today and the engine hardly ran and was not at all happy, a quick timing check revealed a cold timing setting of +45 btdc !!! So right hand cam belt cover removed and engine timed to tdc and well the pic says the rest.. The belt is around 4 years old and seems in good order but does seem really tight so expecting a failed adjuster allowing a skip of the belt but has since extended out too far??? , maybe a tight camshaft bearing, or foreign object in there, either way a strip down to reveal I guess. …

Engine oil leaks are a pain, both in mess and the cost of topping the missing oil up on a regular basis. However some leaks can be more of a worry than others, the front top of the engine is one area to be wary of, any leaks in this area are almost certainly from the cam end seals and will be covering the cambelt with hot oil every time you drive it. As luck would have it a zed in the workshop last week was in dire need of cam seals so took some pics. Here are some of the underside Look horrible and trust me flipping mucky to work on!! continue..............

So, I have decided to keep the troublesome Zed and still think the engine needs to be either rebuilt or swapped. I have found a potential replacement engine but need to understand what sort of cost we are talking about when replacing a blown engine with a replacement one. I would imagine there is quite a bit of labour involved with removing one engine and replacing it with another. Is this days and days of effort at a garage or is it fairly quick? Also, has any one any experience or knowledge of reputable people/garages who have the facilities and tools to do an engine swap in the South of England? How much do I need to budget to do this? Any help appreciated. G…

does this make any real difference when not chasing silly numbers ? I was just thinking that for the price of a couple of metres of alloy pipe and a day or two with the welder out etc i could improve the breathing of my car. Anyone here actually done it or is it all internet rumours ?

  8. Hi all I'm new to the club and I'm after my first zed! I've been offered one from word of mouth at £1800 which is a TT auto 88000 miles, no service history and is completely standard and its only about a 90min drive from where I am. However I've just seen another on the net that looks a lot smarter with better mileage and a bit more MOT and TAX and its a manual which I would defiantly prefer. Its right at the top end of my budget and its in Dorset, which is a bit of a drive from where I live. Is the latter the better sounding option?

While exploring my new zed I discovered my ecu has a mines sticker on it, iv done some research but can only seem to find vague bits of information so I'm a little curious to what the difference is compared to a normal ecu. I can assume the the map is different but just wondering if there is more to it than that. Thanks :)

Hello, I hope You understand what i write guys ;) . My clutch was working before i remove engine. After i put the engine back, I buy a brand nev slave clutch cylinder (old one was leaking) and istal it. Put new fluid into system, and trying to bleed it like in all this FAQ. My clutch pedal is soft, like no resistance at all, all the way. Slave cylinder dont move at all, even 1mm. Fluid is coming out from bleed valve on bottom and this one near driver wing. Why my clutch not working at all? Konrad

  13. hey so ive done the heater core bypass and after everything was finished i started the beast up and while it was idle i checked to make sure nothing was loose or leaking but i did hear a hissing sound. at first i thought it was the bypass so i double checked and tightened the o clamps and the noise is still there, its in that general area of the egr and i cant pin point it over the sound of the engine and the frigging fan!! sounds like a vacuum leak? or air escaping? or is it suppose to be like that>? not a clue to what it could be....... the egr has been bypassed so i dont know if it has anything to do with that or maybe ive broken something........ anyone have thi…

Today I decided with determination to do something to my car as its been neglected my touch! I jumped in and with my handy torch app i took a look at the drivers side foot floor and immediately noticed some browny residue on the carpet above the foot rest im sold that it was leaking from there and it makes sense where it is damp. never doubted you guys but just had something stuck in my head and i can get pretty unrestful if i dont understand where and why if i dont come to a conclusion (thanks for the help and advice btw).... anyway having seen that, it was enough motivation for me to do the bypass from behind the engine. i took both pipes off it wasnt tha…

Took mine out for a little run prior to mot later this week, when i got home i noticed very slight smoke coming out of the gap around bonnet, opened it up, where it has been sitting for so long (2 years) has a tiny leak from the cam cover at the back which has dripped onto the turbo manifold. Back to the thread, sorry i noticed how hot the engine was, checked all pipes top and bottom hoses, rad and temperature is as it should be. heater inside blows nice and warm on full temp, and instantly goes icey cold when turned down. So no air locks there. left it on tick over and after 15 mins, sub fan kicked in, a few seconds later it stopped. engine sounds great and very sm…

Hi Guys, * Basically I bought a ZX TT from somebody on here a while back - the one pictured below. * I have suffered a broken hard drive and lost all of the spec so I don't know any of the modifications !!*I'm not really completely clued up so it's not like I could just look in the car and work it out - and I am considering possibly selling it so I'd need the spec for that!! * I was just wondering if Sandy or anyone else on the forum could help me out if they have the listing saved by any chance etc The picture below is from the sale ad and is all I could find....Hoping somebody recognises it! http://s15.postimg.org/u6gyvusd7/ZX2.jpg Any help w…

Hi. Just watched this bloody weird film called A Scanner Darkly. Everything looks all cartoonified lol There was a blue zed right in the background. I think this maybe one of the films that nobody has noticed this as the zed is even cartoony. Anybody else seen this?

Hi My air con has always been spot on but today it will not get cold. I dont have the econ (or whatever it says) and tried messing about with the different temps etc. I cannot hear the aircon compressor kick in at all and revs dont change. Im guessing that the gas has run out, I did have a look in the glass view port thing in the engine bay and I cant see anything. I know the gas they originally use is now illegal? What are my options, dont fancy taking it to somewhere like kwick fit etc as im not confident they will know what they are doing or be honest. Where do you guys go or recommend?

Well Lee Dent did my engine last summer and fit a load of mods which as culminated in me getting 580BHP. I also visited him only last week before I went to Noz's dyno/remap and he gave my car a quick inspection up on the ramp, whilst with him he gave me cake, coffee, wax, stainless bolts, bug solution, etc, in fact the man cannot help himself pass on any great products he has found. Late in the day I also had a starting issue which as yet is very intermittent, a suck it and see kind of fault which could just be battery, so he let me borrow easy start, spanners, jump leads, etc, for any further weekend stranded issues I might of had. His black stealth Zed is…

Ok, so just got a shipment form Z1 Motorsport for my Jap 93 spec TT. Test fitted everything - as you do- and the sway bar bushes ('D' shaped ones with the spilt) are too big. On the box it says they are 26mm. looking on line there are 18mm for Jap and 24mm for UK/Europe spec. So just about to order 18mm bushes when I went and had a quick measure just to be sure. 21mm is the diameter of my sway bar!! Does any one know what's going on? I was content in knowing about the difference in sizes but now it has become clear that I haven’t a clue! Is it a TT vs. NA thing? Cheers Chris.
