Just wanted to express my thanks and gratitude to Vijay for spending a large part of this warm, sunny day helping me to run diagnostics and a boost leak test (we found some leaks)!! Such a friendly and helpful guy, much like all the other members I've had the pleasure of meeting in person over the years! Really is one of the added bonuses of owning a Zed I think! BAck on topic - THANKS VIJAY! Your help today was VERY much appreciated!! Vig

in the past few weeks I have been in two minds as to keeping or selling my TT, But have decided that I am not willing to give up on this zed! So...... This morning I went to go and see a couple of body shops to see about having my sills, wheel arches, boot lid (bird shit had ****ed the paint while I was away on holiday) and a few other blemishes sorted. After a little chat with the body shop owner, managed to get a very attractive price for all the work, so it should be off to them on Monday evening. Also decided that while its there, they can also paint and fit my impul side skirts that I've had sitting at work since I bought them ages ago for my old n/a. Once…

Hello everyone. Ok so I am now 2 hours away from meeting my first TT Z. I feel like a kid going on a first date! I have read everything I can over the years about these cars and whilst sitting on this train am procrastinating... How much for general driving use (not racing) can you expect to spend on maintenance per year? I fear I have had very forgiving n the past, lots of hondas and bmw etc, and have never paid more than a few hundred a year on maintenance. I drive sensibly, have a bit of fun occasionally but of course some cars will withstd more than others. Realistically and if the base car has been looked after, how deep should my pockets …

I took my car to Brian's house last weekend as he said he'd help me with a cambelt change and service on the car. As we dug a bit deeper into the engine he found a couple of problems like a water leak at the back of the engine and an oil leak on the cam pulley. So off came the upper and lower plenum. He suggested a water bypass while the plenum was off along with a couple of other jobs while the engine was in bits. I picked the car up yesterday and couldn't believe how well she drives. Great job mate! Also, he didn't charge me for doing this and gave me a load of spare parts & cups of tea. Great club spirit! Now I will definitely be able to get to JAE. Thanks again ma…

Ok problem is I got pair turbos that I want to put in to my car. But they got some oil inside. Engine is out more than for a month Turbos looks in good codition no smokes before car was running. Can some oil get in the turbos in the time after engine was removed or the seals is gone ?

  8. Hi im hoping to start my car tomorrow for the first time since the rebuild. Im excited but also a bit nervous as its make or brake time. My questions are. 1. What degree does the throttle position sensor need to be set at? 2. The same for the C.A.S unit? 3. What is stock oil pressure? If I get the car running what shall I do? I've had many different suggestions. I want to check for leaks etc before I have the car run in on the rollers. 1. Let the car idle up to engine temp then turn it off? 2. Dont let the car idle keep revving it on and off up to 3000 revs? 3. Rev it hard though the rev range? Thanks Dan

So a zed in the workshop this week was in for cambelt and other work including sorting the leaking exhaust sound. The zed had been treated to a couple if turbo`s prior to arriving at us, the owner had bravely removed the engine removed and refitted the turbo`s after refitted the engine did not fancy tackling the cambelt. So after the cambelt was done the exhaust sound led us to the near side turbo and a little look down there with the battery removed revealed a little mistake when the turbo was refittted. Was a little surprised to see that the tab bracket that should be under the nuts was actually between the flange of the exhaust manifold…

Hey people, we recently purchased a 99 spec front bumper and already have an Autobahn FMIC non of which are currently fitted to the car. We got looking at the bumper today as were wondering if the intercooler will be too big to fit behind it. Has anyone on here fitted an Autobahn FMIC behind a 99 spec front bumper? Thanks Andre :thumbup1:

Zed in the workshop yesterday for a near side turbo swap (yipee!! ... groan) and a request to sort out the poor running and misfire, had a brief look today and the engine hardly ran and was not at all happy, a quick timing check revealed a cold timing setting of +45 btdc !!! So right hand cam belt cover removed and engine timed to tdc and well the pic says the rest.. The belt is around 4 years old and seems in good order but does seem really tight so expecting a failed adjuster allowing a skip of the belt but has since extended out too far??? , maybe a tight camshaft bearing, or foreign object in there, either way a strip down to reveal I guess. …

Engine oil leaks are a pain, both in mess and the cost of topping the missing oil up on a regular basis. However some leaks can be more of a worry than others, the front top of the engine is one area to be wary of, any leaks in this area are almost certainly from the cam end seals and will be covering the cambelt with hot oil every time you drive it. As luck would have it a zed in the workshop last week was in dire need of cam seals so took some pics. Here are some of the underside Look horrible and trust me flipping mucky to work on!! continue..............

So, I have decided to keep the troublesome Zed and still think the engine needs to be either rebuilt or swapped. I have found a potential replacement engine but need to understand what sort of cost we are talking about when replacing a blown engine with a replacement one. I would imagine there is quite a bit of labour involved with removing one engine and replacing it with another. Is this days and days of effort at a garage or is it fairly quick? Also, has any one any experience or knowledge of reputable people/garages who have the facilities and tools to do an engine swap in the South of England? How much do I need to budget to do this? Any help appreciated. G…

does this make any real difference when not chasing silly numbers ? I was just thinking that for the price of a couple of metres of alloy pipe and a day or two with the welder out etc i could improve the breathing of my car. Anyone here actually done it or is it all internet rumours ?

  23. Hi all I'm new to the club and I'm after my first zed! I've been offered one from word of mouth at £1800 which is a TT auto 88000 miles, no service history and is completely standard and its only about a 90min drive from where I am. However I've just seen another on the net that looks a lot smarter with better mileage and a bit more MOT and TAX and its a manual which I would defiantly prefer. Its right at the top end of my budget and its in Dorset, which is a bit of a drive from where I live. Is the latter the better sounding option?
