General Discussions - 300ZX Related

Hi! Does anyone know what people use in their engine bays to make the steel bits stay shiny? e.g. balance tube, that's mild steel isn't it? Surely if its just polished it will rust. I was thinking of doing mine myself but am worried about them rusting. Are the ones that have been getting sold on here recently been chromed or coated in some way? I'm just looking for some bits to do on my z to pass the time with while I wait for parts to fix it... (If anyone remembers, some idiots tried to nick it a while ago, they robbed my house and took my keys but luckily couldn't nick it because I'd broken the ECU before hand, hehe, I'm just glad they didn't have a tow truc…

Just a thought have you cleaned your throtle bodies your symptom points to that you need some brake cleaner with the long nozzle & a tooth brush.I can do it for you if you like Jeff has showed me. Anybody replaced there front original discs recently and still got the old one lying around, mine are down past the minimun... I'll part with some cash for them and pay the pigeon to carry them... Angelus

I have a '90 TT. My oil pressure guage oftem seems to read low. So I am looking at replacing the sender unit. Now the unit on the car has a blue plastic part the loom plugs in. On the spare one I have, which is off a Jap import, it has a yellow end. Are there any differences in the two of them?? My scale reads in psi, Jap scales are in kg/cm2 are they not?? Does this make a difference? Many thanks in advance. Robert ------------------

Hi, I have got a Z tuned up by Kakimoto Racing in Japan (I have wondered if the name was some sort of Japanese joke on us Westerners), and the bloke who sold it to me didn't know what was done to it! I have had a good look around it, and it has these bits on it, Kakimoto racing exhaust (too loud for me) HKS Dump Valves, Central20 Racing Chip, HKS EVC control, Greddy Boost Gauge, Upgraded clutch, Air Intake, Turbo timer, Is there anyway I can tell if it has any further upgrades, without ripping the engine to bit? Hi, I have been hit up the Ass twice now in the Banger Z I have got, and have got the hump, specially with the last bird to have done it, who got out and started blaming me!! Anyway I remember somebody doing an article on bacofoiling the a brakelight and can anyone remember who did it. Also can I increase the wattage of the bulbs, without blowing any fuses? Cheers, Mark

Hi, Going to put the Z in a garage and pull it out for special days(and the Z!!), and I was thinking of getting another motor.Unfortunately it will have partial banger status because I am going to be knocking around London in it, and I mean knocking. I was looking for suggestions regarding alternative cars for about 2 grand, I would like something a little bit sporty, preferably 4 doors, and maybe a hatchback. I thought of the golf GTI 16v and maybe an old 5 series BMW, does anyone know of the equivalent forum for these cars? Anyway has anyone got any suggesstions? All the Best, Mark

One of my door mirrors won't retract unless I pull it, anybody know how to open the mirror casing to get at the mechanism ?

graham, came over this morning to fix it up for us. Tell ya what those old pipes were a right c**t to get off! The hose he bought is green though . Oh well. There was a split in the small line that goes from the bottom of the valve thingy back left (from front). Replaced all lines. It was much easier to start after that and no more smell. The line under the throttle linkage is a right little bastard to get at. Will have to do that one when it has the timing belt done.

Just removed both front discs and there down to 24mm which the manual says is the minimum. Anybody skimmed thier's down to that size or should I put them in the bin and get another pair..... Cheer's Angelus angels@bawn.fsworld.co.uk

ive just been looking at your rides and noticed the gap on your new nose cone(the gap near the wheels)how did u sort this out as i have the same front and when i put the bumper on it didnt fit right and i also have a gap.thanks jay

Had an RPS clutch put on my Zed about a year and a half ago. Did this because the stock clutch could not handle the upgrades I have on the car. The clutch has not performed at best over that time and seems to be getting worse. It seems now to be slipping. I am very pissed off as this RPS clutch was not cheap. I need to now which is the best clutch to go for and how much it would be. Also would it be advisable to put a new flywheel on. Would a stock flywheel be ok. I would be greatful for any advice as I am going to get one this week. Cheerz Simon H

Hi folks, I'm trying to find out the part number for a splash guard that screws up underneath the front of the car (the front one that connects to the front spoiler) but I'm not sure where to start looking. Any ideas? Thanks, -Stu

Had a nasty shock the other day when I saw a few spots of oil on the drive! Closer inspection revield a smothered uderside! After much cleaning and serching revieled a corroded oil pipe. The pipe comes from the oil cooler at the front of the car. you have to trace the rubber pipes from the top of the cooler down to where the hard pipe joins. Mine had corroded right on the bend and was weeping oil. To make matters worse it must be the most awkward thing to change on the car as there in no room to get to it( if you have a look you will see what I meen!) I suggest that you spend half an hour or so checking thi out! ------------------

hi, i'm looking to purchase a 300zx and would like it if anyone could let me know if there is anything i should be looking out for as i have never owned one before. the car is a UK spec 1991 300ZX TT, man, 55K miles, 17"s, cruise, leather, cd, a/c, e/w, e/m, FSH & hpi, Private plates also. what sort of price should i be looking at?? thanks in advance Martyn
