Brake upgrade advise

Hiya Guys,

I am thinking of upgrading the stock brakes in my 1991 NA Jap import, the breaking is a bit iffy and it pulls to one side on hard breaking. I am thinking about going for a set of 3Gs 20 slotted rotors front and rear and getting some steel brake lines.

What pads should I get and when I change the brake fluid, which should I use as the manual says use only DOT 3.

Many thanks,

Kind RegardZ,

Amer.

The 3g brakes are very good, well worth it as they are brembo castings.

Pads go for greenstuff, they are good for little brake dust ect and work well.

Regarding fluid go up to 5.1 and get steel braided hoses.

Hang on a min!

Not 100% sure, only about 98% this time but I think the N/A Z32 only run 22mm front rotors, not 30mm.

One of our guys got a set of calipers off an N/A zed, he was most confused when he tried to get them over his nice new big 30mm discs.

Check it out before it gets messy.

Jezz.

Good point there.

How sad am i, lol i never knew they had a difference.

I'd say get bigger calipers, or get yours shimmed. 8mm might be a tad too far to shim though, not really sure.

Don't really think you are supposed to shim calipers at all.

I am having those exact Disks fitted tomorrow, along with replacement calipers frown.gif

Question from a brake novice,

What are Brembo brakes?

Are they a larger diameter than the usual Z brakes?

Regards,

Mark

Thanks for the replies,

Another question,

What makes them better than the stock discs though, are they a larger diameter, I can partially understand the theory of cross drilling and slotting? Does it make that much difference for normal road driving though?

Slightly Puzzled,

Mark

Well if your going to replace the stock items, you might as well upgrade them. I have the big Brembo kit of the skyline and its amazing how much better and more enjoyable it makes your driving experience.

The Brembo kit 3g do are better discs i would imagine than the stock ones although the same size. And they are cheaper than getting them from Nissan i think.

...if you are going to fit green stuff pads buy them first. You might find the amount of improvement saves you the bother of buying new disks etc. On my na they are teriffic compared to the nissan pads. Na disks are 25 mm wide and tt are 30mm wide so tt disks won't fit into na calipers. Try Terry at JRT Automotive for good prices - 01494 792211.

...good luck
