door mirror

One of my door mirrors won't retract unless I pull it, anybody know how to open the mirror casing to get at the mechanism ?

The trick is to pop the mirror out with a flatblade screwdriver. Once you've done that then all the screwheads can be seen.

Hi Dave, this is a common prob on the imports and is due to partially seized motors I posted a tip on repairing this but cannot find it on the search?

So briefly firstly you MUST remove the screw underneath the mirror (little hole) and that allows the glass to be removed, then there are about 5 ( I think) screws that hold the two plastic halves in place.Once this are off locate the motor and reove the fixings and carefully pull away from the gearing, now run the motor (via the fold back switch for a minute or so, helping it if required, it will eveNtually pick up speed and smoke a little as it burns off the crap on the commutator.Try this in reverse also, now refit and test (without putting covers back on) if ok great if not do it again...works every time.

Hope that helps Jeff TT
