  1. Put the kettle on someone.
  2. Carp fishing..........thats the daddy, once you start......your hooked......ermn, well the carp is hopefully. Fantastic sport, pastime, hobby, whatever, its exhilarating.
  3. Just blown away.......................amazing and so spontaneous.
  4. You did state he was driving a Beetle, nuf said.
  5. Doesn't the Nissan manual give information on oil change routines / mileages. As said the diff seems to be quite self sufficient but the gearbox would certainly benefit from a refresh, especially an automatic which should include the internal filter being cleaned.
  6. This sounds like a combination of problems and the earth could be part of it. The system is split between NS and OS so obviously checking fuses and wiring would be adviseable. A continuity check would also be recommended between the switch and the bulb holder which I know is not an easy job because of the lack of room around the back of the headlamps.
  7. As stated earlier Dan, Nissan do not make belts, and Gates is a reknown manufacturer of quality belts, their reputation is of worldwide quality, they do not only manufacture belts but a host of other items mainly dealing with hydraulics, i.e. seals, valves, solenoids, pumps etc., I have been familiar with their products for over 20 years in the Aerospace, Military, Naval and manufacturing engineering, and they always provide quality alternatives to OEM parts, in fact a lot of OEM parts are of Gates manufacture.
  8. The amount of difference between the markers on the belt would not lead to the timing being out. The 'step' difference on the sprockets is quite large and you would have to be a plank to get it wrong. Also to my knowledge Nissan do not make their own timing belts although they are stamped Nissan. I would not be surprised if Gates were not the actual manufacturer. Car makers cannot possibly make every item fitted to their vehicles because of the specialist techniques and testing, which would be costly, i.e., most manufacturers, if not all get their headlights made by existing companies in this field who spend possibly millions developing lighting technology. That said, if changing your belts, any belt that is, go for a known make and not an Ebay cheapy from Taiwan.
  9. If it is a complete kit including the flywheel then it will fit but remember to buy an NA clutch, I think they are slightly smaller.
  10. You only get condensation through damp, and where does damp come from ?????
  11. New turbos should spin freely, I would be inclined to speak to the supplier then if something goes wrong after you have fitted it, you are in the clear.
  12. Blimey lads, whats wrong with the waiting for the engine to warm up a bit, and let the oil get round. get out of bed 10 minutes earlier I say.
  13. It must be a SWB, on a 2+2 that would look sh1te.
  14. More like a water leak from somewhere Murty, targa tops, heater, aircon or the deadly floor corrosion. Check your carpets for damp especially around the transmissiom tunnel which indicates the heater mattrix is leaking. Ugh.
  15. Name and shame Jeff, definitely one to be avoided.
  16. There are several points here to check, firstly make sure the earth strap to the engine is intact and tight, otherwise the starter will be lazy or perhaps not work at all. Secondly make sure the starter solenoid is in good nick along with the starter. No matter how good the battery is if the starter and solenoid are mullered, it will not turn the engine over. It also sounds as though your starter ring on the flywheel or the dog on the starter is worn. Under these current freezing conditions, everything needs to be top notch.
  17. Firstly with regard to engine oil change, I think the manufacturer recommends evry 10K miles but as these cars tends to be driven sportilly, I change my oil & filter every 3000 miles. This of course is not necessary, but that is my criteria. As for looking at the oil and making a decision on whether the engine requires rebuilding is quite a difficult question as really you would only see a noticeable change if the headgaskets leaked. Normally these engines start smoking, blowing the dipstick out, or misfiring when the the engine is tired and worn. Obviously then your first step is a compression test, both dry and wet which will give you an indication of the the engines condition. Also the colour of the exhaust smoke is a good indicator of oil being burnt, turbos being worn and headgaskets leaking. Nothing on these cars is straightforward and all problems need to be approached methodically.
  18. Blimey Lexx that is a nice 350Z, and tastey body and wheel mods too. The 300 is a great car and very easily modded, but can be a bit of a handfull in the handling department. Take your time looking when you are ready and remember you are then in the realms of a classic car, and all the problems that accompany them. It can end up being a grin or a grief so good luck when the time comes.
  19. I have to say chaps, that looks awful, a bit like the Honda electric car that they made for a couple of years. It's neither a coupe or a sports estate and makes the vehicle look like a brick. I think it falls into the same category as the tailgate tubs that some people fit, it is down to personal choice.
  20. Yeah, so what's yer point  lucky beggar.
  21. Bargepole and 'don't touch' are the words that spring to mind regarding the 3000GTO. They are mega barstewards to work on (worse than the Zed) and the parts, if you can get them are pricey, even secondhand. Also the same as the Zed, most garages just shake their heads when you pull up in one. Lexus and Fiesta sound a great choice to me, but they are at both ends of the quality range ? For simplicity and ease / cost of parts, it's got to be the Ford, and thus leaving more money to keep the Zed on the road.
  22. Blimey Craig, are you into rustling or is this your evenings entertainment.
  23. It was back in June Murty but I suppose it gets yer tally up.
  24. You missing Si are you ? I'm not surprised, but since he received a ban for something very minor he now goes elsewhere, who appreciates his banter. This forum has turned into a club, very cosy too.
  25. I can't believe the seats, I have seen cars with lower mileage and have the bolster on the drivers seat worn. I bought an import last year in the same colour but lower mileage and the seat was worn but also the inner cills were corroded. Sadly photgraphs do tend to make everything look OK.
