why has my dipstick popped out?
/\/\/\/\/\ Zoggs absolutely right, you have piston ring failure and the gasses are pressurising the crank case and thus pops out the dipstick. A compression test will comfirn low readings on the piston(s) concerned, usually the rear two cylinders as these are prone to overheating which causes the rings to sieze in the piston groove. Start saving your money.

Rolling Road List! 26th September @ Circuit Motors, Castle Combe
Blimey Murty, think of all that petrol you have saved since its been up north having a clutch fitted. By the way what clutch did you go for.?

Its been a rough ride for you Marcus which normally equates to an expensive ride, which is sad. I hate it when people get ripped off and I get the feeling you have been, but thats not for me to rekindle. Whats next then ?

Rolling Road List! 26th September @ Circuit Motors, Castle Combe
Its not at the race course Dave, but a garage in the village of Castle Combe. You have probably driven past it a couple of times on the way to the circuit, it aint nothing to look at from the road.

Help!
This sounds either like MAF or timing, get both checked out.

Garages/engine builders capable of building a high spec 300zx.
He is a very modest guy Joel, and tends to wait for people to ask for his services. The words being banded about here like 'big power' etc., means nothing if you don't also have a 'big wallet'. I think Jaffa needs to specify what power he is talking about, i.e., 500, 600, ......800 or even a 1000 bhp, if of course that is possible. Personally I think he would probably be better off importing a car direct from Japan already modded, if he could find one. And of course it is not just the engine that will need mods either so the costs will be even greater.

Sill repaires
Thats scarey. The notion is that Imports are in better nick for their age than UK models, BUT.........there are exceptions. Surely that has to do with the targa drain pipes going into the sill and not subsequently draining away due to blocked sill drain vents. Must check my drain vents again tonight.Phew.

Too FEW miles??

What tyres are you running
I have 285x35x18 Dunlop SP's on the back of mine and they are soft compound, which is not bad in the wet and do not squeel if you rip off quickly.........I don't know if thats good or bad. They leave the traditional 11's on the road tho' but they are not wearing badly. The best tyres I have had on a Zed were Michagonis, I think thats how it spelt and they were fitted on 19 inch rims (265x30's) and they stuck like glue, wet or dry but very harsh ride obviously partly due to being 19's and 30 profile.

Cars going on the dyno, what should I expect?
Are you running stock turbos and injectors and what boost pressure are you going up to on the rollers.?

international eBay...
I think Ebay is OK personally, its some of the people that use for what may be termed dodgey practises. I ordered a so called HID conversion kit on American Ebay and it turned out to be just the bulbs plus wiring. I complained and received a telephone call from Paypal who after a brief discussion put the money back into my account (item cost and postage), the very next day. That to me is good service. I think Ebay are trying to rid themselves of the shabby image which has evolved over the initial years of trading and thus the new method of money transfer. If you were buying something on Ebay would you not want similar controls in place to ensure the goods you had paid for were up to scratch !

PCV Valves
Not a nice job, well done you.

price guide.
These cars are not in an auction anyway, the price you see is the price you pay unless you haggle them down, which I am sure would be in a deal.

Electric fan
/\ /\ /\ Spot on Dave, Jimmer has recently converted a couple of cars back to the viscous fan because they were overheating with the electric fan conversions. I think you would require a twin Kenlowe setup to provide the required amount of cooling which is going to cost about £350 ish.

Nice 99 spec in japan
You would have thought by 99 they would have improved the style of the standard alloy wheels, they really let it down.

A very interesting site
It was more for the engine and tuning basic info of what you can or cannot achieve with turbo and non turbo, in relation to chips. By the way you missed a few things out like; fitting squidgey blow off valves, wheel spacers, strapping aluminium plates to your brake pedals, Chipping your ECU and keeping standard brakes fitting Irish plates

A very interesting site
I am not sure that this is the best place for this especially as it is not strictly Zed related, but it will be of interest to Zed owners who have little or no knowledge of car mechanicals and workings. This site really explains very simply about engines and tuning, it explains what can be done and what cannot be done, the latter could save you a lot of money. See what you think, the guy is obviously very knowledgeable. Apologies if this has been posted before. http://www.tuning.wanadoo.co.uk/index.htm

2 new problems today...
I reckon the erratic running might be the TPS connector, wriggle around when running to see if the revs vary, clean it up anyway it can only improve the contact there. The filler tube has an 'O' ring where it enters the expansion tank, either this is missing or just shrunk with age. It does not usually leak through here though unless it is over full. If the car was overheating slightly, this could cause both of your problems. Make sure your electric fan is functioning ( with the engine running remove the connector on the lefthand sensor fitted in the aluminium pipe coming out of the front of the engine, the fan should immediately start)

99 front indicators
You can get the original smoked lights from MJP, cheap as chips as well. Ring him for a price.

Topless...
Did your Zed have standard have standard wheels Si ?

Topless...
That looks good, keep it up. I think a clean white car really looks impressive, mine is black and looks bad after about an hour.
