  1. That's why I prefer Jap imports.
  2. Very interesting this. I will be changing my turbos in the next few months. No idea what to go for yet but reading this is giving me food for thought.
  3. They've worked on Zeds before, the mechanic had just finishing rebuilding a zed block and putting that back into that car when i got in contact. Have also used them on other performance cars and always been good, so if people reckon the price is ok then that's good. Thanks.
  4. So, car is off the road for the winter. When it comes out the garage in the spring it will need the timing belt changed and I'm also getting the turbos done, possibly upgraded to a higher spec. Looking like costing me around 2k from the garages up here. Is that a reasonable sort of price?
  5. A ripe old age he lived to, he's up in the stars now. RIP, God Bless Him.
  6. Standard used turbos mate? My car was an auto but converted to manual, not sure if that makes a difference?
  7. Cheers for the oil info, after reading that I remember what the different bits in the ratings mean, hadn't thought about it in years. Time to start hunting for a pair of turbos then, and try and find a garage that won't rape me to fit lol.
  8. The tubs are still in my thinking, but no harm in trying the cheap option, I don't really want to think on the cost of getting the turbos done, although timing belt due soon so would make that job easier. 76k mate. The only other change on the car which I just remembered was at the same time as the decats got fitted the car was serviced. I've always used 10w/40 semi synthetic, the garage recommended a 10w/60 full synthetic, but I would think thicker oil would be less likely to leak?
  9. Since my car was de-catted in the summer it seemed a little smokey. Doesn't smoke on idle, or when accelerating off boost, or on decelerating, only when under full boost...keeps smoking for as loong as you hold the foot down, disappears soon as you lift off. I'm sure I can also smell oil when this happens, but not sure if I'm imagining that. When car was de-catted they said the turbos had almost no play and seemed in good order. First stop PCV valves?
  10. The turbo rebuild game has a poor reputation, and warranties are generally crap, that's cos turbos are actually much harder to rebuild properly than people realise. Get it done right mate, just my view.
  11. If one is on the way out, then the other has been treated exactly the same, so can't be far away.
  12. How old is the battery?
  13. Might be a guy on the forums called Sandy that's selling this, he lives in Wishaw and breaks Zeds, not sure though. Could be a risk taking the car on so I'd try and pay as little as possible.
  14. Thanks mate but what happened before is not the issue now, that radiator is gubbed, I am just trying to source a new one.
  15. So there are no aftermarket radiators that are oem fitment and require no mods?
  16. Don't have pics lads, was just informed this when I put the car in to get a coolant leak traced. Agree it's been fitted poorly, that's what the garage said, but not much comeback 3 years later and by a previous owner. So any advice on a nice oem fitment aftermarket rad?
  17. According to the service history my car had a new radiator fitted 3 years and 9k miles ago when the auto to manual conversion was completed. Unfortunately the viscous fan casing has been rubbing on the fins and has now holed the radiator, the fins of the radiator actually protrued past the radiator frame thus allowing this to occur. I'm looking to get an aftermarket radiator that has the fins recessed so this won't happen again but also a radiator that will just slot straight in place with no modifications to anything else It such a radiator available?
  18. All the leaks I've seen fuel wise were in the crappy little hoses in the engine bay. Used to but the Smithy kit to sort it, but not sure who does a kit now.
  19. Well done mate, lots of hard work getting done there.
  20. Just remove the plug on the fuel pump relay in the drivers footwell.
  21. Maybe yours smokes worse than mine lol.
  22. My car does that after getting decats, not one bit of play in the shafts or anything, just some smoke from drivers side, just a slight seal leak, don't worry about it.
  23. I would base the turbos on how highly you are going with the bhp plans. Turbo reliability is down to oil changing, use and how well built they are. Any new Garrett turbos should be fine for a long time mate.
  24. 1989 Vauxhall Nova 1.2 had this wee banger for a year. 1992 Renault Clio 1.4 RT had this for around 2 years. 1992 Renault 21 2.0 Turbo this one for around 2 years, first experience of turbo power. 1990 Renault 21 2.0 4x4 Turbo only 4 weeks for this, bought as a project but sold on at no loss to someone with the right knowledge. 1989 Renault 21 2.0 Turbo yet another 21T, was highly tuned with a Garrett T4, mega power but lots of lag. 1992 Nissan 300ZX SWB TT first 300, what a beast, loved and still miss this car, K841MSB where are you!!!??? 1993 Ford Escort 1.8D estate, trying to save some cash! 2003 Golf GT TDI 150 frugal fun. 1999 BMW M3 EVO lovely car that sadly killed itself by fire after just 6 weeks. 2001 Citroen C5 2.0HDi back to cheap diesel power, comfiest car I've ever owned, great hydraulic suspension. 1992 Renault 21 Turbo once again another 21, spent a fortune on getting this car right, and enjoyed the challenge. 1993 Nissan 300ZX LWB TT currrent car, and is immaculate, don't drive it enough due to the crappy weather. 2003 MG ZS TD current daily driver, cheap to run but still good fun, actually handles very well.
