New Lambo.....
Something I have realised with new fast cars, a lot of their performance comes from dsg style gearboxes. I watched a Chris Harris on cars I think it was the new 4 series bmw. It had no more than 400bhp, it was less than my car, but had a 0-100mph of about 10 seconds. Thats because it has a 7 speed instant auto box. If I am in 4th at 100mph thats 3 gear changes at least a second on each one. I feel a bit cheated, my dads 2.0l diesel passat estate is pretty quick because it has a supernatural gearbox that keeps it at it's 140bhp all the time you have your foot down. Couple that to a proper performance car and the rate you will go down the road will be disorientating, but is it better???

Who can do this then?
There are quite a few threads about this, it changes your final drive to make all the gears a bit shorter. This makes the car accelerate harder but depending on your tune more wheelspinny and possibly too quick through the gears to boost properly. And it doesnt have hicas.

TT v NA
Its strange you dont see many tuned up NA cars. They werent that far off the tt in power arent they 240bhp? And a bit lighter? I bet a swb slick manual NA with some tuning would be wicked!

Hi, new to the 300 scene
I bought an average one running poorly, it is now brilliant, it did not take much to sort out, one trip to zedworld and one trip to Noz, £3000 for the car plus £2000 of maintanance got it up to as good as new then on further. My turbos are the smallest you can get and are as strong as an ox after 65000miles, now making 430hp at the engine. When you start pushing the car it feels really comfortable doing it, not like you are doing it any harm. The only downside is that it is so planted and stable, that it is easy to go fast and if you want it to move around you have to really use some throttle or push really hard. For many I am sure that is not a drawback. Good luck man!

Godspeed stuff
Phutumsh has a pair of godspeeds getting him his 500 or so hp. You could get a pair and if his go pop you have 6 months warning to sell yours. (joke)

The 3000GT :)
You've done well there mate. Worry free winter motoring

never been so fu#@$ing angry!!!!
Mate I am hundreds of miles away and probably can't help in any way. But if I can I will and you have my thoughts and best wishes. That is a totally **** hand you have been dealt. Eventually things will come round and you will look back at this time as something that made you better able to cope with future difficulties, and a stronger person. Life gives the test first and the lesson afterwards.

I am now a rally Co-Driver :-)
Cheers guys, there is a lot of stuff going on all at once. But things to do before the first race in April are: 1) Fix the car 2) Get our media sorted, Facebook, website, YouTube channel, twitter feed 3) With that start looking for sponsors 4) Practice and get Audrey up to pace For my peace of mind I would like to know what happened with that last clutch to be fairly happy that it wont just happen again. Has anyone seen anything like that before. It cracked the gearbox housing and severed a pipe and knacked the radiator. another picture of the friction plate [/img]

I am now a rally Co-Driver :-)
Damage to the flywheel above. And below :-) I really hope it is what I think it is. ( I would appreciate any advice on how to drive a LSD FWD car. I have learned how to left foot brake properly, over the throttle to bring the tail round a bit like a more gradual handbrake turn at speed. Hyundai coupe 2.0 lol, knackered front discs now) Audrey would like some coaching in the art of driving like a teenager and I am only too happy to help.

I am now a rally Co-Driver :-)
Where to start, Well since getting to Lossie I found out that there was an RAF Rally team based out of here and Kinloss that needed a Co-Driver. So I got in touch and have got the job. My non race National B license is on the way, as is all my racewear. The team is small, just Audrey the driver who owns the car and 2.5 engineers. I am really excited and the team was on the edge of chucking in the towel until I got in touch and now its go-go-go. Last season in June they had a clutch failure 5 mins into a stage and that was them done for 2013. Audrey had been going to events and having to find a volunteer Nav, there was just no consistency. But now the 4 of us have been together and had a chat and a plan and we are in it together for 2 years. Audrey and I are considering swapping roles next year and I would buy the car off her and drive. The car. It is a Nova! It is a 1400 Nova but, it's fairly well kitted out. I had a good poke around it the other day and found amongst other things, 1.4 nova engine with twin carbs that look pretty good bits of kit. A fairly well flowed 4-2-1 exhaust system. A LSD! Reportedly the engine has "fancy pistons" shot peened and ballanced stock crank and rods. Kent 063 race cams. Discs all round with twin master cylinders and a hydraulic handbrake. Look to be uprated ARBs. Gaz coilovers on the front. Stripped back to metal with a weld in roll cage and strut bracing. 18 part worn toyo R888s. racing fuel cell. Intercom. Fire extinguishers and isolator race stuff. Rally trip computer. Mudflaps... So quite a neat little thing but... The cluch didn't just fail, it did this... Now the team bought a new 4 puck and were just going to fit it along with a new gearbox but I had a good look round and saw some damage to the flywheel (pics to follow) we got it skimmed on station but I reckon it will need ballancing too. the second isue is why on earth did it fail. I tried asking on Performance Nova Group but as a new kid with 18 posts I am trying not to be a pain. They have been quite helpful. I'll put some more pics up...

engine prob help !!!
I suppose that however unlikely a lot of things could cause it, because it works by listening for the pinking. So if you hit your exhaust with a spanner and it was the same sort of frequency of 'ping' that it listens for then it could do it. Perhaps the code 34 (that I had) is "Knock sensor has died" rather than "Oh shit I heard knock".
-
engine prob help !!!
Bit beyond my zed knowledge but I thought, knock sensor operation shows a persistent code (34???) but it could be a slightly A-typical knock sensor thing. The knock sensor will put the car in safety boost if: 1) It hears knock below about 3500rpm and sends a signal to the ECU for the remainder of the drive to be in safety boost. 2 It stops working and the ECU does not hear some sort of "all is well" signal and so it fails safe and goes into safety boost. My bypass simulates that "everything is ok" signal for the ECU to stop it failing safe.

engine prob help !!!
Reading the op again it does sound like a pipe popping off. I find it hard to pinpoint where sounds come from sometimes. But if a pipe had popped off, it would run like a pig. I would expect a hiss or a woosh as it leaks. My Capri once popped and lost boost in a really weird way. It split the boost pipe going into the engine about an inch down the side between the jubilee clips. This was like a self healing wound that was almost invisible and didn't splay open till about 4 psi of boost then it opened like an eye and totally lost boost. Was a total sod to find.

engine prob help !!!
Yes, mine showed a code. It was also intermittent for a bit and would leave safety mode if you cycled the ignition. Until it stopped working entirely then it stayed in safety boost.

300ZX Won't REV past 5000 RPM
Draxan had an issue with high rpm cut out and it turned out his oil was too thick and meant the valves couldn't move quickly enough. Just a thought.
-
what do you think?? Style Police?
Just thought I'd be supportive, go against the grain. Bright leds would look naff, it is possible that a bit of a tron thing done well would play to the car's out of this world look.
-
what do you think?? Style Police?
There is something in there kev but not with that product. It looks quite big for when it's off. Those real life tron bikes look pretty cool. Perhaps that would work. I think you would need to continue the theme elsewhere on the car but it would be a fine line to get right. Perhaps classy swooshes on the side.

Have a look at this! Drool!
Beautiful, I miss my capri, the fun was the same but the speeds were lower. Is that an x pack tiger on the parcel shelf :-) Thanks for sharing Gary :-), I may yet own another 2.8i

I would be happy to see a likeness done in crayon of that X-pack Capri

I'm not used to this......
If it is fuel pump related, there is a fuel pump control unit underneath where your left elbow would be, if you were sat in the back left seat. I had a connector burn out in there, and my car had cut out twice briefly in the days before it properly cut out. As the connection faltered. If you cut the fuel pump, the car will idle with fuel from the lines for about 12 seconds. So if it was a failing connection it would be able to handle a short cut out of the pump.
