  1. ...thanks guys - a friend who races beemer's said he uses a household cleaner like Cillet BANG, or Mr Muscle to break down the oily gunk first - then a power washer (not set to high)! No really!
  2. YEP Chris - all done on both cars - must admit they are sounding better (or it could be my imagination) Also discovered that someone had used 8mm vacuum tube instead of 6mm in three places/connections - so once I had changed that out things improved somewhat as well - nightmare!! Andy
  3. Hi, I would use sikaflex (SPELLING??) and a rivet gun for sure... ;) Andy GP
  4. Thanx Andy & Co - so I should see a marked improvement when I EVENTUALLY get her back on the road - cool! Best regards. Andy GP
  5. ...looking at my rad up close - the lower third (almost) is clogged with road dirt and other *rap! Is it possible to recover from this or - just buy a new one - duh! I assume this has some effect on it's ability to do it's job  Cheers. Andy GP ;)
  6. Can anyone confirm that a separated carbon canister equates to a vacuum leak?? A
  7. Hmmm - interesting - my other jap 300ZX also has the carbon cannister in two pieces!!!!!! This results in the cannister being 'OPEN', and I am not sure what the effect is on performance, or if it constitutes a vacuum leak as such (probably) - but I would urge folks to check theirs (probably from the inside of the passenger side wheel arch is the easiest way) next time they have their front passenger side wheel off!! SO THATS TWO CC REMOVAL/BYPASSES I HAVE DONE TODAY - IT'S ALL GOOD! Andy GP
  8. I discovered that my Carbon Canister (located behind the passenger side intercooler) is/has been (for god knows how long) - in two pieces! Basically the base has parted company with the body! Having had some idle/cold start issues that I pretty much cured with IAA unit overhaul/cleaning - I have still been slightly aware that my car [feels/sounds like] is not what it was 'BUT' - because it has not been on the road for a while, and has a blowing exhaust I can't be sure - it's one of those 'need to drive it hard - can't drive it' scenario's! Anyway the question was - would/could the Carbon Cannister being in two pieces be construed as a vacuum leak - and therefore have similar effects on performance, clod start, economy etc? Cheers ;) Andy GP
  9. Clearly with toooooo much time on my hands today - I have noticed that the bonnet bulge on Luke's demo car is NOT central!!! or http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o307/andygp123/LukesZed.jpg Do you agree??? :p
  10. Hi, Been there - done that - assuming you have unfastened the other end first - you can then twist the rod so that the bolt can be squeezed out. Hope that helps matey! Andy GP :)
  11. http://www.zcentre.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?cPath=21_24_55&products_id=73 "Fibre glass sugar scooped headlights. Supplied with hella main beams, dipped beams and side lights. The nissan OEM dipped beams light output are rubbish. With these Z Centre headlights the dipped beams are far superior and are available for right hand drive and left hand drive 300zx's. Easy to fit but require painting. Do not require Original nissan rubbers. Sold as pair."
  12. Vijay, Their not designed to be used with the original rubber seals - that was just an early mock-up on one of Luke's ZCentre's show cars I believe he told me! It is not possible to fit using the rubbers from the originals - I believe it states this in the sales blurb on the site. Cheers AndyGP
  13. Ryan - if you talking about the standard oil pressure gauge in the pod - You can't rely on it - it is notoriously bad and irregular. You could try cleaning the contacts on the oil pressure sender to start but... ...Or (REGULARLY) replace the OEM oil sender unit (MJP will supply) - I think it's around eighty squids - or fit a good quality after market oil pressure gauge via a sandwich plate or similar. I fitted a sandwich plate under the oil filter during an oil change and that allowed me to fit pretty much any oil pressure and oil temp sender/gauge combination I wanted so... Hope that helps. Just based on my experience - I am not a subject expert  Andy :)
  14. Angel eyes looking good here... http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o307/andygp123/KIF_0032.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o307/andygp123/KIF_0034.jpg
  15. A couple of pics... Getting some idea of how it will look now.. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o307/andygp123/KIF_0045.jpg And the issue was... http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o307/andygp123/KIF_0006.jpg This is where I was creating the correct profile for the bumper extensions & prior to the glass/filler being applied. Had to do it this way because the work will overflow from the bumper section on to the wing section - so I did all the bodywork as if the wing/bumper were one piece - then created/cut the two as required. The bumper is now off for completion. Cheeers
  16. Hi Vijay - how's things going? It's the ZCentre twin fiberglass headlamp 'upgrade' - I can't live with the 2cm gap that the standard install would leave between the bottom of the new headlamp units and the Stillen/Zenon front bumper. Luke did provide a couple of additional stick-on 'extensions' for the headlamp (when I complained) - but I prefer to mod the bumper for a better look with regards all of the shut-lines. In my opinion they (the headlights) should be provided with a lot more meat on the lower edge so their is scope to blend them in to fit in any scenario. I think Luke is on the case - not sure! - Luke??? I know it's an emotional subject (headlight change from standard look), and that they can now effectively be upgraded to function in the dark with HID etc. But I wanted to upgrade the look of my car and the twin headlight conversion does it for me - I know it's not everyones idea of a good upgrade! They have also allowed me to fit full 'angel eyes' and I have to say they look fab! Next issue is with the Stillen/Zenon style bumper - I think I may remove/blend the sidelight/indicators out and use porche or mazda side repeaters instead - just leaving the two fog's as they are. The front will look a little busy otherwise I feel! Are you considering same Vijay? :smash: Andy
  17. OK - will def do the CC removal - thanks guys :) Is there ever a need to remove/flush/clean the IC's? Andy
  18. Thats the black container behind the passenger side intercooler right? What do I do with the piping - just blank it off or leave them venting? Cheers. :)
  19. Any suggestions? Bumper is off and car is SORN for the winter so now so I have plenty of time to complete any little jobs I should whilst I have this level of access. I am really just talking pipes/hose replacements here but I am open to suggestions of a more expensive nature :wack: I have had the full 60K service, and have changed/upgraded the lower rad pipes already. Bumper is off so that it can be modified to make the twin headlamps upgrade fit correctly, and to fit a splitter/change indicator setup and grill mesh etc. AndyGP
  20. .... looked like you were being 'entertained' by a couple of cops - hope all is well
  21. OK - removed the steering wheel shroud and just manually touched/forced up the little solenoid lever and from then on it all works as advertised!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's just my Zed's way of saying - OI! Drive Me, dont leave me to rot in the garage pleeeeeze or else!!!! Cheers for your help. :hyper: AndyGP
  22. ..Do you think - which one - which bank of fuses? A
  23. Hi, Just finished cleaning/repairing/replacing/re-fitting the AII/Air Reg etc, and now she starts like new and runs like Paula Radcliffe however... Now I can't get my keys outta my ignition as that little black button solenoid thingy is not doing it's stuff!!! Could I have disturbed something whilst in the general area of the engine bay that would cause this to happen (connection etc) or is this a complete co-incidence do we think. Car has been laid-up for 4 weeks prior to today's burst of activity so... As ever your guidance appreciated - couldn't find nowt via the search! Cheers AndyGP
  24. Hi, Just to close this thread - With many thanks for the advice provided - I managed to get the Air Reg off in about two minutes - FANTASTIC! All cleaned and ready to go back on... ;) My AAC measured @ 15ohms (11ohms stated) My FICD @ 25ohms and my IAA (Air Reg) @ 80ohms (75ohms stated) so I assume these are all within reasonable thresholds of variance for their purpose. Please let me know if you think otherwise as I intend to put it all back together tomorrow (weather permitting)! ;) ;) Thanks again. AndyGP
  25. Hmmmm - I have a suspicion that someone who should know better has connected these two identicle connectors the wrong way around!!!! I need a bit of visual guidance/confirmation of the correct pairing of the connectors. They sit at the back of the engine under the scuttle above the IAA unit kinda area. Could someone confirm the colour of the wires on the connector that plugs into the 02 plug (white sleeving) please? Many thanks. ;) AndyGP
