  1. Your opinion is your opinion, but i will pick a couple of holes in what you said. Firstly it aint possible to retire that young. To get the full pension you have to do 30 years service, so the youngest you can retire is 48. There are very few officers who joined at the age of 18 left in the police. Also the average age of a police officer now is 31 with 6 years service. In comparison to the guys who are coming to the end of their carrers, officers of the "average" wage dont get anywhere near the allowences that the guys coming to the end of their carrer get (ie houseing allowences etc). This drastically reduces the amount of benefits, and overall income of an officer who falls into the "average age" bracket. Which in short, make the average wage of officers extremely comparible to that of middle management positions in the private sector. Further to that, theres no difference between us and the forces in that when you retire you can do something else. And the whole reason the police pension is so good, is because we so much bloody money into it. This country being less dangerous than the US is complete pish. The fact is we have a comparible rate percentage rate of illegal firearms in circulation in the public to the overall populus as the US does. This is not a well publised fact, but trust me its true. And what do we have do defend ourselfs with, watered down CS spray which 1 in 10 people are immune to. Coppers are getting sacked all the time for corruption and incapablity, and yet again, this aint well publised as it would present a poor public image of the police. What I will say about the armed coppers you saw is, they make my job very difficult in trying to show how the police and should act. As with most things its a case of the minority spoiling it for the majority. Nick
  2. The only way that i know of that the DVLA would find out that you have been repeatedly been stuck on for a small number plate, is that if you are given a ticket several times by the SAME officer. DVLA arnt informed of non-endorsable ticket, for the very reason that they do not endorse a driving licence. The only way i aware of is if the officer who has caught someone repeat offending can file a very lengthy report to the DVLA as to why he thinks that a Q plate should be issued, and then the DVLA make the desicion. To be completely honest ive only ever seen this done once in 5 years, and its such a rare occurance, i wouldnt expect to see it happen again any time soon. But it DOES happen. Just hope you never get stopped by the same copper more than once with an illegal plate. I'm personally happy to run that risk
  3. For the bike which has got a small plate and on my old zed i had a small plate, every time i MOT it, i only got an advisory. I was speaking to the MOT tester and he said that VOSA did bring in a thing for illegal plates, and then promptly retracted them. He did tell me the reason for the retraction but i cant remember what it was
  4. Cheeky sod! I had a very similar scenario with my last zed with the rear plate, it looks the same as your, but the traffic cop said it was ok as it met with import car standards. The scheme is called Vehicle Defect Rectification Scheme (VDRS) where you have to take it to an MOT station and have it re assessed for road worthyness. Thing is, you cant fail and MOT for having small plates. All seems a bit daft to me!
  5. i think im right in saying yellow are 720s
  6. Congrats fella. Besh wishes to all of you
  7. This is some of the best car control ive seen in ages! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xDMvKHoAyU Nick
  8. Yeah petrol starts loosing its combustability after 2 weeks or so. I seem to remember reading somewhere that if you store a car for a long period of time you should leave thicker oil in it. Cant remember why that is but im sure some research on the net should bring you the answers
  9. that is stunning. By far one of the best zeds i think ive ever seen.
  10. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah gotcha, now i re-read it i see what your saying! Doh.
  11. Police pension is 11% of you monthly wage, which is around and about £300 quid a month for me.
  12. Basic pay for a copper OUTSIDE of london is £21K, which goes up to around 30K after 10 years service if you stay as a PC. Obviously London Weighting ads a fair wack of for Met coppers. But i think the national average for a PC with 5 years service is around £24K
  13. wtf are you on, ive been a member for a year longer than you, and have been a copper the whole time! :slap: :mac1: :slap:
  14. Jim, where abouts are you in london?
  15. the AFM is the air flow meter, the black box before your air filter. the CAS is the Camshaft Angle Sensor which sit at the front of the right hand bank of cylinders. Its a circlar metal object thats pokes out the front of the cambelt cover just below the rubber hose that goes into the plenum.
  16. Duffer deffo looks like Niall McKenzie
  17. Ill go with what vini said, I dont think i look like any one famous Although Desperate Dan has come up in the past
  18. What sort of condition are your shocks and springs in? Just after i bought my zed i found it had a very similar problem which i tracked down to a knackered rear shock. After seeing all these suspesion related threads your putting on fella, it sounds like you need a complete suspension overhaul. Just fixing the odd bits on the setup is quite likely to show up other weak spots in the suspension system. Personally i would just bite the bullet and do everything and have the piece of mind that your not going to have any further problems in the future. HTH Nick
  19. Lube??? why would you lube electrical connections? Get yourself down to any decent motorfactors and buy some contact cleaner, its only a couple of quid. Before you buy any parts, properly clean the connections with a brillo or scouring pad to get any corrosion of the contacts. Try cleaning the AFM, TPS (throttle position sensor), Water temp sensor and the CAS. Reposition the TPS into its default position and work from there. Have you checked for any error codes?
  20. but its still a poopra

  22. I completely agree with you, and a pay increase to cover inflation should be incorperated into every company. BUT its not, as much as it sucks. The major gripe i have is that one of the things the Police has always had is a statutory pay rise every year. Police officers have given up lots of other things to keep this, Travel allowances (which every MP gets), Housing allowance (which every MP gets) and the biggest one being the right to strike, so its not like we havent made sacrafices to maintain this agreement. And yet some pen pusher in downing street sees fit to piss all over my pay slip!
  23. It seems to be a pretty much a top subject in the news at the moment. As some of you may seen, the current government has decided not only to go against the long term agreement of a yearly pay increase that matches the rate of inflation (3%) every september, but also not back date the pay increase. Most will probably guess what my reaction to this is, given my current choice of employment, but im curious to what you guys think about it all. Please dont comment about the whole subject of whether police officers should be able to strike or not, which to be honest, will never happen. Nick
