Yep, I did exactly that last weekend ...........and got pulled. I was just about to storm past a 200sx when he put on his hazards. If he hadn't done that I could well have been in lost licence territory. I owe that person a beer. In the end I got the speed lecture as he hadn't been able to clock me properly.

I think this guy is only trying to offer some very sound advice to someone who is looking to purchase a £2000 Zed... and at £2000 the chances are it will "probably" be a right dog. Yes, he could have worded his thread a little better but I'm sure we have all made similar mistakes in the past. We must also remember that the forum is here to have some good banter - and we are certainly getting that with this one.

So if you was to see my car you would of walked away because of its looks, and you would of passed on a perfect machine ;) If you came to drive my car for an hour, i would drop you off in the middle of no where and tell you to piss off :p Tears are already running down my face. This one is definately going to be a very interesting thread.

Painting timing covers...
Smoothed (not polished) mine using wet and dry - by hand.

Well said that man. Reckon there is some petty sound advice there. That said, I have a loudish stainless exhaust and wider wheels and I am most certainly not in the boy racer category (mind you I kept the orignals just in case I grow up a bit). PS. Something tells me you may get some more replies as I would guess that many will not agree with your wise words of wisdom. Could be an interesting thread.

They don't fold like JAP spec but they are heated.

Both in Cornwall (ish) as well. I'm looking forward to seeing Dave's car as every time we have met he has been in yours. It'll probably be snowing for the Jan meet so they will both be tucked up in their garages.

Dave That makes 2 of us then. UK, 50,000 miles, 1 previous owner, Full SH and NO RUST. I hunted for a UK Zed (previously had a JAP N/A) because I didn't want the niggles of converted speedos and spurious mileages. I also wanted one in standard trim with just the odd mod. That said, there's no guarantee on any second hand car that its not been clocked or tampered with. You just need to know what your looking at, ask the right questions and guage the seller in my opinion. If you plan on keeping the car for some time and are looking at possible classic status then a UK car will always end up worth more than an import. We just might have to wait a long time! Personally they are all great cars - JAP or UK.

If its miles away why don't you ask someone on this site to have a quick look. At least that way they can report back to you as to whether its worth you visiting. If he is keen to sell I'm sure he would dirive it to them so there would be no expense on their part.

Cornwall meet 27th January
1, Lisaf 2, Wow300 3, Red zed 4, Mike Blue Z 5, dan300zxTTT 6, coppen 7, retro (In a Mondeo) 8, zogg (To be confirmed) (in a Nissan, but not a zed) 9, Legrath 10, shelton 11, jon (To be confirmed) 12. Mickeybigzed I am confirmed and my brother is on the list as he will normally attends in his Zed. Doesn't look like we have a meeting place confirmed yet. As much as Perranporth has a big communal car park, it is right next to the sea and last time all the cars were covered in sewage due to the strong winds. I am happy to research an appropriate venue with good parking and cheapish grub if you (Lisa) is content.

Oil leak/smoke from under bonnet
Make sure its not your power steering leaking. Obviously you will be losing a bit of fluid from the power steering resevoir if this is the case. Mine used to smoke from under the near side of the bonnet and ocassionally from the near side front wheel arch. It's a relatively easy fix if its just a pipe thats split.

Going in my BMW Mini Cooper - it does a little bit more MPG than the Zed! Leaving early and getting back late so would miss you even if I was to go via Paignton.

Red Zed Truro, Cornwall
John You can't be wrong as he hasn't joined yet. That will "hopefully" be his name when he gets his act together and gets a computer!

Yep. That was the bro (mickeybigzed) making a lot of noise and scaring the locals.

November Meet
Put me down as a possibility. It really does depend on which day I go to the Birmingham NEC for this year's bike show.

bad vibration under my seat and glovebox
Had a new clutch fitted on my old n/a and whne I picked it up she vibrated like hell at anything over 30 mph. Apparently they had put the prop shaft back on 180 degrees out. A quick change and she was fine.

Cornwall mini meet
I am beginning to wish I never bothered starting this thread. This began with my brother (mickeybigzed) and me deciding to go to Hells Mouth for breakfast in our Zeds as the weather looked so good. A nice few hours out - and we decided to see if there was anyone else in the area that may be interested. I CANT MAKE THE PLYMOUTH MEET. Reason - I am in the Navy and will be at Penhale Training Camp with trainees over that weekend. I'm sure others also have their reasons. You are correct - with a combined effort we could have 20 Zeds (easily) and if there is sufficient attendance at this Cornwall 'mini' meet and any future meets we may have, it is certainly something that can be discussed. This 'mini' meet is only a couple of hours out for those living locally. Many can't spare the time to take the best part of a full day out as it may be their only day off. Some may not be able to afford it. As stated in previous threads, even though it is only Plymouth, for some of the Cornish lot who live in Penzance, Hayle etc this can still be a 200+ mile round trip. Not cheap if you have a TT. I did look at the SW October meet thread and there didin't appear to be many (anyone?) coming from Cornwall so I didn't think I would be treading on anyone's toes. You have my apologies if you beleive that to be the case. As I have stated in the past, trying to be an area organiser is not an easy job and you have my respect for the hours you put in and efforts expended trying to drum up enthusiasm but please don't knock others for trying to arrange a few local events during the year. That said, maybe we just get twitchy at the thought of venturing far afield and crossing that big river on that even bigger bridge. The thought ................ahhhhhhhhh! Looking forward to seeing Dave's Zed - one day.

be honest ! 300zx owners !
I think the Zed is no different than any performance car that is over 15 years old. Buy a crap one and you will get fed up with spending money on a bottomless pit. Buy a good one and providing you maintain it properly, it should serve you well. Having owned both a NA and a TT I would suggest the NA is the one to go for if you want to use it as a daily driver. Yes, the TT is faster but by christ does it drink the go go juice. There is also much more that can go wrong. My NA needed a new clutch shortly after purchase but that was just bad luck - it felt fine for the first 2000 miles. The PTU also packed up but this was a simple replacement. Only other expense was on nice bits (which I didn't need to buy) such as stainless exhaust, leather retrim and 18" alloys. I also had the timing belt changed just in case. All in all, she was pretty reliable. My TT is only used a second car and just needed a new clutch after 1500 miles - must be catching. Apart from stainless exhaust and alloys she has needed nothing but she has only done 3000 miles since I bought her. There you have it.

Cornwall mini meet
Lisa You have a point - hence the reason I made it a mini meet. Do not wish to steel your thunder or entice others who are attending the monthly meet in Plymouth - I would be there myself but unfortunately I can't make that weekend. The forecast for this Sunday looks really good so this is aimed at the locals who are in the area. That said, of course anyone else from further afield is more than welcome.

Bad Vibrations !
Bruce Can't PM you so have added to this thread. See Cornwall Mini Meet in South West Section. Might be an opportunity to meet some of the locals if you can make it.
