  1. Changed my mind after one phone call  Fekking Autotrader - Ilford is NOT 12 miles from my postcode as their stupid site reckons - more like 52 miles....... Secondly, I got bad vibes about the seller. He was too vague about answering my questions..... How long have you had the car......"Don't know....oh, maybe a year..." I see it has full history, do you have all the bills too......."Er Er, I have the service book but don't know about any bills. I just have what I got with the car...." Do you have all the old MOTs......"er er, I don't know....." What work have you had done on the car......."don't know realy".... I thought it sounded too good, I don't think I'll waste the effort going to see it, I have a nice 300ZX anyway and I know that't OK Richard :smw:
  2. RichardS replied to a post in a topic in General Discussions - Non 300ZX
If 0-100 times are suposed to be quicker with an auto I'd expect the 80-100 to be a tad quicker in the auto as well. It depends on the condition of the auto box - mine kicks down with almost no delay at high speeds. If I floor it at 80 it is immediate and 100 comes up very quickly. It can have a slight delay at lower speeds but not very often. Richard :smw:
  3. Shaving time off an already quick 0-60 is pretty hard even with the right mods, but IIRC it should reduce the 0-100 and 1/4 mile times by quite a bit. Richard :smw:
  4. .......As I've seen a nice 300ZX for sale. It's only 12 miles from me, a 1994 series 2 UK auto with 60K miles in white with FNSH. It's been garaged all its life and is the bargain price of £4950  I have to go and see that, don't I? Richard :smw: PS anyone want a nice 1990 UK auto in red with 83k miles, s/h, 1999 spec front etc..... ;)
  5. Sure does  Personally I don't bother reading posts in TXT TLK as it's too much effort. In fact being an old timer of 35 I actually text in English :o Richard :D
  6. I have a stock TT auto and it pulls nicely from idle with litle lag or delay. It hits 2500rpm in a second or so then really takes off when the turbos kick in properly, whizzing to the red line in no time if I keep my foot down. The autos have slighly smaller turbos to spool up quicker thus significantly reduce lag. I don't drive like this all the time but it's fun to boot it every now and then. I tend to use the power more for overtaking rather than standing starts - usually every trip to work :D Richard :smw:
  7. Looks like the Blue Flame one. I bought mine from Blue Flame direct in an Ebay auction. Keep a look out as they come up quite regularly with a £350 reserve. I paid £350 + £15 post and it is excellent. Richard :smw:
  8. Bad luck Anna :( We all have opinons as to what is right or wrong here but if we are being honest we all speed at times, but the law is the law and you must face the consequences if you break it. Personally I obey 30, 40 and 50 limits but treat "national" speed limit as what ever I determine as safe, even though that means breaking the law. For instance I will drive at 95-100 on an empty m-way in clear dry conditions because it is safe to do so, if I get caught I will accept the punishment as it's my choice to drive at that speed. I will slow right down in bad weather though, even if everone else still speeds past at 70 "because that is the speed limit....." ;) This is where "safety cameras" are ineffective as driving a well maintained 300ZX at 100mph on a dry empty m-way is much safer than driving a Corsa in the same circumstances as the ZX is built for the speed. I would also argue it is safer than driving that same Corsa at 45 round town, but there are some tree hugging types that think 100mph is totally unacceptable and I should have my b0ll0x removed for even thinking about doing it. I think some rural 30mph speed limits have been extended far beyond the previous boundaries of villages in recent years and this does indeed cause frustration. It is too easy therefore to forget you are still in a 30 zone as there are no street lights etc, but you should still be aware of the limit. I agree with the other's comments - plead guilty, take it on the chin but appear apologetic and accept you have learnt your lesson. Good luck Richard :smw:
  9. Dio  Rock and Roll Children - one of the greatest rock tracks to play loud whilst driving a ZX   Makes me get home from work twice as quick......... Richard :D
  10. High beam and low beam only operate alone, not at the same time even when you use the "flash" UK cars do not have front fogs as standard so the switch is for fronts on J-spec and rears on UK spec. If your fogs come on together someone has done some dodgy DIY wiring to use the one switch. Richard :smw:
  11. Not sure how costly removal of the textured stuff is. But I have a useful tip for polishing it - instead of buffing with a cloth use a clean dry sponge instead, failing that, wrap the buffing cloth round a sponge. It gets into all the dips and bumps with much less effort. Richard :D
  12. I personally do not rate bleed valves as they are uncontrollable and crude. Sure way to make the engine go bang IMO - stick with a boost controller mate. Richard :smw:
  13. Here here ;) Richard :D
  14. Fekkin hell SI - I thought that too :o Also glad it was your company car - I mean after all that time Gio & I spent looking over the car for you.......... ;) Bloody woman drivers - insurance companies may have done research to prove women have less accidents than men but they surely must cause more accidents with their indecisiveness and dithering about :nelson: Richard :D
  15. Have to agree with you there Andy........ And the rest of you - I mean all that "gangsta 'N' txt spk" really fecks me off - who the feck does he think he is impressing  Total cnut IMHO...... :xxx: Sorry fellas...... :mac1: Richard ;)
  16. Very nice mate..... Would look good saying "TWIN TURBO" I reckon...... :hyper: Richard :smw:
  17. Nooooooo! Not again! just when I'd got that fekking song out of my head from the last time some bast@rd posted it here   Richard :smw:
  18. Hey Si, The £80 is all in - includes transfer of your cherished number to your car and the "standard reg" being allocated to the donor car. Take the form, both MOTs, both tax discs and both V5s to your local VRO. Queue for 5 hours (like I did at Stanmore :headvswal ) pay your money and its all done for you. (NB some VROs are good - I use Luton now and they take 10 minutes.....) They allocate the numbers to each car as appropriate and you get your V5 back in a couple of weeks, but the transfer is completed immediately so you need to have the new plates ready to go on. Richard :smw:
  19. Not to mention the cost - why bother unless you're running serious power  If it's just for looks it's not worth it - spend your money elsewhere........ Richard :D
  20. Personally unless you're going for full stripped out race spec then it's a stupid idea IMO :nelson: The difference in performance will be negligible as these cars have a clever device that turns off the a/c when you give it some serious welly anyway and the weight saving makes no difference unless you remove every other comfort aiding device (like seats, interior trim etc ;) ) You'd also limit the number of potential buyers should you wish to sell the car later - anyone doing some research would know the car comes with a/c so many buyers may be put by it not being there. It's a comfortable GT car afterall so such luxuries would be expected..... Anyway a/c is pretty much an essential extra for cars now and I for one would not buy any car (zx or otherwise) without it. Leave it in mate :x: Richard :D
  21. Love those wheels mate - really suit a black ZX  Richard :smw:
  22. Unlucky mate - you still want to remove that ABS?? :x: In Cornwall during the summer I had a seagull almost take out the front mesh on my 99-spec bumper. I was doing about 85 on the A39 out of Truro, overtaking some old gits down hill and there were a flock of seaguls (not the 1980s group ;) ) in the road eating some dead thing. They all flew away as I thundered towards them, then I saw 2 coppers either side of the road with radar guns. I hit the brakes, slowed to 60 and one dozy gull came back to finish his meal. Whack - he bounced off the bumper and his carcass was propelled in the direction of one of the coppers  Put him right off focussing his radar gun on the ZX :hyper: Richard :D
  23. Possibly although you couldn't have used 4-star in a ZX as it would've killed the cat! I do remember super u/l was available in 1990 though.... As for what I use now - 95ron u/l normally (Shell or BP only as I collect pluspoints/nectar points, no sense in spending a fortune on fuel and not getting anything back!). I use Optimax in very hot conditions though as I have occasionally had detting. Stock UK car (well apart from filter & exhaust) so regular is fine. Richard :)
  24. Cost wasn't an issue - I was looking to replace my Mk3 Supra and the logical choice was the Mk4. I drove the Mk4 Soop, 300zx and 3000gt and chose a ZX. In all honesty the Mk4 Supra is a tiny bit quicker and steers/corners better but it feels too anaethstetised compared to a ZX. Just like the car is driving you, not the other way round. Given that the margin between them is otherwise so small, the ZX was better value at the time. I have thought about replacing the ZX with something newer recently and my choices to date are a 1998+ Jag XKR or Maseratti 3200 (can be got for £22k), maybe even a new 350z. I ruled out the TVR Cerberra on the reliability stakes. However I get back in the ZX and all such thoughts go out the window as for the price a ZX does everything the Jag or Mas can do...... Plus the 300zx is still one of the best looking cars on the road, it has aged very well and still turns heads wherever it goes. Richard :)
  25. UK cars are limited to 155 and j-spec to 112mph. UK cars have speedo just like any car with readings in MPH but smaller KM/h figues also. UK odo would read miles. J-spec cars are generally in better condition as the Japanese do not drive the speeds and distances we do here, though having said that an engine may be restricted to 112mph but the Japanese owner could still have nailed it in every gear up to the limiter. Just pay your money and take your choice - buying any used car is a gamble. There are some nice low mileage clean UK cars out there but they are rare now and this is reflected in the prices. You can occasionally feel the HICAS but for a big rear wheel drive car the ZX handles pretty well. Some disable it, I like the car as Nissan designed it. Cam-belts are lighter and quieter than chains and don't require the extra lubrication. Most cars from the last 20 years use belts. HTH Richard :)
