Posted October 13, 200519 yr I am finding the TT a lot different from the NA, to say the least. The TT does seem to have a bit of a hole right at the bottom of the rev range. I don't know if it's the car, the autobox, or just me. In the NA I felt power from zero on up, but with the TT I feel the power beginning as the boost builds up (2,600 or so). I can understand that bit However, with the manual NA, although I was obviously going slower, I felt I was getting my peak power as it revved to just over five thousand, and I felt almost like I never needed to rev it higher. Now, although I am going faster, I think I always need to let the engine rev higher. What I am asking is- how far do you push the revs towards the red on a daily basis? I have always been a pussy driver and never taken a car to it's limits. I back off before I feel I am doing anything silly, and never let the car go to its maximum. On a 'normal' run (I mean not doing a 1/4 mile or anything) how far do you let the car rev before changing up or backing off? I don't feel as in control of it with an auto and it does make it a weird driving experience because you hear the thing change gear at what seems like odd times. In a stock TT when will I reach peak torque or power compared to an NA? Where do you draw the line on a 'normal' drive about how far to push the car?
October 13, 200519 yr I have a stock TT auto and it pulls nicely from idle with litle lag or delay. It hits 2500rpm in a second or so then really takes off when the turbos kick in properly, whizzing to the red line in no time if I keep my foot down. The autos have slighly smaller turbos to spool up quicker thus significantly reduce lag. I don't drive like this all the time but it's fun to boot it every now and then. I tend to use the power more for overtaking rather than standing starts - usually every trip to work :D Richard :smw: I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
October 13, 200519 yr A TT will be flatter at low revs due to lower compression ratio, however, once the turbos are spinning then max torque will be 3250 on an auto or 3750(ish) on a manual. Power will tail off a little at high revs, but with all that torque low down it doesn't matter that much.
October 13, 200519 yr Do you intentionally take it close to the red line? Occasionally, but there's no need most of the time.
October 13, 200519 yr Do you intentionally take it close to the red line? I drive mine deep into the 7000s all the time at Santa Pod!I was doing 94mph last Sunday as I grabbed 4th gear over the line. And "sometimes" on "private "roads near home!!! I believe the phrase is "squeeze it till it squeeks"
October 13, 200519 yr its not like you have a great deal of choice is there really, keep an auto planted and it will shift at 7k, as per design :D
