hi smithy
Hi mate, well not much to tell about that one. My young fella drove round in it for quite a while and i used it from time to time ( 2nd Zed!) fitted some decent discs and pads, fuel line kit and pretty sure it had a plenum by pass too. Previous owner's wife drove in to a road bollard and the car suffered minor damage to front bumper and wing, hence some new paint i believe. It was a great motor, i sold it to a guy near the Midlands and a couple months later the water pump went, so i paid for that to be replaced at Zedworld and the guy who owned it paid a wee bit extra for the cambelt to be done too. Jeff re balanced the throttle bodies and done the usual conzult etc and she was a good motor. So should do you well for quite some time really. Cheers Smithy

put car back together, not idling, now not starting
Just to clarify whats what now mate. Engine starts okay now ? It just doesn't sound right like it's running on 4 or 5 cylinders ? It ran perfectly fine in the TT shell before removal and you drove it all okay ? No Error codes from the ECU ? Cheers Smithy

Experts please help?
Erm, the 3 securing bolts mate. Each bolt that secures the cas to the holder back plate goes through a slot, with a felt tip pen draw around each bolt (top 2 will do) so that when the cas comes off and you refit, you know exactly which position to turn it until the bolt heads line up with the pen marked circles. smithy

Who'll remap my car for me?
Richard bell of risingsun performance has the equipment to map the nissan ECU's. They mainly deal in Skylines and a bit far from you, but maybe worth a phone call perhaps. smithy

hey new here
Welcome to the club mate ;) With you being in the Midlands, get yerself over to zedworld in Tamworth for a thorough free check over on the whole car. Only condition is though, he only does it for subscribed members which is £20 to join, so well worth it :D Good luck with the motor anyways bud. cheers smithy

newbie in need of help. Fuel pump??
To save a lot of fanny arsing around trying different things and maybe getting no where, look at this link and do as it says as it only takes 10mins. Tell us the fault that it tells you and we'll tell you how to fix it ;) http://www.ttzd.com/tech/diagnostictech.html If that looks daunting, get a bag of frozen peas or similar and when you look at the engine, on your left (drivers side) at the front you'll see a wiring harness going to a grey alloy block a few inches square that looks like it has fins. Place the frozen veg in your hand and then onto the front of this small unit for a few mins so as to cool it down. Then try the car again a few minutes later, no start, then do as in the link. Smithy

Another fan thread!
Nope, it defeats the object of having it then. The Electric fan ( in place of the viscous) should only come on when it's needed. Smithy

towbar on 300zx..??????
I know your a very long way away, but if in the next few weeks your driving down south, pop in to Zedworld and you can have mine if you want it. You will have to unbolt it though, but that's not hard to do :) Shape and size and weight etc don't really make it viable to mess around unbolting myself and posting, but the offers there for you though if you want it. smithy

Engine shopping list £6000
Yep, well pretty much that list should cost about 1.5K, infact a wee bit less if bought from the US. I put rods down as optional simply cos ours are already forged, the only non forged parts in our block our the pistons. But still a good idea for the small added cost and peace of mind. The above spec, yep is strong enough for some decent power later on if need be. Once you buy that lot and thinking ahead, i would suggest a smallish 5 bolt set of turbo's like the ones mentioned in spindoctors thread yesterday or JWT530's. Simply because these are the biggest added expense for fitting in the future, it doesn't matter if you don't use their full potential now, the option is there for the future subject to funding. As additional parts that are needed to make these babies sing! are not expensive to buy or fit later on ;) Good luck fella! smithy

Engine shopping list £6000
Theres a rebuild and theres building a high powered motor that requires specific parts to be stronger and better. At 6K he's clearly priced up the latter. It should cost no more than 1.5K for just the parts ( excluding turbo's) for a good rebuild. Anything more and your fitting parts that may not actually be required. Rebuild parts though can consist of anything, but generally speaking would be pistons/rings, full gasket set, New bolt head set, big end bearings, oil pump, water pump, cambelt kit. Optional is rods and new valves for the heads. Smithy

Vicious fan keeps coming on
This guys got it coming on when driving though Chris, not just sat in traffic for long periods. So theres clearly something a miss somewhere as it's cut in point is in the 90's and that ain't much short of cooking a gasket on a 20 year old motor. Viscous should do pretty much 95% of all conditions and on many Zeds it does all 100% of them. So i just want the guy to check things out before something rather nasty happens, which as you and i know means, MONEYYYYYYYYY :D smithy

Vicious fan keeps coming on
No it's not normal, so far it's been good that it's done it's job, but it's the last chance saloon. So you need to discover why. A zed can run for donkey's years without the need for it to come on. We're used to sub fans coming on when using modern day cars in hot weather etc and the fan itself is designed for that, however modern day cars don't have a viscous fan!! Smithy

are these worth there money
The turbodynamics t28/t25 hybrid that i have is their stage 3 and is a 5 bolt design and a BB turbo. Goes like stink with those babies :D smithy

Vicious fan keeps coming on
Right, just to establish we're all talking the same thing here before panic sets in, lol If the fan you can see in the engine bay is running, that's fine. If the fan that you can't see under the centre headlight panel is running when the engine is on or even when the ignition is on, then that represents a problem, especially as you have no aircon. Yes remove the cap slowly and you could remove the bleed screw first and see the level. smithy
-
Vicious fan keeps coming on
I gotta go now, but in short if the one that's electric is running ( the one you can't see) and the air con is not on, houston, you got a problem, sozzz Check coolant and water temp sender to ECU. Laterz Smithy

towbar on 300zx..??????
Yep i got one on mine, i just remove the outer swan neck section when i don't use it, so it can't really be seen ;) smithy
-
Vicious fan keeps coming on
That's how it should be, but which one do you thionk is making the noise that you can hear when you hav eyour probs, the one you can't see or the one you can't and more importantly there should be little or no noise from the one you can see. You will know if the other fan is running because it is somewhat noisey and has that electric fan sound. smithy

Vicious fan keeps coming on
A litre bottle should be under a fiver mate, but just check it first and if alls well with engine running, remove the bleed screw on top of rad and see if any air is in there. smithy
-
Vicious fan keeps coming on
Best thing is next time it happens, leave engine running and lift bonnet and move the accelerator linkage so therevs increase and then tell us which fan it is. The one you can see in front of you or the one you can't. With conflicting names for fans etc is only confusing trying to diagnose the problem for yer fella. Though personally, i think the one your hearing is the eectric sub fan, which erm you shouldn't! Check coolant levels asap. smithy

Engine Cooling/Electric fan question
No not at all mate, i think with 475lb's of torque and peaking at 1.2 bar, she runs like a dream ;) oh and as for fuel, with these things once modified, geez who friggin knows, lol smithy

Engine Cooling/Electric fan question
On an average journey it's 79-80deg and when pushed hard for long period of time it's gone up to 84, but that's it. Am using an Apexi EL gauge with a sensor plumbed in the Rad hard pipe for my readings, what is it your getting your readings from ? and any engine bay pics, couldn't see any in radron's rides. Oh and i don't run any shroud, but i do have a S/S Slam panel. smithy

gonna stop moaning
Well personally and it's only my opinion mate, with the transplant done and a well worded advert pushing the newly fitted engine complete with gaurantee, i think you got a 4.5K zed. cheers smithy
