  1. Jaffa wants to run AEM management system, this requires changing a component inside the CAS to work correctly. Cheers Smithy
  2. No it wasn't that mate. Anyway hope that info shows you a little of what is involved and somewhere on here Jeff has posted many pictures showing some very important factors to consider when doing a cambelt swap. Good luck with it anyways. ;) Cheers Smithy
  3. Certainly a job you want to get done right that's for sure :) Check out the link below for some guidance mate, Jeff's done 100's of them. http://www.zedworld.co.uk/wizzf.html Cheers Smithy
  4. If someones throttle bodies are out of balance and many usually are, it would result in many different temps from different Zeds, one side being warmer than the other. Good luck anyway :) Smithy
  5. Just a bit of info on the Z32 airflow meter. It uses a hot wire type sensor to send "pulsed" signals back and forth to the ECU, incorrect or weak signals results in poor performance. Extremely weak or no signal, fooked MAF and you can even unplug it and still drive with the exact same symtoms. The most common cause of a weak signal, is a dirty hotwire. Yes they can be cleaned and numerous have done so. The same airflow meter can be found on the early Scoobies, Graham Goode who tunes these cars in great detail and with success does an upgrade to the strength of the pulsed signal i referred to above. It involves totally removing the hotwire, cleaning it and refitting in a new metal pipe closer to the turbo ( closer to turbo, stronger the signal) I know of both Zeds ( including my own) and Scoobies having cleaned their hotwires years ago to no ill effect. Choice of cleaning at a cost of a fiver or even nowt if you use ear buds and see how it goes or anywhere from 80-140 quid for a new or second hand one, which again will clog with dirty or poor performing airfilters. Cheers Smithy
  6. As in the thread above this one http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showpost.php?p=767625&postcount=1 smithy
  7. Yep or anything similar. If your MAF has the gauze still on an don both ends, remove the gauze that is furthest away from the airfilter so you can get in there with some ear bud thingys and cleaner. Fairly common with those who use cheaper branded air filters tbh, not saying you got one like :nelson: smithy
  8. Well code 21 is the ignition circuit, So PTU usually fails when it gets hot and if you cool it down, it should start again. Save any fanny arsing around, whack a series 2 one on, unless you already got one lol smithy
  9. Did you look at the hotwire inside yours to see how cruddy it was ? you can clean it with carb cleaner. smithy
  10. Yep! usually a stock item with mike feeney at MJP in the traders section smithy
  11. Getting it chipped, the correct term is eprom. ;) smithy
  12. Adjusting the CAS to attain 15 degrees is not a problem at all. However the 3 10mm bolts that go through the locator and secure the CAS should in an ideal situation be fairly central or even just a wee bit off centre. If the CAS has had to be turned so far as that the bolts are really one side of the locator, then it points to an issue else where. Also should you now hear any detonation higher up the rev range, it suggests a problem else where. SE Nissan often retarded the CAS back 2-3 degrees when doing boost upgrades to prevent detonation from leaning out higher up the rev range. Nissan mechanic or not, it is NOT uncommon to see Zeds running round with a cambelt a tooth or so out and it will run and start. It's only when the owner reports a loss of certain power it's identified, so do not discount the fact this could be your problem. Am sure Jeff at Zedworld will confirm he's seen this a number of times. If you do a wee search, Jeff posted up exactly in very fine detail how to do a cambelt change, you'll see just how important it is to be doubly sure things don't move when fitting the belt and tightening up. You can actually fully disconnect the MAF and the car will start and a knackered one would restrict you to 2.5K revs. However a dirty sensor on the inside of the MAF can cause idle problems and very minor restiction in power, this is why when some peeps swap MAF's with another one, they notice an improvement in their cars power. Personally if i was in your shoes, your approx 90mins from Zedworld, have Jeff do one of his all over assessments of the car, he will pay particular attention to the cambelt area for you to ensure all is as should be. With the aid of the proper conzult system, it will show any current fault codes and past ones too, again Jeff would do this. However in the meantime you can do your own basic diagnostics check using this link below, should take you no more than 10mins. http://www.ttzd.com/tech/diagnostictech.html Oh and the cat light could be 02 sensor (s) playing up as well. Hope that helps Smithy
  13. Ahh that's right forgot yours was a bit different like :) Assuming you stil use the viscous one, worth checking a few things are all correct else where first though eh. If you were to use an electric fan, i'd set it to come on at 85ish deg, that would allow for any variation of your driving that broght cool air into the engine. smithy
  14. If your ever running as high as 90 deg, then you got a wee problem some where and wiring up an electric fan to come on from start will slow down how quick the engine warms up, which ain't meant to be that way. Ideal temp range is 78-82 deg with 80 being pretty much bang on. Check a few things out to see why your running so hot, timing, thermostat etc. Oh and i've seen a few of the cheaper branded gauges give shite readings, Yer can't beat the conzult for this. smithy
  15. With those turbo's, manifolds, divorced waste gate pipes and an Alunox decent exhaust system to get rid of those gases, your engine should be very torquey indeed mate. Well matched IMO, I would expect to see around 480lbs of torque. Mine achieved 475lbs of torque and without the M/S manifolds BHP on yours i would estimate to be around 450, though that can depend on what exactly it eventually is mapped for :) But yeah deffo a proper check up first mate. Good luck! Smithy
  16. Hiya mate, been a long time since that naff meal in teh Indian one xmas eh :p I think what Jeff is saying, from the many Zeds he sees each and every day and he reads what the ECU has got from his PC, there is very little difference between the various chips he sees and those custom mapped ones. However clearly though there is sometimes a signicant difference between the performance of the individual cars which may or may not be down to the relevant chip, sometimes other parameters within the engine, not up to spec as such. If i was in your shoes mate, first i'd take the 2 hour drive down to his place for a full assessment, many do and find a major difference in the way the car performs. He can also tell you more of what you want to know and about your ECU, maybe even swapping with another for comparisson perhaps. This is the cheapest solution but more importantly should you later decide on the mapping route, you know the engine is exactly as it should be before a mapper who may not know our engines too well, plays with it. I mentioned Richard Bell at Rising sun as he maps Skylines, a different engine i know, but he still knows that if the engine is spot on as it should be to begin with, what the various ratios important to tuning should be and i understand he does a very good job. He also has the software/equipment to Map standard Nissan ECU's. In any event, i wouldn't advise anyone mapping your car without first checking everything engine wise is spot on, your missing a fair bit of potential power on those graphs IMO Oh and 1 little thing, from the spec you posted which i know you got from what Mark gave you, but your still a 3litre engine with the 89mm pistons mate. ;) Good luck which ever route you take, it's got some good potential and for possibly little money... Cheers Smithy
  17. No idea if it's closer, cos i live on an island lol But rising sun performance in Hampshire do the stock ECU mate. cheers smithy
  18. Geez, well after all that i can say 2 names that constantly get great reveiws, i've yet to see or even hear a negative comment about these 2. What's equally important as their skills on doing rebuilds etc, it is their customer service too. Something which if it's poor, will take away all the glory of the work your having done and lets face it, it ain't a cheap job! So if i ever needed mine rebuilt again, i and along with many others would either go to Jimmer who am sure you've probably spoken to already and good ole Phil. He's often getting the jobs others have ****ed up on, only got got half way through or even those the garage/mechanic never even started after god knows how long. Oh and those who've said "we're going bust so you better come and get your car, NOW!" and then not gave any money back and kept some of your parts! You can get phil at Blackmoor Service Station 363 Manchester Rd , Astley, Manchester, Lancashire M29 7DX Tel: 01942 883348 Gauranteed engine swaps though, deffo Zedworld :-) cheers smithy
  19. Would love to hear any feedback if you do use ztech mate, in particular where they ask you to bring the Zed. Maybe ring them for some advice 1st. Other than that, bit of a trek to Zedworld for you, but they have seen more Zeds through their door than any other garage past or present and offer free appraisal's for subscribed members. Cheers Smithy
  20. Well it's qaurter past 7 at the mo if thats what you want to know! Ah soz gotcha, you mean to the other thread you started today, geez had to really think what it was for a moment there  smithy
  21. Don't help that your clocks only go up to 160 mate, it should read 180 and some have another line after that indicating 190. So and without checking another set of UK clocks, i would expect a reading of 140 on those is really 110 on standard clocks. smithy
  22. S02's were discontinued in general sizes some time ago as far as i know and replaced with S03's. The reason limited sizes are still availble is because they are a Porsche standard tyre and fitment, hence Bridgstone have to carry on manufacturing them, but only in the sizes that fit the Porsches that had them fitted from the factory. cheers smithy
  23. Strange thing is if you look at the sellers other items for sale, you'll see a much nicer95 plate Zed and a few other things, but all the wording on the other adverts is so much better and understandable :) Oh and anyone bothered to google the website addy that's written in Gold on the Zed? rather interesting company, might be nice to meet the owner now me thinks :D smithy
  24. Correct and i guess the only way to find out, is to take a chance on 1 plug at a time fitted to the car until it develops the same fault again. smithy
  25. The 11-C's are in fact Nissan standard plugs mate so should have worked perfectly well for you. The 11b's Si mentioned are a slightly improved plug and aslo would have done the job. So, can only deduce that 1 of the plugs is faulty, however even stranger is the plugs it currently runs, erm it shouldn't. Strange! smithy
