Overtaken by a...
It gets a bit windy round here - Burnham On Sea (near weston super mare) the wind comes straight up the Bristol channel and hits land at about 100mph. Was driving along the seafront just now and ..whoosh.. got overtaken by a massive flying section of J.D.Whetherspoons fence. It kinda done a loop infront of me , scary, i thought shit its coming back!

Changed my tyre pressure!
Hey Rich, yeah it does a make a difference if u dont have stock size wheels/tyres. I have stock and run 32psi front and 35 psi back, coss it feels the best to me, and tyres wear completely evenly, didnt even know that was the reccomended! If you have 255/40's then the psi in the handbook means nothing. Play around with them till they feel right, tho it sounds like they are now. :-)

Fitting after market Rad
LOL, well maybe im just a non-conformist :D but, im not trying to teach granny how to suck eggs, and i think the guys theory is good, smaller end caps = less hot coolant being stored = more efficient cooling, but.. :D in practice i think just maybe it might have the opposite effect and bigger end caps might be slightly better than smaller, reason being that the overall coolant capacity will be greater and more coolant will be outside the engine being cooled at any one time. Sorry im not trying to be cantankerous :x: i think it just comes naturally to me :hyper: Now, wheres that kettle..

Fitting after market Rad
Good theory. But surely the end tanks would have to be massively over sized to cause even a slight overheating problem? The coolant is always moving thru the rad (when the thermostat's open) , at the same speed whether the end tanks are small or big? but if too small would restrict flow. But even if u think smaller end tanks are more efficient, the top hose is pretty big and holds alot of coolant, should that be smaller too? :-)

Viscous Coupling
willieo, the silicon oil used does get thicker as the engine warms up, ive been told by a reliable source :) . Its not the heat that does it tho. Greater velocity = greater viscosity. As the rad gets warm, bi metal spring heats up and turns arm in housing which moves the oil plate and lets more oil flow between the grooves, giving stronger connection between wheel and housing. Apparently reasons for slow fan are, 1 loss of oil 2 bimetal spring fault 3 siezed oil plate

Doing my good dead
lol @ dead, mike read the thread below too - 'what have i done' (mike reid??)
-
Viscous Coupling
willieo it doesnt sound that serious coss the heater fan is enuff to bring it under control. Mike how about making a temporary small bracket to lock the fan , and prove that it is that. my moneys still on degraded/knackered viscous fluid not thickening under heat.

Fitting after market Rad
gotta disagree with that clarkey / stu. electric fan much more efficient in slow moving traffic or at idle, as opposed to the viscous which is going at it slowest rotation when u need it most, low revs = slow rotation, and its fastest rotation when it may not be needed at all ie. 80mph on the mway .
-
Viscous Coupling
Yes mike its the coupling im sure of it. spoke to my mate. Apparently the fluid is silicon based and the thickness of treacle, and does get thicker (sorry guys not thinner!) as it gets hotter, creating the friction, try spinnin the fan when u get to work tomo , if its easy its fooked.

Fitting after market Rad
I dont know stu but i like the sound of that set up. Gotta be betta without the viscious, mike duffy u can do this too :-)
-
Viscous Coupling
It must be the rad mustnt it? not partially blocked inside with polystyrene packing beads? I had loads in mine when it arrived. The timing effects temp too but u know alot more than me so im sure its spot on! U had this prob before the new rad was fitted aswell? Ive gotta mechanic mate who knows everything (well, not about Zeds, but hes put a rover V8 in his triumph 2500 ) lol , ill ask him tomo what he thinks ,
-
Viscous Coupling
ok, its puzzleing then aint it! It cant be serious if the heater fan is enuff to bring temp back down can it? You've done everything to the cooling system so it has to be operating correctly. What about the actual fan blade? is it the correct one/size? maybe its not drawing enuff air thru?

Oil filter best- oil etc
Ady, every 6000 mate?
-
Viscous Coupling
I know its stating the obvious but could it be a faulty/inacurate temp gauge? Are u sure it is actually overheating?

Speeding Prosecution Time Limit?
good luck with that gotidude! but are the civil servants and/or the system who sort these things really so incompetent as to issue a summons after its too late and would mean nothing? the answers probably yes in many instances! admire u for standing up to 'em mate, we need more 'motoring criminals' lmfao to do the same.

Oil filter best- oil etc
IMO using a nissan filter isnt vital, quality of the oil is. I think the filter is the same one as the micra uses! I use castrol rs fully synth every 3000, and it always takes exactly 4 litres to the max on dipstick. (my mechanic jacks the car at an angle to get as much oil out the sump as poss)

Speeding Prosecution Time Limit?
3 what mate? months or years?

petrol smell
If that petrol goes up she'll be a pop idol :-) Have u checked all the little pipe connections? Is the steering just heavy at idle coss youre not moving? Its progressive power steering so is it ok when u get moving again? sorry if im stating the obvious, might help :-)

Clutch Bleeding
A bit of tubing with a non return valve in?

Is the forum real slow tonight?
Jesus chunk that must be torture! Im on broadband and pages load in about a Z 0-30 time. :-)

Tyres - what brand to go for?
Yes scoops, opinions seem to vary quite alot. I guess one mans 'push it to the limit' is another mans 'sunday afternoon drive'. My Z had continentals on when i got it, and they were awfull (sorry arthur) even in the dry the back would wiggle like mad , in the wet forget it! Changed to Bridgestone S02's and felt like a different car, very hard to slide it even in the wet booting it out of roundabouts, they really bite. Also the only car tyre ive seen that has 2 ply sidewalls for strength and safety. BTW SRRAE and Mac , do u have history? lol, u seem to disagree about everything lol.

Viscous Coupling
I had one lock up on a 2.8i capri, sounded great - made a kinda power roar - so i left it hehe just a bit of useless information.. :-)

Skyline Type Rear Lights
Must admit, they dont do anything for me neither, u guys dont like the standard round lights then?

how much is your speedo out
Mines an auto but every 40mph in overdrive = 1500rpm so @ 6400 - 6500 would be 171 - 173. It fits if 5th is same ratio.
