More speeding!
Sorry! :D Anyone interested like to add some ideas? When the scamera partnerships are asked to defend their actions, their number one answer is always "the law is the law" followed by " slow down and you will never hear from us". In theory they are correct, but can we throw in some common sense and add a touch of reality please! 99% of drivers (including on and off duty police, magistrates, lawyers etc.) will exceed the speed limit at some point when they feel it's safe to do so on any given journey. I wonder what percentage of drivers prosicuted for speeding were actually driving safely at the time? Are there any stats on this available? I would bet atleast 90% were driving safely and of no danger to anyone. Get caught four times and you lose your license having done nothing dangerous. But the law is the law! I would like to see the broad offence of speeding amended to 'excess speed near pedestrians' , 'excess speed without due care' , 'excess speed and dangerous manoeuvre' etc. In other words the offence of 'excess speed while driving safely' would no longer exist! Ofcourse, the new offences could only be dealt with by trained police officers at their discretion. Gatso's and mobile van speed traps would be redundant, you cant judge safe driving with a speed camera after all! But ofcourse all this would depend on whether the issue is really about road safety or raising cash.

Breaking the law
I think what you're saying is you personally wouldnt mind getting prosicuted for doing 80-90mph although driving safely at the time you were caught, as is the present police policy. If the limit was lifted or removed then some people would be happy to drive at 100-110mph i agree, but they would have to make damn sure they were doing it safely, weather permitting and not at a busy time or they would get nicked for overtaking without due consideration for other road users. As for 140+, hmmm pushing your luck but it would not be an offence on a totally empty m-way, unless your vehicle was defective in someway. Ignorant tossers will never be stopped from using m-ways, but with de-restriction the police would catch alot more of them as they would have to concentrate on bad driving alone. I just believe our draconian 70mph law should be reviewed. There are far too many safe drivers falling foul of it.

Breaking the law
Hi all , i wondered if there's any police among us? If there are could you explain why we have a 70mph m-way speed limit please? ( just asking) :D I have seen three officers using speed guns on the M5 this week and wondered what the threshold is for prosicution? Is it 10% plus 2 = 79mph? Is it deemed to be dangerous to exceed this speed? The head of the Somerset safety camera partnership stated on a live BBC interview this week, 'even if we did hide our cameras, the law is the law and you're breaking the law if you exceed any speed limit'. If this is the case why are the 99% of drivers who exceed the limit when they deem it safe to do so not being prosicuted? Should we not have a system in place in all vehicles that will track your speed and issue points and a fine every time the law is broken? After all, the law is the law and we drivers are not above it. In a matter of months after this system was introduced , 99% of drivers will be banned. Im not sure if the economy would collapse. Im not sure if their would be a vote of no confidence in the government. It would bring the whole 'speed kills' issue to a head though and perhaps would help us get some common sense policing on roads when the new conservative government took over. Personally i would like to see an advisory national speed limit in place, say 90mph on m-ways (excluding roadworks obviously). The offence of speeding on a m-way would no longer exist and all speed detection equipment would be banned (excluding road works and police in-car monitoring equipment). I believe the effects on road safety would be positive as police would not have the cushy job of pointing guns at those travelling at speed safely anymore. Instead they would have to concentate efforts on reducing dangerous driving and actually do something about tailgating, dangerous manoeuvers, drunk/drug driving, excess speed in poor weather conditions etc etc. Comments welcome! Cheers.

Standard Z front wheels...
LOL, Dont some of the guys here have much wider wheels/tyres on tho? Do they all tramline? I changed my jap rears to uk and im sure they stick out more rather than in more. Might try them on the front as a test!

Can they do this?
What a scandal! ! They've probably changed the rules for offences to take immediate effect on the ins' policy, they'll make a shed load. Do they take it from the date of the offence or the date the points were added to your license, which could be months later or never if you win in court. Anyone know?

De-catting an NA- should you do it?
Ive got a mate who's always going on about back pressure lol, im not an egg spurt but i just cant see how back pressure can be good. In practical terms surely decatting is the way to go, you dont want those expensive things on there !

You should really become a paid up member now you have your Z :-) you know it makes sense.. you'll have to look underneath to see if cats are there , i reckon they will be, you'll see the heat sensors on them. Are u gonna decatt it? More powerrr

LOL good fun innit! I think you mean the Cat overheat warning light, has it not been decatted yet?
-
Heat!!!
Have you still got Cats on your Z? as they let off loads of heat . Park on a dry field in the summer and you'll start a fire! Ive got vents at the front , middle and back of the bonnet and can see serious heatwaves rising from them when sat in traffic. After a spin on a warm day the bonnet is actually too hot to touch , how hot must it get under the bonnet , especially with no vents. Thats why i use 10W/60 engine oil in the summer too.

What is the best allround tire?
Ive got Bridgestone SO2's on the back, they've done 12000miles and have about 3mm tread left. They were excellent grip but not anymore - apparently the base compound is harder so they lose grip when the tread gets low. Apart from that cant fault them. Im gonna try Goodyear Eagle F1's next.

Another 3 points & £60 fine!!!!
You shouldnt lose a 1/4 of your license for that, these things can happen no matter how well you've checked the trailor. Might it be that it never actually happened? I would write to the police stating that when you got home you found the ramp in the boot of the car where your friend had put it after loading car on trailor. You mistakenly thought it fell off when you travelled over existing debris on the m-way. In the light of these circumstances I would ask that consideration be given to cancelling the fixed penalty ticket. Good luck

oh my god!
Jesus thats bad, those pics tell a story dont they.. reckon he was doin 90 or so , something like a badger runs across road and under offside front wheel, front of car lifts and spins 90' to the near side impacting tree at exactly the right point to split car in half. The fookin door is still wrapped round the tree. I guess if he'd been going 50 he may have kept contol of the car, suppose speed is a risk we all take and accept, i mean we dont see trains limited to 50 incase they derail - we want them to do 125.

Mobile Speed Camera Vans
Im pretty sure the guidelines say they should display a warning sign on the roadside xxxmetres infront of the van and clearly visible. Also only target areas that have had accidents within a 3 mile radius , WTF! But in reality they can set up any where they want and flout all the guidelines. Its good to see Topgear giving some publicity to the ABD and other campaigners for common sense. http://www.topgear.com/content/features/stories/abd/01/

Mobile Speed Camera Vans
bar stewards ! Think they can park up and start scamming where ever they like! One parked across a private driveway to a house the other day and was politely told to fook the hell off! Perhaps the one you saw was focusing up the road more where the roadworks ended? This way he could get loads of drivers accelerating out the roadworks, when they get back upto 80ish they're had and prosicuted regardless of how safe or dangerous they're driving.
