update on my swb restoration
Well I managed to get back to the UK and got a spare week to work on the car so I thought I would share some of the progress The first thing I did was pick up a used set of nismo lmgt4s They are 19 x 8.5 front et25 19 x 9.5 rear et30. The fitment is going to be about perfect, however they are currently running the wrong tyres (275/35 r19 all round) and my arches are std so I have had to add a load of camber to the rear and the front has no clearance. Anyway here are a few pics - - - Updated - - - Well I managed to get back to the UK and got a spare week to work on the car so I thought I would share some of the progress The first thing I did was pick up a used set of nismo lmgt4s They are 19 x 8.5 front et25 19 x 9.5 rear et30. Here is a quick preview of my wheels fitted. The rest will be in my build thread [/img]- Cleaning throttle springs
These are mine Just cleaned in petrol- Painting diff
Blasted and clear coated the rear cover, the main case I painted in epoxy mastic, the same as I undercoated all of the underside. Awesome stuff- At a quandary with my interior.
For the record, the above is pretty much my current interior and works out very nice ans subtle- New wheels
Thanks That's better, where did I go wrong, not used to doing this through ipad- New wheels
I'll be picking up the wheels next week so here is a quick tease of how they look on their current owners car - - - Updated - - - Damn why is my image so small- gauge ?
Do you really need that many gauges?- Star Zed, a Micheal bay production!!
It says in need of a re spray in a few areas. I would say in all areas. As a UK zed with a fully blended kit I would be very cautious with regards to rust. The sills could have disintegrated without any obvious signs. I think Stella's old car was the same- do or can we run without recurculation valve things?
Running without is ok in my experience- Order from Wiring Specialties
Thanks for the tip si I'll check mine out tonight- Na tt rear hubs and rear upright
Uprights are the same except the hicks joint Tt rear hubs, driveshafts etc are not Be aware there is also a dust seal for the driveshaft, they need to be swapped also Personally I would be keeping the rubber bushes. I have experienced poly bushes in both my old z32 and s14, both very similar rear suspension and in both cases it made the car worse.- Order from Wiring Specialties
Mine just arrived today actually Hopefully I won't be charged duty when entering the uk- brake disk removal.
To remove the caliper you don't need to remove the pads but you will need to push the prisons back slightly. The pads will be catching on the lip worn on the disc. Just carefully lever them back. I mean no disrespect but if you get stuck with this you probably shouldn't be working on brakes being that they are kind of important for stopping. I'm sure there are plenty of guides on YouTube. When reinstalling make sure all the hub faces are free from rust and make sure the pads are properly seated with a little copper grease on the back and on the sliders. No on the friction face Also be aware that when you push the Pistons back it will return fluid to the reservoir so don't let it overflow. Brake fluid is good paint stripper!- A Start To Getting The Zed Back
Mondo- out of interest what would you suggest doing to the recaros?- Brake servo (fitting a brand new one potentially)
Not pressed mate, you actually just need to rotate the front part relative to the back plate a couple of degrees. There are a couple of ramp like protrusions pressed into the outer can, it acts like a big bayonet fitting. However, 20 years of the rubber being compressed and a little surface rust makes it ba:$@?(d tight. I had a spare so I gave it a go. For the mechanically brave only- Petrol Prices
Wow, UK prices have really dropped. I remember it was nearly 1.50- Brake servo (fitting a brand new one potentially)
Can't comment on a new one but I stripped mine, repainted and checked for any deterioration. Will be testing it shortly- New wheels
Thanks for the advice si, Any thoughts on tyre choice, I always used to run eagle f1s Tyre aesthetics will play a part in the choice - New wheels
