"You picked a fine time to leave me, Loose Wheel!" - Mondo's new Zed.
Glad to hear it mate. I may have another pair of recaro speeds to keep you busy in the near future. I just need to decide exactly what I want. Are they a pain to refurb or ok. I assume they are exactly the same as yours

Hmm, sounds interesting. I love your interior as it is, your not going for the full red dash?

I think I'd still be on to a good deal mate:thumbup: although in all honesty I'm sure we have both invested too much time, money and energy into our cars to let them go. One thing I need some help with, I'm going to need to sort an agreed value insurance policy on this. I've not done this on one of my cars before as they have never been highly modified and/or were a bit crappy. What have you guys done? I'm not sure on the value but I guess for insurance purposes it would have to be around 20???

White smoke, spluttering, rattling, everything
First things you need to do, and honestly you need to do them all Establish the exact problems Does it idle smoothly, does it misfire, what is the idle speed Check/ replace plugs- do a compression check while you are doing this Oil change Check every electrical connector on the engine- there will be green corrosion- remove it, there are lots of guides on here/ the net Get a consult cable- £15 off eBay and will help hugely Set timing- 15 btdc up to temp with ac off Remove pas and alternator belt and see if the noise goes If it doesn't- it's probably a timing belt bearing If it's been 10 years on that timing belt, get it changed Boost/air leak test These cars require a bit of knowledge to get going properly, maybe you have a friendly local member that can help you out. Even with experience and all the right bits to hand it sounds like there is a long weekends work on the car. With reference to the fuel, sitting in there for a long time could have gummed up the injectors, an injector flush may help

Antenna removal and alternative
I went in this direction too, although I've not actually used the radio so I can't report on the reception. I looked at fitting a sharks fin to the hole in the rear hatch glass left by the rear washer, it didn't fit so well but maybe another type would fit there. Are you deleting the rear wiper? Another option is an internal antenna like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Convertible-Classic-Car-interior-radio-AM-FM-aerial-internal-vintage-/300937193481?hash=item4611412809

Guys in genuinely overwhelmed by all of your kind comments, it really means a lot to me coming from some of the guys that have formed a lot of my inspiration. If you look at my car and see a little bit of yours, it's probably no coincidence. You know who you are! As you can tell from my profile I don't live in the uk at the moment so getting the former lump of scrap back on the road has been a bit of an effort. All I can say is that it's the support and seemingly new found enthusiasm for project like this that have driven me to actually complete the car. Thanks to you all! In reality the car is far from perfect but I am now happy that I now have a very solid base to push on from. Hopefully we will be together for many years to come- sorry Joley, as tempting as the offer is for your stunning example  I hope to be back in the uk in the non to distant future and actually get out and drive the car and meet some more of you fine people. Ps thanks for the ideas- keep them coming My other future plans are retrim the recaros in half leather/ half alcantara- no need to guess where they will go to Refurb the wheels back to factory (they are the 350 option wheel) A tune up with noz A new set of blue glass- I have the screen but God knows where I'll get a set for a swb from- keep your eyes out for me A decent wheel alignment Oh and on my xmas list will be some new door rubbers And finally I'll try out some swage tape:thumbup:

Thanks guys If there are any ideas anyone has for a few more finishing touches, shout them out. I'm still undecided if it needs the pinstripe putting back on. Si- your input here is very welcome

Leaking fuel injector ???
My engine bay is very minimalist and I have removed as many (in my opinion) unnecessary parts as possible for both an asthetic and simplification/reliability. I did plenty of research on this obviously before doing so It currently looks like this

Great repost Jeff My old zed suffered from this and you sorted them out :thumbup1:

Leaking fuel injector ???
Thanks for the top tip Jeff Unfortunately in my case I have no fuel damper so it can't be that. I converted my fuel rail to -6 fittings and I'm running an aeromotive FPR with gauge It's also not an external leak but thanks Tom for the warning I guess it has to be either thr FPR, injectors or the check valve at the pump

Leaking fuel injector ???
Hi all As some of you know I recently got my car back on the road. It's running spot on except for a couple of little things that I think are all connected ie a leaking injector(s) Here are the symptoms and issues - the car is hard to start. It turns over more than expected then splutters into life. Then runs perfectly - fuel pressure drops off immediately after stopping the engine. It should hold for hours. I guess this explains the above - one/both of the O2 sensors sit steady at 0.8v at idle- raise the revs a bit and they dance around as they should ( brand new Bosch) - the car smells rich at idle- on the mot test, Co came out around 1.75% (too rich I think) - after giving the car a bit of a Rev at idle a slight misfire develops, then clears in a few mins. Things you should know Almost everything else is brand new/good- loom, gaskets, plugs, timing belt (correctly set) The car is setup correctly- timing, throttle voltage and switch, icv. All deletes are done Consult is clear of codes and as it should be. No air leaks (maybe a few high pressure small ones) Before installing the injectors I ultrasonicaly cleaned them and installed new orings In my haste to get it back together I did not clean out the (new)fuel lines- this already caused a blocked injector which I sorted and it ran well after that. I'm back in Hong Kong now so I can't really go and check up on it but I have lots of time to think about how to get it running perfectly. So maybe I have answered my own question but I'd like a few more opinions. I will probably buy a new set of 550s and get a nos tune when I'm back but I want it spot on first.

Boost leak testing
I too used more than 5 psi as I don't have pcv's so I wasn't worried I probably have a few more to find but the car ran spot on after I blew an intercooler hose off on my first run ( no hose clamp fitted). Next time I'm back I will probably run it up to 15 psi I used a big compressor to do this.

Boost leak testing
After working on mine for a long time to make sure all leaks were gone I managed to get mine to gradually bleed down over about 30 seconds. I'm sure there might be a few very small ones but I was happy enough. To get any more I think I would need a smoke machine

Squeal/scream noise on full boost. Listen to video please.
I remember from my 200sx days that you would get a scream from the exhaust if the turbo go manifold gasket was gone. Maybe not but just a possibility

Thanks for the nice comments guys, still a few bits to go but it would be boring if it was totally finished I'm happy driving everywhere at 200:devil2: does it take much to alter the speedo? I guess this is common, I also need to reset the milage
