General Discussions - 300ZX Related

After a drive last night it may of taken a beating and after starting it back up I noticed it sounded a little louder at the front, so popped the bonnet and tried blipping the throttle and it sounds like it's blowing from under the battery somewhere. I'm assuming this would be the manifold? guessing the gaskets blown out, a bolts snapped or its cracked. Or could it be on the turbo side? Either way anybody had anything similar happen? How much of a challenge is this going to be? I really don't want to take the engine out. Also it's still apparently spitting flames of about 2ft, one side bigger than the other, I'm putting that down to over fuelling but I'm assuming if …

Hello fellow ZedHeads. Came across a 300zx for sale on gumtree (or scumtree as some would call it), ad claims it's 1998 but don't they have the later style bumper. Also mileage of 38000, can this be taken seriously considering the age, origin and price. as you might know this is my first 300zx so after the pain of a fuel tank leak and coming out to a totally dead battery i was not to chuffed but i replaced the battery 2 weeks ago but then left her alone i had been dreading trying to start her up fearing a electrical drain somewhere but ........... kaboom fired up first turn and purred i should be used to wee problems as a ducati owner what was i worrying about mind you her indoors has hinted my baby and i should part company bloody woman .....she has got hobby room ........the kitchen

Well I fitted my hid's at the weekend, one of the many jobs I have put off for ages, but now it has caused a very odd issue. When I don't have my lights on, the auto box selects all gears properly, up and down. When I have my lights on however, it doesn't want to select 1st and pulls away in 2nd ( or that's what it feels like anyway). I can manually select 1st and 2nd with the lights on, so makes me wonder what's going on. Its not the only issue caused either, as mentioned in another thread, my speedo needle also acts erratically when I first switch the lights on ( but this doesn't really bother me too much). Hi been searching ebay for some 100 watt H1's as my 55 watt ones are crap searched all over ebay and all they sell is the single bladed Type, there are twin ones but the metal surround does not look the same as mine, my bulbs have a square notch At one end and a half circle at the top so that it sits snuggly into the housing does anyone know of anywhere I can purchase these? Is there a write up out there that guides through how to replace all the rubber trims (around doors, targas, etc)? Including what products to use to best remove and then set the new ones in place? I've tried searching but can't seem to find one. My Zed leaks quite a bit, mostly from the door windows/targas but I've got replacement rubbers all around so wanted to know if it's a job I can do to a good standard of if it's better to leave it with a professional to do. Hi looking to replace front discs and pads been looking at black diamond discs with either minted pads or ebc don't want to be spending a fortune but at same time still want s decent disc that will last and give good performance when I need it. Any thoughts advice be great. Also I'm looking for a water pump been unable find one maybe looking wrong places chassis gz32 year 1992 march.

Ok, I thought all I needed was high temperature lithium grease, for the input shaft. Then I discovered spline grease, specifically for splines. However, spline grease should not be used on pivot ballpoints, so should I use normal grease here? Then there is the folk, where it connects to the thrust bearing carrier, again, normal grease? I reckon I should use HT lithium grease, or spine grease, on the shaft. Then either lithium, or any normal grease on the pivot and folk. Obviously don't want to have to drop the gearbox and redo this, so any help would be appreciated. :)

Has any body a picture of the back of the bonnet looking into the engine bay while the bonnet is closed? I was doing a few bits yesterday and noticed I can see into the bonnet and if I so choose put my hand down and touch the battery meg terminal. Now this doesn't seam right to me... I've looked and it doesn't seam like anything is missing off the passenger side trim but I could be wrong. Thanks Neil

i've no running issues with my NA recently until today... ... all 3 times i've started it from cold today i've had rough, coughing, spluttering, misfiring for a few minutes no fault codes, running perfect once warmed up.. any suggestions? has had a full service a few months ago (plugs fuel air oil etc) we've had a lot of rain recently but rains never been an issue before, and its been in 3 very different places today. idle is perfect all the time, was only once i opened the throttle.

Took the old impul one off to fit a z1 provided oem style jobber. The short shifter came with it so I took the centre console up and dismantled it all. After putting it all back together it only goes into first and not all the way. Item one Item two Item three So what have I done. Should the ball socket thing be greased in item one. Item one also was pulled up into the socket by item two and seemed to seat itself correctly. I think this is where the problem lies. Item three just the short shifter right? Everything was done up "pretty bloody tight" rather than "red in the face tight" as they were when I took it to bits. …

Ok... so im looking into the idea of a rebuild, and got some quotes for that which im happy with. Im not looking for massive power as i want the car to remain driveable and tbh i haven't got the cash to upgrade all the other stuff that goes with chasing big numbers.
