Hello All, Just to say that this forum really works. Keeping a Z on the road by going through official channels costs a fortune, but with the help of you guy's it's a little more manageable! I just had all new belts (inc. Cam belt) fitted, oil changed (Mobil 1) and the trottle bodies and TPS cleaned. She now purrs along, and finally ticks over at under 1500rpm!!!! Without the suggestion of DavidP for using a mechanic in Harrow I would have been bunging Nissan UK about £800 in labour and parts. From the place in Harrow it was £230!(including 6 spark plugs!!!!) The Z Centre were VERY helpful, I have managed to get hold of a rear bumper side relector, and a …

Yeh.. I know wrong forum, but what the hey. Just got the beast re-insured.. 1990 tt import fully comp: 360 quid ! 200 quid cheaper than last year! anyway, surprised me (31, ipswich) I got a 400 quid quote from firebond too.. seems they are doing imports again on their classic car policy. But the thing is, you loose your no claims after 2 years with firebond, since the classic car policy doens't use it. The 360 quid one, takes account of my 9 years no claims. Anyway, thought I'd pass it on. Company is LifeSure.co.uk stu

Hi all, My mechanic friend was finally going to fit my bushes last saturday, he reckons that they won't fit with the metal sleeves being the same length as the bushes, he thinks the sleeves should be about 1cm shorter than the poly bush to allow it to fit into its housing on the chassis.....the housing would have to be forced apart to fit it in :-( The car is a 1990 Jap TT - are all early Zs the same in there bushing requirements or do I have the wrong part? Is he talking out of his...hat?? This is really annoying - I've been waiting to get it done for one reason or another for four months plus!! Any help appreciated Cheers! RobH

Picked up my Z on Saturday after drooling and waiting over 3 years to be able to afford and justify one, and wow! is all i can say, what a car. I recall seeing someone advertise there's for sale because it was to much of a 'monster', and man they are a hand-full if you don't show them some respect. i had her fish-tailing just pulling onto a round-about, i thought the 200sx was a fair speed but the twin spinnies on the Z are a real kick-in-the-pants. Why my ramblings?, well just to say hi, and add my 2p on what a wonderfull car the Z is..... this is one happy Z owner, now all i need to do is buy some shares in a petrol company..... ps. big thanks to Jeff @ ZedW…

Is it just me or is cleaning alloy wheels a pain. I have the orig 16" alloys and they seem to have a pitted surface - just right for brake dust to stick in! I have tried scrubbing with a standard car brush - it gets the recent stuff off mainly but the old black marks that were on when i bought the car are still there. Has anyone managed to get it off or is it a lost cause?? I am thinking maybe a toothbrush and some liquid - perhaps white spirit?? Barry

How much too? Mine is slipped every time with hard acceleration in 3rd gear or higher. Mods include Mongoose Exhaust, Apex'i Induction, so I dont have any huge BHP. But I would like something that would hold about 400bhp cos I may chip the car. Stuart

I'm concerned my Z may be developing turbo trouble. Recently noticed that the turbo whine is a little louder (figure its an air leak). But just today discovered that off a standstill the turbo doesn't kick in like before. At about 30mph+ rolling, accelerating will boost to about 10. The oil pressure at idle is a little below the first mark, i'd say 20psi. Checked the oil and topped up, no oil leaks seen. Thoughts? [This message has been edited by pvdw (edited 22-09-2002).]

Is it just me or is anyone else finding that the technical forum these days is funnier than the general forum ? I am NOT having a dig at those new to Z ownership asking questions which others might see as obvious (although one person should recently have acquired a fairly red face...). It's more the 'quality' of some of the advice given. I'm not interested in naming names but how about everyone puts their unproven theories onto this thread along with all the technical gems which they heard from a fat bloke down the pub. Then we can take them as read and not post useless stuff onto the technical forum which might lead to someone creating a bigger problem than the…

On Wednesday I asked for a quote on my Z on a limited mileage policy together with a quote for another car. I told Quoteline Direct that it was an import and they put it down as a Fairlady. They quoted a premium on both cars. The one on the other car was very high (over £200 more than Direct Line)so they referred it to the underwriter. I called them back Friday as I had not heard from them and the quote on the other car was still very high. When I asked to go ahead with the Z insurance, only to be told that they do not insure imports. As my new car arrived at the weekend, I was left uninsured on the Z. They could not care less and suggested that I phone up Tesco for a quo…

From howstuffworks website... "A V-8 engine is much smoother because it has eight evenly spaced EXPLOSIONS instead of one big EXPLOSION. Another reason is starting torque. When you start a V-8 engine, you are only driving two cylinders (1 liter) through their compression strokes, but with one big cylinder you would have to compress 4 liters instead." http://www.howstuffworks.com/engine6.htm

Looks like a single dump valve? or am I being stupid and it's something totally different... What would the disadvantages be of doing this? Must be much cheaper if you've already got the hardpipes... :S More pics http://www.thai300zx.com/images/members/yai/Yai.htm From the Thai Z site. http://www.thai300zx.com [This message has been edited by ChrisC (edited 22-09-2002).]
