How I repaired my Exaust for £10

How I repaired my Exaust for £10

My exaust was sounding bad but then it suddenly got very loud, upon examining the underneath I found that both pipes between the Cats and the rear box were both sheared in two. Here is a picture of one of them after I had cleaned it up with a wire brush after I bent back the metal shroud.

I had a look around my local Car bits shop and they had some sheet stainless steel sold under the Gun Gum brand which I got and I decided to also get some jubilee clips, 4 x 40-60 and 2 x 75-95. The only fixing tools used were an electric screw driver and a small wrecking bar.

I cut the stainless steel sheet into two bits as it was too long, (I used the kitchen scissors as my wife was at work – please do not tell her) and I also prised off the spot welded fastenings, with the wrecking bar – I got rid of all of them as I was going to use the jubilee clips. I put the two jubilee clips on very loosly and then I wrapped the padding that came with the repair kit, I then wrapped the steel sheet around the padding. This was then held in place by the 40-60 jubilee clips, (the outside diameter of the exaust pipe was 55mm)

The metal shroud on the exaust pipe was then bent back in place and held on by the big jubilee clip, 75-95.

I repeated the process for the other pipe and here is the final outcome – fixed for about £10!

Nice one. My exhaust is blowing now. frown.gif

But I think its the downpipe and not the exhaust. Anyway, I may need to put your design into action soon.

There were 3 repair kits with metal sheet, one was for repairing at a bend and the other just a smaller version on the one I used. The secret is to remove the jubilee clip that GunGum has spot welded onto the sheet and to use your own jubilee clips, that way you get a good seal.
