General Discussions - 300ZX Related

Hi Just after solving one noise i now have another! (if the body work was not so nice i could kick the S@*T out of it sometimes!) Everytime i start the car from cold i get a fairly loud and slightly squeally/numatic drill sound that rises and drops with the revs. It does this until the has warmed up and then everything seems perfect. I am thinking it could be a bearing or the water pump, has anyones Z suffered from anything like this? Cheers Jim

Ok, I'm looking to chip my car. I currently have an induction kit and larger Trust Intercoolers, no exhaust yet, and am currently running standard boost. I've looked around and the JWT chip seems a safe bet to go for. Can I run a JWT chip with my current mods (in a prelude to changing the exhaust and upping the boost) or am I better changing the exhaust first and Chipping and increasing the boost together at a later date? Right... erm don't get mad.... now this ain't exactly a 300zx question... that's doin' fine as standard and to be quite honest at 14yo I don't think the turbos would take NOS. However I've been thinking of sticking it on my v6 mondeo for ages. And I figured there's bound to be folk on here with experience with Nitrous (whereas on the mondeo groups they seem 'pushed back in their seats' with the incredible 170hp of a standard mondeo v6 (think... getting burned off by an XR2i and you won't be far off with the 'incredible' speed of the standard mondeo.. :-) ) so, thinking of 75hp shot, wet kit. seems like they can be had for 4-500 quid. Plus 150 quid fitting.…

I have recently found out that Nelson used Semi-Synthetic Castrol Magatec Oil 0/40W on my last service. :mad: I have some Castrol RS 10W60 (fully synthetic) which I intend to replace it with. Question: Can I do a straight oil change, or will I need to flush it first? Mike

Hi guys, Has anyone experienced the oil pressure gauge reading extremely low pressure (e.g. 0-10 psi) on a long journey?? Although it was low I don't think that it was correct, as after booting it/turning off the engine for 5 minutes it sprang back to life... Is the gauge known to be tempremental?? Your thoughts... Ben

Ok dont take the pi*s but what is the standard BHP, 0-60, top speed etc times of UK against Imports. Turbo and non turbo. Does anyone know of a website that has a roadtest i can read on 300ZX's or where i can get more info on buying one Cheers Steve i just gotta put the nana in again sorry :dance: :rofl:

Is anyone able to tell me how much it is likely to cost to fit an electronic boost controller, I know it does differ from place to place? They all seem to cost similar amounts to buy but can anyone recommend one inparticular? I guess this is the best thing to do once an exhaust and filter have been sorted? Thanks, Justin :)

Hi guys and girls, Bit down right now as I've had it confirmed the squeal I was hearing in my engine is a dying turbo. Money very tight at the moment, so perhaps I could seek some further advice from you good people. Should turbos be replaced as pairs, and if not do they have to be matched anyway? Obviously they will need to be of similar size and output boost, but will they need to be of identical make? Also what financial damage am I looking at for this? Simon :( :cry:

I purchased some replacement 'glow' dials for my import so that I could have MPH. They arrived today and I have no idea how to fit them as they did not come with instructions. They have a unit that needs wiring to the electrics so that I can choose between blue/green and a dimmer. All the dials have wires attached to them to get the glow to work but I'm a bit stuck on fitting them. If anyone has successfully done this and can offer any tips/instructions I would be very grateful. Cheers Dom

are the stock air filters in a zed readily available anywhere? had a look in halfords and of course they aren't listed. Was wondering if they are used in any other nissans? cheers David

Hi all, Can anyone tell me what actually happens when a turbo blows/fails, or whatever. Will this stop the car from running/starting, or does it just smoke like hell and losec power?? Thanks Paul N

Hi Chaps/esses From what I can make out the Turbo Timer should cut off the engine when it reaches 0!. All though mine just loops back round to the number that was set. ie, set it to 4, clocks down to 0 and then goes back to 4 again. Basicly it is just going in a loop?... It only has two buttons which are on/off and set.. Any Ideas or is this just :xxx: ered?. Cheers.

First point to check if your lights are bad is the the lenses/front glass are clean - if not, start with those.... There's no point generating more light to just lose it in a film of dirt.... trying to test the boost afer fitting 1mm mig tips have a boost gauge(borrowed off a mate) until i get one cant seem to get it to work got some info off tt zs of dallas but cant find right pipe steve:confused: :confused:

Today i put mig tips in my car. 1.0mm. They worked a treat and boost went up to a healthy 1.0bar on my Greddy gauge. Good idea? not sure because it ran fine all day, smooth and powerful, but on the way home (taking it easy for the first time in the day) i started to smell oil. Checked oil pressure and fine, boost fine, temp fine. stopped and there was loads of smoke from under the bonnet. Left it shut for a min incase of fire, then opened the bonnet. oil all over the left hand rear of the engine bay and it was dripping down to smoke off the exhaust. went to check the oil level and found that the dipstick had blown itself out. I currentl own a MR2 tubs and have a 300 TT on the way from Japan. Do you think I will notice much difference in power wither way. I don't know if any of you guys have driven both to have a true idea on what goes quicker and handles better. Justin.

Could turbo's from a RB26DETT be made to fit our engines or would the cost involved for alterations not be worth it, i.e PITA.:slap: :dance:

Hi, I have just purchased a lovely 1990 Manual ZX from Japan. I would like to know how much power it is quoted at. I always thought it was around 280 but I have been told by someone that manual's had more power than auto's, something in the 300 region. Anyone clear this up for me. I also have a upgraded exaust on mine. What sorta power increase can I expect roughly from it? Many thanks, Justin:-)

Guys I just gave the Z some stick (in a sensible responsible way officer) and a short while later noticed that the boost guage is stuck on about +5.......... Any thoughts ? The car still drives fine - if a little ragged on the edge :D Mark
