I've read loads of brake upgrades for the Z's but just what is the best? Looking at the data on the forum, the skyline conversion seems to the best, but I've seen good write ups of people using Tarox 40-groove discs and Ferodo S2000(?) pads. I've got about £500 to lose so what are the options?? I know what people mean about the standard brakes, especially now I've got full boost pressure back!!!! :D Cheers Bruiser

I know there has been much talk about the prop shaft bearing but is there any sure tests i can do to see if this is the culprit of my low tone vibration. Its not disturbing to say the least but you know what its like;once you notice somthing it seems to get worse. I think they call it sycosymatic(if thats how you spell it!!!). Ive checked the wheel bearings; they are ok, and the vibration does'nt come through the steering. Does it cost alot to resolve? Jonce

I went to Longlife exhausts in Walsall today- and I'm getting them to do the exhaust tomorrow. He said £600 including de-catting, which I thought was OK. I just have a nagging feeling that someone recently said you shouldn't de-cat an NA. Is this true? or will I get more power? I read that write-up by MTL and I'll have another look- did you say with an NA you have to be careful with the back pressure. Will de-catting it lower the torque at lower RPMs? Will I end up having to rev it even harder to get it going? If the cats are still there, and that raises the backpressure, does that make the car get more power at lower revs? Tell me if I am totally wrong here The…

Should I be worried? They put the car on the ramp to look at the exhaust, and there was a wee drip of oil at the back of the gearbox. Should I be worried? I know it could have tracked from somewhere, but it just looked like a little at the join. Is it easy to fix? It was light yellow, just wet, about here: There is a cylindrical metal 'thing' just behind and that looks a bit wet too. I am getting very paranoid because the car sees totally jinxed right now. I really would be grateful of any ideas whether it is 'serious' or not. I will be taking it in soon for one of the 'other' problems I am experiencing. So this is what it's like- the real feeling of owning one…

a friend of mine is 30, fully comp on an astra coupe turbo. He has been with Direct line for 2 weeks, then the other day he got an NIP through for 34 in a 30, he paid it etc, then told direct line... They told him he had to pay an extra £78 on top of 524. My understanding was that your first 3 points shouldnt affect your premium, and even if it is up to the inurers, an extra £78 ? thats very steep! Like a muppet hes paid up etc, and having a winge, but its a bit worrying that they think they can do this?

Hi, help it won't start !!! Recently the Z has been temperamental about starting when the engine is warm. It all turns over and sounds ok but it just won’t catch. Open bonnet and wiggle a few things, and it always seemed to start after about 5 mins – until yesterday when it wouldn’t start even after a couple of hrs. I’ve done some searching on the site, and there seems to be a lot of suggestions pointing to Coolant Temp sensor. I did the ECU test, and I’ve got that code now, although when it happened the other day, I didn’t. I tried cleaning of the sensor etc, but no difference, although it does looks a bit of a mess of a connection !! One question I had was “Is th…

these cars just dont give up do they! so i sorted the hose that had come disconnected thanks to you guys but my idle is getting really bad, symptoms: - when the car comes to a stop the revs drop reaaaally low (sometimes less than 400) and most of the time the engine just about stays alive - sometimes it stalls so now iv got into th habit of sticking it in neutral before i stop which i shouldnt have to do cos its a bloody auto - after dropping, the revs rise again but hunt around a bit before finding the magic 700 - even after settling at 700 it sometimes jumps around a little then settles for a while, then jumps and settles etc.... do i just need to d…

in a previous post I said my front wheel was too far forward, well after getting car up all looks ok, no bent or twisted metal etc. I have took some photos of the joint to see if you think it could be faulty or if you can see something else wrong? Thanks

I have been toying with the idea of switching to a turbo, but this forum is littered with horror stories of turbo destruction. My question is, how many of you are driving on the original turbos? and how many miles has the car done JD

I think the standard front wheels on the Zed look naff because their an inch less wide than the rears and their set way too far into the wheel arches. Anyone else agree ? What i propose to do is get hold of a pair of rear wheels and put them on the front. Is this advisable ? Cant forsee any problems apart from rubbing inner wheel arch on full lock. I think this would make the car look miles better.

Dropped my car of at Nissan to get yet another dodgy connection fixed (goddamn I need a new wiring loom) and they gave me an automatic pulsar to drive for the day. Now I understand what all you AT guys are talking about when you say the kick down is real hard and powerful... Oh man, you a r so right

Just won a polished plenum on ebay. How much do you reckon it'd cost to get the thing fitted and how long does it take? Also, my det sensor has gone. Currently has the 1Mohm resistor "fix". Is the det sensor easy to get to with the plenum off?

Do all Z's do this? I've had a TT for 6 days :D and I've only opened it up recently as it's been raining a lot. I've noticed a noise, best described as a howl which lasts for about a second when I floor it and then goes while still at full throttle. It's deeper then turbo noise and as I say, it doesn't last all the time the throttle is buried. I've also notice OEM boost gauge goes right round to last mark, not between 3rd and 4th mark as described in buyers gauge. How can I tell if the car is running more boost then std? Could the noise be related to this, car is std as far as I know. Is there anything wrong or am I an automotive hypochondriac?

The radiator on my zed has been replaced (before I got it) and appears to have a uk spec radiator fitted. On the passenger side the oil cooler is connected to the gearbox (auto) on the drivers side there is nothing connected. Should there be something connected to that side. Cant see any pipes or fittings anywhere that look like they should go there. Regards Kevin

I am soon to convert from auto to manual, getting the parts together at the moment. :hyper: Is it going to be better to take the engine out or leave it in ?? If anyone has a procedure list on how to complete the conversion I would be greatfull. I have done a search but can't find one. Any help and advice about the conversion would be usefull. Cheers Mark

Man, since I decided to keep my car, I am getting some use out of this membership! Right....I have an 89' TT with the small poly spoiler and below that a strip of black vinyl to match the lights. As it's been outside this winter, and it's been cold and wet up here, the sticker has blown and may as well come off. I have noticed a couple of you guys on here have a similar effect with just body colour below the brake light as opposed to the sticker. What I want to know is what can you use to get the vinyl base off? I did a test patch and used Tetroclean engine cleaner, meths, white spirit and none of them got the sh*t off. I have plenty of elbow grease …

Hi All, Right for those of you in the know.... we have a standard japanese TT auto, it had the nismo 300kph speedo, so with a change to standard jap face front, it reads near as damb it accurately in mph!!, so no black box needed and therefore no change to hicas/shift pattern/ steering or other side effects!! yippee... But.... can't go above 110ish due to limiter, so the question is.... can someone burn me/supply a duplicate of the standard chip with the limiter removed only as we are happy with stock set up??? Am I right in thinking this is just a standard cheap rom chip (and socket) that I need burning by those in the know?? or am I missing something more co…
