What is the air flow meter, and what does it do- measure the flow of air I guessing?? Can you get an aftermarket one and if so what does it do for the car? I know where it IS, just not what it's FOR.

I've got myself a UK oil cooler and I understand from searching that I can do a straight swap for my current import one. The only question I have is how much oil will I lose? If there's a pressure switch I'm assuming I'll only lose the contents of the current cooler, then top up after the change? Don't want to do a full change as it's been less than a 1k miles since I changed it.

Hey every time i close the door or boot i create a vacum inside the car. I have had a tailgate conversion and as a result the paint work has started to crack. the only way around this is to close the door or boot with the widow open and close it afterward. I know a couple of other zedders that have had similar problems. is there any way to resolve this without drilling a hole somewhere? :hyper:

I did a search for tailgate creaking, found a tip that said to glue a rubber pad to the existing rubber stopper on the underside of the tailgate. I could not find any rubber anywhere that I could make pads out of, so I stuck one of those self adhesive velcro squares (the fluffy one) to the rubber stopper, and the creak has dissapered! I also coated the rubber seal with Halfords rubber and nylon lubricant, but I'm sure it was the velcro pad that stopped the creak. John

I am aware of the 'loophole' in our MOT flowcharts with regard to emission testing Zeds, however before I bite the bullet and go for a de-cat exhaust, has anyone proven this correct by passing an MOT with a post August 1992 Z? If so, anyone ever been questioned / had dificulties with the MOT tester over it? Might as well make the most of Smithy's stronger turbo seals when I get them ;)

Had a look at Leigh (Friday's) car for high idle today. Just thought I'd share it as it's not something I'd have immediately picked up. To cut a long story short, throttle idle SWITCH was not making, idle at 1700rpm. Turned out the wires were shot, so ran a new pair to the ECU from engine bay, connected them up, started it up and it idled sweet! Oddly enough if you disconnect them when it's been OK it dosen't happen again. Looks as though the ECU maybe needs to see it shut once to ensure it's operating, or it puts the IAAV in the 'cruise' position to stop it stalling or quick throttle closing. Maybe someone who's dissasembled the code can shed some light - Eric??

Not quite a 'Was it You', but I'm going up home soon with the zed (for the first time) and just wondered if there's anyone round Ayr or Glasgow on here. My dad's going to do his nut, because I've not actually told him what car I bought (six months ago). He's a Rover man and likes Sensible motors. Thinks I've wasted too many as it is.

It started a few weeks ago when my wife was driving along and the dreaded stone from hell hit the windscreen causing it to spider. I phoned my insurance and was happy to hear that the would fix it for £60. They arrived today to put it in but when they got the new screen out it was noticed it was blue with a blue sun strip because mine is a jap import the screen is bronze/blue. "not to worry" i was told, i will phone my boss and order the right one. Few minutes go buy and the lad then told me there was a new screen on order but could take upto 6 months. :( I asked him how much and was told £1500 supplied and fitted!!!! but its only going to cost me £60. What im aski…

Wonder if anyone can help. I have a jap 92 TT. I bought from a guy who owned it 5 years, but knew very little about it technically. It was imported with a few mods. HKS drager exh, HKS intake/ HKS Turbo timer/ blitz bovs/ lowered suspension and an electronic gadget called "ACS Air/Flow conditioner system" the brand is "Pivot"- never heard of it. Anyway- the guy had it disconnected, said it was causing some problem (it may have been det'ing- though I don't know) The 2 core cable from it goes to the ECU-. it's been disconnected from the controller unit and the ends twisted together, when I seperate the ends the engine stops. Has anyone any idea what this thing i…

Ok,start at the begining, last week went to the Stenson meet,on way thought it was slipping a tad when going from 2nd to D,later it would not start in P,but all syptoms cleared up as quick as it came, journey home ok,then tuesday it would not go from 2nd to D no matter what, have tried every thing this week, done the Self diagnostic and 9 short flash one long flash, according to Manual that points to Line Pressure Solenoid :( it may be one of a couple of things but this seems more likely, done Voltage test from Solenoid harness connector, resistance should be around 2.5 - 5,i got 3, then within less than a second 0,another thing the ALC red light that gets brighter the more WOT …

My turn for asking for some advise on the Z now, (might even be the first time!) Anyway, the Z nearly didn't pass it MOT becuase of play in the rear rack. Having done a search for this, most previous threads mention the ball joints, but they're fine. Whats happening is, each arm can independantly move in and out of the rack by a few mm. (Picture car up on two poster lift, being held by the chassis, wheels hanging. If you grab ahold of each rear wheel you can see and feel the play - especially when the MOT guy is doing it) (only managed to get a 'pass' because I said, "Oh yeah, the rack just needs bleeding". Was a close one!) Any ideas what may hav…

I have just notice a noise coming from one of the protection plates that sit over the cats on the exhaust. It appears to be rattling at idle, but goes away during hard acceleration. I don't remember anything hitting the underside of the car, so could it be a loose bolt?? The quik-fit knumbskulls told me my cat was knackered and that I'd need a new one which was a main dealer part only and would be expensive. They were more than happy to obtain it for me and fit a new one for a small deposit of £100. Robbing phewkers!!! :xxx: I've had it on the ramps but can see nothing obvious.....any clues??? Oh! it's a full stainless steel mongoose system…
