General Discussions - 300ZX Related

Had a little spill 23 hours after buying a 91 standard jap import TT, playing silly buggers with a roundabout and telegraph poles.... However after getting all the bits i needed, wings etc... I noticed the oil pressure guage is completely not reading (the pointer thing doesnt move at all) However ive driven about 4-500 miles since then and checked the oil regularly. Any ideas? are the sensors prone to damage etc.. Also im driving along without one of the empty plastic boxes under the rh wing and it hisses when the turbos arent spinnin up (some sort of pressure??) Also i hit the telegraph pole sideways (only did a wing!!!) the steering column now has about 1/4 in…

I have just finishing transferring my trusty old engine to my new Z and the tickover is approx 1500 rpm +/- 200 rpm. The only difference is that I've fitted an RPS lightweight flywheel which is 11lbs instead of the stock 22lbs unit - could this be the reason? anyone else had this? Cheers Dave.

car has been standing for about a year but starts first turn of the key, changed the se-nissan maxiflow filters to k&n filters today fired her up great no probs gave her a rev woah!! smoke smoke both exhausts!!!! i havent been able to take the car for a run for over a year only let it idle for 15mins at a time will the smoke clear once i have taken her for a blast ??? also noticed that with engine running i opend the oil filler cap and it was sucking in air is that normal??? there is no smoke at idle only when i rev her up!! exhaust is full of old oil from last year when i blew a piston ring is that what is being blown out, the smoke is black not blue,…

Has anyone got the approx capacity of the gearbox because i dont want to overfill it as i have no sump plug :( :bow: :bow:

Until I get down to Mr Dixon or up to Mr Duff, Im wondering whether anyone can help me. Running 5 psi boost even when I switch the evc 3 on!!! I used to get 15psi - I presume I got a boost leak. It *sounds* like it could be from the rear of the engine (passengers side), but im not sure. I have tried spraying wd40 around the pipes and raising the revs to break vacuum and blow the wd40 but i cant seem to find which pipe *may be split or leaking*. I have felt all around pipes, etc whilst raising revs but cannot feel any blowing from anywhere. Any ideas? What pipes is it likely to be? *An idiot proof drawing or photo would be good* :) Thanks

Hi guys, I have noticed lately that i am having to top up the radiator with water every couple of days by roughly half a pint. The car is not over heating nor is there any bubbles when the engine is ticking over. Any ideas on what i can check next? Cheers Paul

Remember reading somewhere about a wire that you pull in order to reduce emissions in order to get the Zed through the MOT without going to the hassle of reinstalling the cats... Can anyone tell me where it is or which one it is, please? Cheers. :) =Goes off to continue searching.=

I've not used my car much for a few weeks, only really to move it in and out of the garage. It's been running a bit lumpy and yesterday morning when I actually intended to use it to go to work it insisted on running on about 3 1/2 cylinders and coughing petrol out the exhaust. So once again I went to work in the Xantia ... Anyway, last night as a quick test I put on my series II PTU - no difference. So then I swapped the spark plugs from the HKS Iridium to a brand new set of NGK PFR6B-11C's. The originals that came in the car from Japan were PFR6B-11 and are noticably shorter - the same as the HKS ones in fact. Anyway, immediately started first time, ran beautifully…

I just brought an air filter (Blitz copy), off ebay and showed it to my mate who instantly said - "Is that gonna be big enough, because your aiming at 400 hp arent you ?" Would it be advisable for me to get two mushroom filters instead of one if i am aiming for 380 - 400 BHP ? If so do you know anyone that sells a t-piece ? Flashed ma lights and just received a strange look in return?!

Bought my very first Z yesterday and pick it up next Saturday :dance: It's a 'J' '92 2+2 manual TT Fairlady import :bow: The guy I bought if off didn't really know much about it, he got it from his Mrs brother who recently died :cry: He didn't know when the cambelt was last changed, so that would be the first thing that needs doing. I will also change the oil. Is there anything else I should be looking at. Advice please.

Got it all off as you know! Whilst im replacing the water pump and reconditioning the master cylinder etc, thought it was high time i did some tidying under the bonnet, so I've sprayed up all thecam covers etc, which will go back on nicely soon with some smithy hardpipes, laser etched Z plate for the new colour coded rocker cover, new vacuum lines, new slam pannel, fuse box cover and filler cap :D Im also in the process of tidying up the plenium, so should look good hopefully when its all done. Anyways here are some piccies with all cam covers, radiator/fan/pipes etc out and atm. Thought they were good piccies for anyone needing to use them in future to sho…

When I brake the car shake's like anything :( , is this to do with my tracking? As my car pulls to the left alot, OR could it be warped discs. If it's warped disc's how can I tell which one's are warped? cheers, Alastair.

Might be a silly question but i have been on the hks us website and it doesnt even list this?? but would a HKS pully off a Skylark r33 gtr fit a zed?? what i did notice on the website is that certain ones fitted alot of engines?? Went out for a spin , came home and let it tickover for a min, i noticed the revs were gently going up and down between about 550 and 850rpm, very smoothly though. Anyone know why? Thanks,

Quite bizarre this...Not too good at electrics so thought someone out there might be able to help? All instruments work fine but when I give the beastie a bit of wellie the temp guage drops to the bottom as the boost guage rises...power drain I guess but am puzzled as it should do that all the time as the boost guage moves due to the small amounts of current the guages draw (or is it because theese things go so fast that gravity pulls the needle down!!?)

After driving then sitting in traffic for a while my revs will rise from 750 to 950 rpm it was ok a few weeks ago could it be the temp sensor which was bought new may last year?

if I follow the pipe that leads off the downpipes just b4 where the cat would be they go up behind the wheel arch liner with a small metal pipe bent at a right angle- is this the AIV pipe? and if so, if i drill a hole in it will it stop gurgling? btw the car has been de-catted and just has 2 backboxes tnx
