General Discussions - 300ZX Related

Gave the car a real thrashing for 20 mins or so last night but when i parked up and looked left i noticed a faint bit of white smoke coming from below the car, about level with the front wheel (engine still running ). but when i shut off and got out the smoke had gone and all i got was a burning rubber smell. is this my clutch struggling, or my brakes, or something worse?

Someone asked me for a picture of what I'd used so here it is:

Mine 'buzzes' a little and is obviously on its way out...does anyone know if this can be repaired or do I have to buy a new one...ouch.. Know I could get a second hand one but that could be worse than mine!! Your help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi guy's. As you may know I have had a missfire on tickover now for sometime. I have just replaced all the corroded injector and coil pack connectors. Went out for a run and now it's missing all the time no matter the revs. Before it was only missing below about 1500rpm. The problem seems to lie with the centre coil pack on the LH bank because when I take the plug off the top the engine note remains the same. I have also swapped coil packs around to no avail. As I drive the car now under full throttle it seems to stop missing for a second or so every couple of mins. The only thing I haven't tried is the spark plug but I have taken it out and cleaned it up and it seemed ne…

The lovely dealer who sold me my Z back in January has written to me as follows:- Nissan 300 and Mitsubishi GTO both suffer from gearbox overheating as the oil cooler blocks because it is too small. It's a common fault but can be rectified with a modified cooler for £120 + VAT. Is he right? cheers ed :dance:

I think these are probably all caused by the same thing, whatever it is... There's quite loud hissing from somewhere around the the balance bar on the passenger side, at the back of the plenum ish, near where the PRVR vac line comes out. (I've bypassed that by the way.) I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting all the coil packs, so I know what the engine sounds like and how the idle changes - but if I wiggle the harness around that same area something definitely different happens. So I don't think it's just cyl 5/6 coil pack. Especially because there's what sounds like a relay clicking (just the once) and after the click everything seems OK until you wiggle so…

Hi all. Walked into Halfords yesterday and asked for 6 spark plugs for my 300zx NA. Should have seen the look on my face when the nice lady said i wouldn't have a lot of change out of £100 :shock: Does anyone know if there's anywhere i can pick them up cheaper?? Are they cheaper in the states as i'm off there in a couple of months? Cheers

Im sure there was a thread on here the other day about driving another car on third party only insurance ! However i cant find it. Can anyone help me, my mate has 2 supras - he wants me to drive one to a motorshow on sunday and he's driving the other. Problem is the one that im driving he's no longer insured on - but he still owns it ! Am i allowed to drive it Third Party Only ? Im sure on the previous thread someone said that you could drive the car - as long as it was just OWNED by someone else ! Anyone got accurate measurements of diameter, thickness, offset etc. Wondering if the Z33 ones are the same as the american tuners are starting to do cheap replacements.

Bought new F+R discs from 3G Brakes, fitted the rear A OK but the front std width size is 26mm on my 300ZX NA Import, 3G's are 28mm but my calipers will now touch as it appears the maximum they will accept is 26mm. Has anyone else experienced this and I guess its new front calipers I need now but one supplier I spoke to said theirs were aslo max of 26mm (Brake Engineering - Wrexham). Help :rolleyes:

Hi, Ive been told the empty airbox under the wing (the one thats missing from the picture) can just be plugged up. At the moment it hisses, its drawing in air??? apart from when the turbos are kicking in. Can I just plug it up. Ive had a problem with oil pressure lately (it doesnt register anything) but i think that might be the switch. Ive taken off the oil filler cap and ran it and it spits oil everywhere.... Help please as i need to put this back together again... If someone could tell me what the two pipes do Id be most grateful Thanks Sean

I thought my car was detonating - a kind of rattling/crackling sounds at high boost (sound familiar?). Anyway, took it to a garage who said they would put it on a rolling road to confirm what was happening (I had already changed plugs, fuel filter and checked timing with no improvement). They came back and said they didn't even need to put it on the rolling road as they were so convinced that it wasn't detonation. They told me it was the left turbo making the noise. The guy seemed a bit dodgy to me. He told me I should book it in asap as the car was dangerous to drive as there was some oil underneath which could catch fire at any time! My Z has been suffering with high idle probs, anyway i cleaned the throttle bodies and cleaned the connections. When i checked the TPS voltage it was reading 2.25V, it says to turn the TPS CW until you get the right voltage 0.4V - 0.5V, but the voltage does not change. Am i doing something wrong, any help much appriciated.

After you've take off the targa tops, where do you put them, I know they are supposed to go in targa bags (that I havn't got). Do you just put them in the boot :confused:

Picking my very first Z on Saturday :hyper: It's a j spec TT manual '92 The first thing I'm gonna do is drop the oil. Are there any special procedures/precautions I need to take. Should I use a genuine Nissan filter or a pattern part ? Has anyone ever used ZX1 friction reducer in their Z ?

Hi mate, I was looking at trying to retrim the centre pads of me seats, but I dont know if I can get them out as one part or if the lot has to come off? Someone said youd recently re-trimmed yours, and its a fookin good job mate I just saw it so nice one :D Thought Id post it here asking as I have searched TT net and here and cant find any FAQ on how to ake the seat covers or any of it apart, so if you have got some good advice mate, y not FAQ it? I am sure there are loads of Z owners that want to have a go but dont want to wreck them pulling them apart. Cheers Steve

ohhhhh bu**er! just been running engine up after engine out, was just warming up when got a leak so turned off, now leak is cured tryed to start and engine just spins over and wont go! any ideas where to start looking? is there any sensors etc that can cut engine??? please help!!!! steven :mad:

hey guys just refilled power steering and bled by turning lock to lock, but now the hicas light has come on! is this probaly cos air in rear rack??? if so, do i : run engine, open rack bleed nipples till fluid comes through???

Does anyone know whether wheels on a Supra (latest shape) will fit onto a 300zx? There's some nice one's on ebay that i want to bid on - taken off a supra, but the seller says fit's most 5 bolt vehicles and does not specify which. HELP the auction ends soon...!! ScoobyDoo ;)

Apparently, there are three different sizes, the largest (mine) being 1 1/16" bore, though I don't know the other sizes. Also apparently, this size was only used for about a year. (Info from Cassicar automotive) So the question is, what year or chassis numbers had the 1 1/16" BMC? Could anyone do me the favour of checking theirs (the size is cast on the barrel) and helping me plumb the depths of Nissan's parts system? Oh, it's on a 200SX before anyone suggests the obvious! :) Cheers chaps, Billy.

Not by me but my mate with the lowrider. Its got be proper triple plated stuff aswell. And they will need a big vault as its for the bumpers. Cheers for any help.
