Ever since ive had my car the heater force out of the various vents on the car has never blown with any force even though the heater fan is definately blowing at full speed. My air-con has been disconected in the past by a previous owner and there appears to be some ham-fisted attempt at getting the black 'air box ?' out from behind the glove box (the one next to the blower moter & intake), with some damage sustained resulting in some air leaks around the joints. :mac1: I have no errors on the aircon/heater diag and the fan operates correctly on the other tests in the diag modes, also the 'flap/door' behind the middle vent can be seen moving and directing ai…

I have no idea why an orange light called POWER comes on when I (ahem!!) accelerate a little hard coming out of roundabouts. It also is connected to the switch near my auto box changer with A/T written on it and HOLD and POWER. What the "%^"$%! does it all mean? Is it some sort of light to warn you you're about to see your arse?

Got a prob......just fitted my new ptu yesterday and all seemed fine (no more engine cut outs) but today i've noticed a light keeps comming on my dash and iv no idea what it is! it looks like a pic of a tube that is fat in the middle and has 4 sqiggles above it (heat/steam?) this kept coming on and i thought i could here a slight popping sound, and then to top it off as i pulled off at a junction the thing went and cut out on me! does any one have any idea what it could be? Oh and i still getting the juddering when i put my foot down???

Red, targas off, car full... Scout Road over hills near Bolton this weekend - you assumed the viewpoint car park might be open seeing as it was blazing sunshine, same as I did. It was me you shouted "nice car mate" at when you were turning round, and I sort of grunted back because I was concentrating on not stalling (my idle is currently controlled mainly by my right foot  )

After the problems last week, my Z was running seemingly fine all weekend, just with a bit of a rough idle. Today, I started it up, and the revs needle was "bouncing" between almost stalling speed, and about 600 / 700rpm. I drove it about 200yds or so, and it just coughed and spluttered along. After going back under the bonnet and checking the coil pack connections again (which I'm still not sure if they're right) the car won't start. It'll turn over, just not catch. Any suggestions? So far I've cleaned just about all the connectors I can see / reach in the engine bay, reset the ECU, banged my head off several walls etc.

I've been doing some comparisons on Castrol RS 10w-60 and decided to involve John Rowland the Silkolene R & D Chemist in my exercise. I sent him a copy of the tech data sheet for this product and asked him for his thoughts. Here is the answer QUOTE: Simon, First, there is something odd about the Castrol Data Sheet. They claim a ‘CCS’ by which I think they mean a ‘Cold Crank Viscosity’ of 4200cP at -35C. this means, if true, that it passes 0W. 10W just requires less than 7000cP at -25C. Is this a misprint? Anyway, with a VI of 170 it is unlikely that the RS will even pass 10W; I’d like to try it on our test apparatus. In any case, even ho…

Large c-spanners adjust ride height, top allen key slots adjust stiffness, what does the small valve looking thing do on the bottom of the strut, they have a chrome cover that you just undo and it looks exactly like a tyre valve?? many thanks friends

Jacked up my car over the weekend as I was sorting out the excess oil in my car and noticed the the bushes on my tension rod looked a very worn. I know my car has a bad judder, but thought it was the discs. My question is whether to change the bush or the whole tension rod. I know the bushes are cheaper, but isnt the tension rod a DIY job and wouldnt this then make it a cheaper option then getting a garage to fit a bush only? Anybody know how much a tension rod costs and anythig that would make is a non easy fit?

Wanted to gain access to my re-circs today and remember SMW's site having a guide of moving the fan out and up onto the slam panel. I tried this every which way today but couldn't get it past the oil cooler - do Jap cars not have this there hence making it easier or was I just not doing it right? I tried moving the thing every which way I could but it just wouldn't get past it, so gave up and went out for a drive instead.

Spent the best part of my day today fixing a boost leak. Only running 5 psi, I removed the AFM and put a smoke bomb in inlet (made sure it was not touching rubber) then sealed - low and behold 30 secs later smoke comes pluming out from a joint. Sealed - thought all was ok However I have now lost the leaking air chopping sound on boost but Im still only getting 5 psi :( Another leak........... The smoke bomb hasnt found this one yet - gutted

None of my brake lights are working... It's not the fuses, checked all of them under the accel and under the bonnet. On investigation, no power is getting to the fuse under the bonnet at all when the brake is depressed (like me at the mo!). I'm baffled? Any ideas what happens between the brake pedal and the fuse? Does the brake pedal have a switch on it, or is it a pressure switch to do with the hydraulics? Any advice, info, guesses etc would be much appreciated please guys and gals from the fountains of knowledge on here (which is why I paid my £20) Cheers, David

Just got the car back from the sprayers and 2 probs 1/no mesh can fit in the centre under the no plate due to how flexible it is behind so my mate thinks i can get mesh to fit99spec :) 2/on removing the badly damaged bomex bumper there isent no where to fix the original splash guard that sits below the the air-con rad intercoolers,is it going to cause damage from stone chips rain water etc :( 3/one more thing is it ilegal to fit a small no plate the same size as james300 for EG. sorry to go on but its better than posting 2 or 3 greg

 I'm getting a leak, particularly on the passengers side, and particularly when I brake. As my wife sits there most of the time I need to do something. Is is possible to get and replace the seals because they do look a bit squashed, particularly at the front? It's so bad that, in the car wash, I have to hold a rag up to stop the water!! Chris Davies N/A J Spec Black, subaqua carpetting! and totally new to the 300zx

Thanks everyone for all the feedback received on the last thread I posted and I hope it was at the least an "eye-opener" for some. I thought it would be a good idea to keep details of any advice given and a list of recommendations somewhere on this page (hopefully an admin will make it a sticky at some point so that it is easily found). Looking at my comments so far, these are the ones that I feel belong in here, if you have any others then please contribute or ask futher questions which hopefully will make this an interesting FAQ thread one day. Quotes so far: Oilman c/o John Rowland (Silkolene/Fuchs R&D Chemist) So, the chemistry of “synthe…
