Any tips on undoing the bolts etc. Any preferred tools? Had a go using my 3/8th socket set, but only managed to loosen 1 out of 6 bolts! (down pipe to de-cat pipe) Rather spend the cash on getting the right tools so I can reuse them than paying a garage for the labour.

I have two questions: 1) Can you fit a TT auto j-spec rear diff to a non turbo version? 2) I hear that many 300ZX owners like to fit non Turbo rear diffs to their vehicles as it is meant to give the vehicle better performance. True or False. Thank you for your comments in advance

passenger side of the engine, right by the balance bar is what looks like a big bolt into the plunum with a little metal pipe. this is connected to some tubing that goes down by the battery. i pulled of the rubber pipe and the metal pipe a black sludgy oil in it. is this summat to do with the pcv and is it supposed to have oil in it.

my gear change from 1st to 2nd has started to get worse, even to the point where it wont change up to 2nd on full throttle, just bounce of the rev limiter. all other gear changes are fine. is this a gearbox rebuild. if so i guess she has to go as im fed up with it, i dont mind spending money on a car but 3 grand in 4 months and she worse than before is beyond me.

Have a look at the quote below, 2.7hp for each lb lost from the crank?? that would mean by fitting the kit from Smithy you should see over 27HP increase at the crank?? Any tech heads capable of elaborating on this a big? in a real world situation do you really see increases like this? Cheers Dave From http://www.dragracing.com/product.asp?prodid=2333&catid=22 Unorthodox Racing aluminum crank pulleys on average can provide gains of 5 to 14 HP and 4 to 12 lbs.-ft. on normally aspirated engines and 8 to 18 HP and 8 to 14 lbs.-ft. on forced induction engines. Higher gains are possible. For example, a Nissan 300ZX twin-turbo saw gains as high …

When I put my foot down (obviously not very often and then only when absolutely safe to do so) there is sometimes a clonk or two that seems to come from the rear of the gearbos or maybe the diff area. It's not a major issue. It is only when I accelerate hard. Any ideas as to the cause. IT's a 91 J Spec auto NA. Are there any rubber bushes down that end of the car? Chris Davies F**king 'opeless with the spanners, but keen non the less

my car seems to be loosing power after about 20 mins and it looks by using my aftermarket guage to be going into safety. now ive had a full service with new plugs etc and this hasnt fixed it. im runnin on optimax fuel and this hasnt fixed it. im not sure when its going into saftey boost but i think its when the engine is put under a bit more strain, ie on hills and when booting it. i can drive her on the motorway with no probs but b roads seem to kill power. i have a conzult i can plug in but am unsure exactly what i should be looking for to work this one out. have done ecu test and code 55.

Red leader flashed (just as well you did cos I was half asleep) - nice paint job by the way, black one - sorry I almost missed you as I wasn't expecting two!! Hope you saw me waving furiously after you'd gone past.

Will the o/s turbo fit on the n/s???? I realise the down pipes are sided as well as the turbo feed pipes but are the basic turbo units interchangeable from side to side??? Had a look while the engine was out the oil and water pipes look in the same position. Also the waste gate valves look in the same position as well can this be done???? Thanks in advance, Alan...........

Just fitted the engine back in the car and the passenger side is smoking badly out the exhaust. The thing is, not all the time. It is an 89 J.I. TT auto. It does it on start up from cold then, when the engine reaches temp and you start it back up, its ok !! Turn it off, start it up and sometimes it smokes and sometimes it doesnt, Car is still up on axle stands by the way and has not been road tested yet. Also, and heres the best bit Spotted a petrol leak dripping from the passenger side turbo !! Checked all around the fuel lines, IAC valve, injectors and injector rails and nowt  Last but not least, sometimes she drops a cylinder or 2 and when you swi…

HI all, I have been viewing around a few 300zx TT UK spec 90- 92’s targa’s and I can’t really help but to keep thinking of the problem that has killed off a few of my previous car of around the same age, “Floor/ Sills / bodywork etc, Corroded and holed to excess” sound familiar to anyone?? My question for the owners of 300zx’s around this age bracket is that have your car’s need to go under the torch for a bit of touch up?? Thanks

Hi folks I was on my way to stay with friends for the weekend in Sale, near Manchester, and after three quarters of the way the car went very strange. It would struggle to maintain power and increase speed. The car whilst in motion would started to chudder when I put my foot down the gas pedal. It doesn't make any difference whether I'm in overdrive mode or not. After a while I would have to stop the car. When stopped, the car iddles erratically and eventually cuts out. Dave C gave me a few possible causes and ways solve it but unfortunately it hasn't done the trick. All I can be sure of at the moment is that the car starts having problems when the rev…

  25. WOuld you believe it? My previously reliable mechanic has just effed off to France for week. With no notice. When I went to see him yesterday at 3pm, he said "It'll be ready Tuesday or Wed." Except sometime between then and this morning, he's p*ssed off. Leaving my engine in the middle of replacing the knock sensor. All the top bits of the engine have been removed. Is there anyone out there who can (or knows a man who can) reassemble it - and here's the key bit - by the end of next week Fri 27th Aug? For money, of course... Bit of a tall order I know - but you can't blame me for trying!
