So the previous owner of my Z had a HKS EVC-S boost controller fitted. And I've been playing with the setting recently and am really not sure what I'm doing. I found this on the net: Off Set Value: 0-100%. as it is increased, boost value increases. (I get this) Response Value: 0-100%. as it is increased boost rises faster. (I get this, although a little confused by the following) tends to cause hunter/overboosting and vice versa Over Boost Value: 0-36psi. once boost exceeds this value, control returns to normal mode (I read somewhere else that the over boost value is the pressure level before the boost controller takes over from the original solenoid (thin…

Sometimes it seems that the first thing anyone does to an auto is stuff a manual box from a breaker of unknown parentage in it (and, of course, parts like that are coming from an impeccably maintained donor car). So why would anyone keep an auto - and an NA one at that? Well, let me start by saying my favourite 300 is a TT Manual. But with a London daily commute, the petrol consumption was expensive and the heat under the bonnet in everyday's traffic jam A40/Hanger Lane nightmare wasn't doing the loom, hoses etc any favours. Plus a damaged left knee was finding the same traffic jams a bitch. Mr F had some words of wisdom along the lines of "there's less to go wr…

A benefit of proper maintenance - thanks, Ben and Eurospec - another year, another MOT. Look at all those advisories :D Plus shiny new front Brembos for less than half the price of Nissan. So what with that and the new cambelt, tensioners and whatnot, I think I mght be stuck with the old girl for a few thousand more miles yet. The joy of stock!

Just a quick consensus required really. I have just removed a set of Gaz coilovers from the Zed and was wondering how much they would be worth? They are in ok condition but the rears felt really hard - even when adjusted to the softest setting. Great for going around a corner, but not when living on a road with speed bumps!! Pictures as below: And - Thanks, Greg

Since I re-taxed and started using the Zed again this month (after a winter hibernation), when cold, and for the first 3-5 miles of town driving, it seems, under gentle acceleration to hesitate at just under 2k revs, for a few seconds, as if misfiring, and will continue unless I change gear or put the foot on the accelerator, which seems to overcome it and is then fine..until the next acceleration. Once warm, its not there, so my obvious thoughts are something is sticking or restricting flow of either fuel or air. Its a new issue that I can only guess has arisen from being off the road for five months. Any thoughts?

Got the Z out this morning and as soon as I started her up the PAS fluid start leaking. Not had a chance to look at it yet but appears to be coming form a central point under the car. Last thing I needed after the cam tensioner went on my lexus and has killed it! Just after some pointers on where to start looking for the leak. Can't say I am certain where the PAS pump actually is to check it. Cars!!! :cursing:

I have some play on the NSR wheel, wobble when you hold the wheel at 3 and 9 o clock position and shake it. There is no wobble vertically. The play isn't from the outer ball joints, but from either the inner arm joint or the rack itself. Can the rack itself have play or will it just be the inner arm joint and will this play/wobble on the wheel cause a vibration at speed? Thanks Guys...

Hello everyone, None of my lights are currently working, appart from my main beams, they come on when I go to switch my dipped beam on and will not switch off, unless I switch to side lights or off altogether. The indicators, interior and brakes work fine, just my side lights, dipped and dash lights do not work. I have done some modifications of late stripping the car of interior appart from dash. I believe that I might have disconnected something on the lighting circuit and left it and it is shorting on the body causing the lighting circuit to stay off. No fuses are blown, checked that already. I think the reason the mains come on instead of dip bea…

Like buses, 3 came along all at once! A new chip from Noel, some bits that JoelyP managed to rescure from MJP for me and finally a nice big package from Z1 arrived today. I have been running solid Midori style suspension components from Powertrix for the last 8 or 9 years and they're just too harsh for me, they've also caused a lot of my standard bushes to deteriorate at quite a rate of knots, so I've decided to rebuild everything. One of my current KYB front shocks seem to have shat its pants and wrecked one of the rubber strut top mount bushings, so I'm just going to replace EVERYTHING. No more solid joints! YAY! All the bushings on the rear knuckles are to be…

Hi guys - hope everyone is well and sorry for your loss of Roobarb. My mechanic has advised that I need a new master brake cylinder. Having had a quick look on Ebay, I see there's a few different models. Could anyone please advise which one I need for my J reg Jap import 1991 300ZX Fairlady (automatic if it makes a difference - sorry, I know very little about mechanics and rely on you guys for help :) ) Also, any advice on where I should get this from, which is best, and how much I should expect to pay? Is there a part number? Or bore size? Thanks in advance for your help as always - The Beast is still running well for the 15 years I've owned it as a resu…

On Saturday pulled off M20 into car park started to reverse & got strange noise from rear wheel passenger side. Put it up on stands Sunday & ran it forwards & reverse, no strange sounds. Back on the road today the noise is back & sounds worse when slowing down! Am I thinking wheel bearing? Not rear diff! Any mechanics tell me how can I test if it is! Art
