tappet noise is quite common... would have thought that top and bottom bearing failure would be apparent all the time, not just over certain revs.... UK specs are maped for 95 i think so it shouldnt be detting... I'd do an oil change. Check the old oil for any signs of debris. If you're really unlucky you could find bits of shell in the old oil :( If all'l ok, put a good quality oil back in like Silkolene ProS and see if she quietens down. Fingers crossed for you bud!

^^^ what he asks ^^^ and could they be responsible for a rattle that comes out as the engine is warming up. It's not there at first for about 5 minutes then it starts to rattle untill engine is propper warm. Sounds like something knocking the underside of the plastic throttle cable cover...?

My ex-boss was changing the coolant on his company VX astra TD. As he was filling it back up he found a hose that didn't seem to have any water in it, so he dissconected the hose clip. pulled it off and filled it with water and anti-freeze.... It was one of the intercooler hoses... Silly twat!
