What is the most stupid thing you did to your Z

Recommended Posts

What "um-derrrrrrrr!" moments have you had with your Z, or any other car?

Tell your story.

I have 2, one Z related one not.

After the first rebuild, we (my dad and I) start up the engine for the first time, and it started in 1 second. Yay! We where so proud, and we left it ticking over. After about 3 mins, it was stuggling, and it got worse and worse until it died. Thinking it had melted, we checked everything for over a hour but we didnt know why it was not not even turning over.

We asked a mechanic neighbour to come and help and we told him what happened.

"Right" he thought for 10 seconds. "Have you connected the alternator?"

It was then the penny dropped.

Also when I was about 2 or 3, my dad fixed a car of a neighbour, and also painted it a nice mint green. (This was the early eighties and and the green was the original colour) While waiting for the first coat to drie he decided to paint the wheels silver. Alloys where a not common those days so cleaning your wheels and painting them make the car look nice. Being so small I was in awe of my dad and wanted to help. While having a rest I appeared from around the other side of the car with a paint brush dripping with silver paint and told him "I finished painting the car"

In a panic my dad went to the other side of the car to see that I had painted virtuall half the car in silver paint. he had to strip it all off and start again. He wasnt happy.

I have a bud whos brother let his little boy wash his car with daddys new jet washer.. after about an hour he went outside to find one half of his car stripped to the bare metal.

The jet washer was still sitting in the garage but the space next to it where his portable sandblaster was spoke volumes!!!!

I bled my brakes last night but decided to put my slotted brakes on the other way around at the same time (just bought some front brembo discs and in the instructions shows the correct way to put slotted discs on). Anyway when I removed the rear drivers disc I noticed a squashed a ciggy end inbetween the disc and the hub :p . Found it funny. I work on cars like a red-neck

The first one for me not zed related, when i was 18, i had a lotus sunbeam, drove to my new job in a suit, pulled into the carpark and found a space, slipped on the accelrator, and took out a conncrete bollard that was stopping you from falling over a 3ft wall. with the front wheels now over the wall and 3ft lower, the rear wheels were off the ground, (rear wheel drive) so i put a trolley jack under the engine onto the subframe to try and level the rear wheels, whilst jacking a bit more, the jack slipped and went straight through the bottom of the sump. So now coverd in oil in my suit, the car was still stuck, and the jack was wedged in big time. I didnt work there very long.

2nd

Was rebuilding my old rover 220 trubo engine, and draining the petrol tank, so with engine bits everywhere, and 2-3 ice cream tubs of petrol, i began working on the rebuild. Unfortunatly i smoke, dropped the fag into one of the the tubs, all of them went up, within seconds, the engine hoses had also caught fire, this then crept towards my fence and a big green conifer (next doors). WHOOSH everything was now well on fire, i had to run to get the garden hose, but forgot i had cut the end with the tap connector to drain the fuel.

A few minutes later the fire brigade arrived, and put out the hedge, fence and the engine.

I must stop working on bloody cars. I feel sometimes like the guy in the Kenny Everett Show, Reg Prescott DIY fan. lol

Gonna get pelters for this, but here goes. Never told anyone this before !

Parked my Zed up at a nice jaunty angle,

Took some fantastic photos,

All angles, front, rear etc, etc.

Decided it would look good with the roofs off !

Roofs removed, some nice photos etc.

Stepped back to take another shot, and, yup, you guessed.

Stood on one of the Targa`s and broke it !! :xxx:

Thank god for black plastic bin liners !! :D

Guest lets drift

Okay here's mine get ready to laugh

I pick up my Zed and to drive it home for the first time it only has a drop of petrol in it so i stop at the garage to fill it up. Turn off the engine and try to take the key out of the ignition. There I am fighting with it and going all red in the face and feeling a complete idot. In the end I ring up Fuzzball from whom I've just bought it from, with help please I cann't get the key out. :o :o

He's very good and doesn't laugh and tells me the secret bottum to release the key.DOH :headvswal :headvswal

LOL - reminded me of the first day I got a MR2 T-bar. Took my sister out for a spin after demonstrating the removable T-tops. Put my foot down to scare the bejesus out of her and my driver's side panel flew off, crunched on the wing and smashed on the road :(

I'd forgotten to fasten the panel :slap: My sister still reminds me about this

Drove around with a bin liner on for a couple of days till I could get a new one from my Toyota dealer. Did I look cool in my new motor?

Steve :)

Not Zed related. and not me related, but still funny !!

My sister in law had a friend, school treacher by the way, who had an old Peugeot, not sure of the model, but going back 15 years or so.

Once she had driven 3 miles to her school, the car kept spluttering and cutting out, so she phoned the AA.

They sent somebody out and examined the car, what do you think their resonse was ??

Madam, that thing you hang your handbag on is the choke lever, and should be pushed in when the car has warmed up !! :D

True story !!

Yeah I heard the handbag on the choke too.

There is a VW garage in Wigan on a one way system. I think at least 3 times I have seen in the paper people turning out of the one way system the wrong way, hitting a car or truck head on and writing it off.

Luckly there have never been any serious injuries.

I removed my radiator a while back and when I replaced it I put the two oil pipes at the bottom back on I got them the wrong way round, needless to say a short drive later resulted in the pipes being forced off and the gearbox oil emptying all over a road in Salisbury! Fortunately no damage done, just lost all drive :D
