  1. Blimey, that's a bit confusing and I think dangerous. DOT 5.1 is OK but DOT 5 is not. Why do these manufacturers play silly buggers with specs like that. I know it would probably all be explained in the small print on the label, but who reads all of that before buying. I wonder if that was why this chap took matters into his own hands. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_west/5110270.stm
  2. Its held inside so no brollies required. Your getting confused you old fart with the Bath & West Agricultural show which has all them walking steaks, lamb chops and pork sausages around in pens. ;)
  3. I shall be going on the sunday anyway, sadly without the Zed as it is in bits. You can certainly put me down.
  4. To my knowledge this is still going ahead, I received a flier from National exhibitions only last week regarding buying tickets over the net. If it was cancelled, surely they would send out another notice.
  5. Cheers Dave, I was also wondering when my subscription ran out. I logged in the other day on someone else machine, and although it accepted my login, it stated that I could not reply or post anything. I then thought it was out, but when I got home it was all OK again.
  6. If you can track down the make / model you should be able still get a wheel. A good place to try is TSW in Clevedon, nr Bristol. They turnover such a large quantity of wheels, ultimately they end up with odd rims spare, some may have a nick in the rim where it has hit by another rim whilst in store, but you could also get that sorted at the same time. They look a nice design of rims and typically of those imported from Eastern block countries where they only put one coat of laquer on them.
  7. About a second opinion ?
  8. I have drove a Zed fitted with 350Z racing discs which are a larger diameter and entails a block/bracket being fitted to move the caliper out from its original mounting, and the difference is fantastic, even tho' it only moves out by 35mm. Definitely a mod worth doing especially if you source the discs from the US.
  9. Is it only apparent when under pressure or all the time. If under pressure, it could be a piston ring broke and that would also cause the smoking.
  10. Just about Glenn including stopping for a breakfast baguette and coffee. I think he is seriously mad, all the time he was working on it he was laughing and joking. He definitely needs to see a shrink. It is such a sh*t job, I would rather put ointment on piles.
  11. My car is fitted with the HKS F-CON plus the R-VIC boost controller and with the current problems is knocking out 386 bhp as per the last rolling road day. Now its been stripped and we found a host of problems which will of course be sorted on rebuild, even with standard turbos and injectors, I reckon it will reach 400 bhp, plus it is fairly good on juice. Watch this space, I will post up when completed and start pushing for another RR day.
  12. Well, the motor in the Zed has been making a tapping noise for some time now and we (Jimmer) and me did not think it was just tappets. So I have kept on driving it until it got worse. It was mentioned by Jimmer that it now sounded 'SERIOUS' and that I should stop driving as it could go 'BANG' in a rather big way. So this morning he popped over and with me holding the light, he proceeded to remove my engine. What a journey it was, there was so much wrong with it that it has cheered me up. It has been overfueling for ages but because the tuning was done by Owen Developments of Oxford, it really meant that it should go back to them. I live in Bristol and it is a toy so there was no great hurry to go through the rigmoral of taking up to Oxford and letting them sort it out. It still drove well but occasionally shot flames out the back which at night looked spectacular. A bit like Batman. Strangely it was still good on petrol returning 20 -25 mpg. As I have been spouting on here, be prepared for additional costs once you start stripping and my old jamjar is no exception. Both the engine mounts are well fubarred and the RPS clutch is on its last legs. I have yet to find the cause of the tapping noise but I suspect a broken ring. The rest will be stripped shortly to confirm this. Meanwhile here are some pictures of todays proceedings.
  13. I like the name plate on the dash 'CESAR', they make dog food don't they? Very apt.
  14. Come on Dave, own up, it's the conversion you've been doing to your shortie and you are now testing the water whether it's OK or not.
  15. Whoa, that is bad. My garage was burgled over christmas too and they took my tools and a generator, that pissed me right off, but looking at what they did to you, I escaped lightly. Absolute scumbags and should be put down.
  16. Your referring standard ones Dave are you, but surely you would if you have HID's fitted.
  17. I had a similsr problem on a previous car and thought the problem was either the fuel pump, the ECU or the fuel pump relay and through the generosity of Zedworld who supplied me all the replacements parts on a sale or return setup, I was able to replace each part in turn to check them. It turned out that they were all OK and the problem stemmed from a bad connection between the PTU and the CAS. The fuel pump system will not power up unless the ignition system is also fully powered up, and hence my problem. If you remove the CAS but keep it wired up electrically, and turn on the ignition, as you rotate the CAS spindle you should be able to hear the injectors firing and the fuel surging through the system, you might possibly hear the pump running but it is at the rear of the car. My fault was intermitent due to a bad connection and ended being recoverd twice before I finally sorted it.
  18. And that is if Jeff does not find other problems along the way. Jeff is a top Zed man but as has been stated before, these cars are 15 odd years old and over engineered so there is plenty to go wrong especially when the car has been standing for a long period. I always mentally add 20% to quotes for work on a Zed because of that and the extra funds are usually required. I assume Jeff has also carried out a pre MoT test which as we all know can be an expensive job of these.
  19. The number plate is worth a fortune on its own.
  20. The rust patch on the inner wing should be a concern. From experience once you start cleaning it up ready for welding, that word 'small' gets smaller and turns into 'big', job that is. Suspension out and inner wing mounted items removed to effect a good repair. Is this car better than your last Zed that you broke, or by the sounds of it worst. Your not having much luck Marcus by the sounds of it. Out of the frying pan into the fire springs to mind.
  21. Does anyone know the purpose of the rubber/plastic strip. ?
  22. I think they done OK,.....well if compared to George Bush.
  23. I started flying lessons many years ago but sadly packed it in before qualifying for a PPL but would love to be a pilot. If you think driving a Zed is exciting, give flying a go, it is superb, no traffic jams, no traffic lights and no speed cameras, but of course there are other hazards which can end in death. No different from a Zed then.
  24. As someone has already stated, it is a Sierra which is Spanish for 'rust'. It a shame because the 4x4 Cosworth is a superb drive, and even the 2.9 engined standard 4x4 model was cracking, but you just don't see many around now.
