New Road Tax rules arriving this April..........sweet.
I won't argue, some of my friends don't make the best decisions much like me sometimes. It's good that there are good deals out there, it just seems there are many bad ones. Much like many things in life I guess! My dad's friends wife had a vauxhall astra on finance, took it in for a service and walked out with that new convertible thing. When asked why she bought it by the husband, she said because it had a 67 plate! [emoji38] Sent from my TA-1012 using Tapatalk

It would stop people driving around with no tax, although I don't enjoy paying £1.18/litre... It was 72p/litre when I learnt to drive... Sent from my TA-1012 using Tapatalk

It was so much easier (and better?) when it was based on engine size. Also when it was on engine size it was loosly based on emissions anyway because 1.2L is going to give out less than a big V8. I dont understand this buying new cars thing anyway. A friend has just bought a brand new Seat Ibiza. He payed about £25K for it at something like £300/month. He is locked in for 4 years and doesnt own the car. At the end of the 4 years he has to pay something like £10,000 to buy the car. Also during the 4 years he has to get it serviced at Seat, if it goes anywhere else, there is a financial forfeit, same if he goes over his annual mileage. He still has to tax it, insure it and MOT it in the final year. To me it just seems like a con, especially as most new cars loose 20%-30% of their value when you drive them off the forecourt. All my cars I own, I own outright. If I ever get into financial problems, I can at least sell one (The wifes TT ofcourse, the Nissans would never get sold!) When I learnt to drive you bought a cheap crappy car, one because the insurance was high, two because if you crashed it (we all do when we are young) it didnt matter. Maybe I am missing something but everyone seems to want/need/have a new car on the latest year plate (or a personal plate). A girl at work said she NEEDED a new Corsa VXR. She pays £359/month and her insurance, get this, is £2900  She is on a 4 day rota, but works 6 days to pay for the car! I know I got side tracked here, but to me it makes more sense to buy an old car (pre tax changes 2002-ish) cheaper tax, less money to buy as in you can buy it and own it yourself as an asset and as long as its maintained properly, it wont break down regulary. My black nissan is on 209K (admittedly a mixture of KMs and Miles) but in the 3 years I have owned it, its broken down once...in france....and took 3 weeks for it to come back.....but thats what the AA are for! I drove 45K miles last year and it always seems to be new cars at the side of the road awaiting rescue. Can someone shed some light on this? Is it easier to have a dealer car? Services are better? At the end of the 4 years are you paying less than if you bought the car with cash? I dont understand why people do it? To me it makes more sense to take out a loan, buy the car and repay the loan. At least you own the car outright. Even better, get a loan, buy a 2nd hand one with 10K on the clock from AVIS and you will save 1000s...

Also the high tax is for the first year that the car is on the road, then drops down I believe. The Example I saw was a new range rover would be over £2000 for the first year then £700 something onwards

Worst tunes/songs
We have yet to have kids, trying, but no luck yet. However after what I have seen on my buses I wonder why people want them sometimes...I also wonder why some people are allowed to have them! I also should add that anything by Justin beiber needs to be on this list/thread! Sent from my TA-1012 using Tapatalk

For all those that like a we drink
In 2014 I took 16 Canadians around Scotland on a tour for 2 weeks. It was a really good time, but as part of the trip we visited many many distilleries, Glenturret, Talisker, Oban, Edradour to name but a few... I never liked whisky until that trip, we had so many tasting sessions and so many of us bought a bottle for the road, that now I can drink it quite happily. The alcohol is clear when first distilled and its the aging process in the barrel that colours it, Different barrels give different tastes, smells and colours (just like tom said above) but it goes further than that; the type, construction, material and what was previously stored in the barrel all affect the taste, smell and colour. So for example, using a cherrywood barrel, that previously had a Spanish wine in it will taste different to using an oak barrel from the states that had a bourbon stored in it. Also bear in mind the type of grains they use and even the freshness of the spring water changes it all! Out of the 12 distilleries we visited, I learnt that I dont like blends, only single malts for me and that my favourites are Edradour 10 years and Talisker 25 years (although thats £250/bottle!). I prefer my whisky on ice with a splash of water... Going on a few distillery tours is well worth it, you get to see how its made and the differences between each place/company and of course the tasting after! The definition of a scotch was changed in 2009 (many of the distilleries were very strong feeling about this as there had been cheap scotches being made around the world and flooding the market) As of 23 November 2009, the Scotch Whisky Regulations 2009 (SWR) define and regulate the production, labelling, packaging as well as the advertising of Scotch whisky in the United Kingdom. They replace previous regulations that focused solely on production. International trade agreements have the effect of making some provisions of the SWR apply in various other countries as well as in the UK. The SWR define "Scotch whisky" as whisky that is: 1) Produced at a distillery in Scotland from water and malted barley (to which only whole grains of other cereals may be added) all of which have been: - Processed at that distillery into a mash - Converted at that distillery to a fermentable substrate only by endogenous enzyme systems - Fermented at that distillery only by adding yeast - Distilled at an alcoholic strength by volume of less than 94.8% (190 US proof) 2) Wholly matured in an excise warehouse in Scotland in oak casks of a capacity not exceeding 700 litres (185 US gal; 154 imp gal) for at least three years 3) Retaining the colour, aroma, and taste of the raw materials used in, and the method of, its production and maturation 4) Containing no added substances, other than water and plain (E150A) caramel colouring 5) Comprising a minimum alcoholic strength by volume of 40% (80 US proof)

Sturminster Newton Meeting
Yesterday, I met up with my dad and friend in his TVR for a meet and drive around Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire. Was really good fun! Car was one of 5 other jap cars (out of over 100 cars) and got many looks and comments! It was a nice cruise out, just shame about the weather! Leaving the car park was good fun. Loads of people were lining the pavements around Stur and it felt like starting a gumball rally! Lots of people taking pictures and cheering. I gave them a couple of revs and a wheel spin or two

Favourite song/Songs
I grew up on rock and metal. For me, Tool has one of the best drummers out there and they come up with gems like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiR1hmpk-x4 A perfect circle is another good band created by the lead singer of Tool: Nothing beats my other favourite band, 2nd best drummer ever: I have one of the widest collections of music and love trance, this is by far the best dance song ever made: Motown is excellent for a chillout session/party and this is one of my favourites: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CycTQ29ikAA And finally one of the best bands ever with one of my favourite songs, close your eyes, whack it up to 11 and pretend you are flying:
