what sort of £££ is associated with swapping the seals? Any idea of other symptoms? (ie will the smoking stop when warmed up, or when driving hard?) sorry to semi-hijack

intercoolers
In my previous car (200sx s14) everyone raved all the time about swapping out intercoolers, getting big FMIC and uprated wing coolers etc.. doesnt seem to be such a flavour for this on zeds, yet the coolers appear very small to me (smaller than my s14 stock one was i think). Any ideas why that is? and also would a pair of s14 stock wing coolers be better than stock zed ones if your running towards 15 psi thanks andy

Sidelights died....
thanks I will have a look... maybe pull the relay and get a more beefy one... am i right in saying that relays are better mounted in an upright position and not just bodged into a space as well? maybe something i can sort... any ideas for the sort of rating i should be looking at (not the alarm as that only flashes the indicators and was cat1 installed...)

Sidelights died....
I own mattys old zed whcih is a nice car with 99 spec rear lights .. a while ago I lost the use of sidelights (and all associated systems ie rear lights and dash lighting) but the headlights worked fine. Of course it was dark and I was in a contra flow with the feds a few cars behind so couldnt limp home. Phoned Mr rac and he came out and after farting about for 20 mins found an aftermarket relay fitted into the sidelight system that had stuck in (what he said was on but clearly he meant OFF) position. He disconnected the power to the relay it clicked and then reconnected it and it worked. He swapped the relay and of I was on my way. Its Happend again, (at least same symptoms), but I dont understand why the relay is there. Its not a standard relay as far as I can tell (its by the drivers footwell near the door arch and just loose with the wires supporting it and insulating tape on some of the wires..) . Im unsure why it had been fitted, it clearly has a feed to the ICE as it causes the lights to dim on the stereo, but is it necessary for the 99 spec rear lights? Any suggestions on how I can prevent this happening again? I was thinking if nothing else fitting an in-line reset switch to the power for the relay but its a bit of a bodge..

is there any solution for the ISO surround in a zed... or do all aftermarket headunits have to have the silver cage showing because of the way the zed surround tapers in? just looks untidy thats all?

Tracking q?
right guessing i should get it done at a decent place and not just mr tyre then.... any decent 4wheel alignment places around tamworth or lincoln?
-
Tracking q?
I asked for it but they claimed because of the hicas with their system they could only to the front wheels? I told them it wasnt active below 30mph anyways but they were having nothign to do with it..

taking out the bulbs.
yer or die trying lol!!!! make sure you have plasters at the ready and something to hit (in place of your zed) when it all gets too much!!!

Tracking q?
I finally got round to having my falken tyres as recommend by guys here and damn they good... the front grips so much better at all speeds and in the wet!! problem was the car was slightly pulling to the left before, payed for a track and balance with the new tyres but the problem got worse with wheel wobble above 40 and nolonger pulling left but the steering wheel biased over to the right a fair amount to go straight... went back and they rebalanced the wheels (removing the wobble...although if they had done this correctly first time... :headvswal ) and re-tracked the car again... the steering wheel is less baised to the right now (although still not centered) and the car has a slight pull off to the left (fairly slight just requires pressure on the wheel).. I phoned them up again and they say the car has been tracked in line with their guidelines.... any suggestions? It worth paying someone else to do a wheel align? Also they didnt move the wheels.. i have seen places before that move the car forwards while tracking and the lasers check for rotational tracking differences.. guessing this might help? They set my wheels to something like 1mm in it i think and 5mm was showing on the reflectors on the back wheels? might mean more to someone else...

how much £
its always worth spraying the bolts with lots of wd40 and leaving it to soak for a few days then repeating a few times... i did this when i replaced manifold and downpipes on my 200sx and it really helped the job along... used the best part of a can of wd with 5 or 6 good soakings but nearly every bolt came out with little effort and was well worth the work.. guessing a zed be even more impressive after !!

I would definatly recommend the bulbs danny does, had some uk spec 100W dipped bulbs and can now drive my zed at night and see where im going!! Fiddly as but if you take your time and scratch your hand, knuckles and anything else you try to f*(k you should get the bulbs in and out...
