  1. Thanks for your input antman, I think I will check over the VCT circuits and solenoids, may have a fault as you say. Should be easy enough to check that they are getting voltage. Will need to work put how to check the solenoids themselves mind.
  2. Thanks for your help mate. You too Markderby. Any thoughts on what the problem might be though?
  3. Anyone else with similar or alternative views on what the rattle could be? Nervous about driving her hard over the coming summer not knowing what the problem might be. The last thing I want to do is f*ck the motor up!
  4. I think you have a good point there z32bolt. As I understand it, if you polish the inlet too smooth, you get a condition known as wetting, this is where the fuel separates from the mix and clings to the smooth surface of the ports. Seem to recall reading it somewhere.
  5. I hope you are right Alan. I would hate to think that it might be something like a little end. I was assured when I got the car that the engine has only done 20 odd thousand miles. Mind you, I did have her laid up for 2/3 years while I sorted out the bodywork, maybe that did not do her much good? Is changing the lifters a big job? What would be involved?
  6. Hi Alan, I did try this for a 100 miles or more last year, and although it did quieten the lifter a bit, it did not go completely. It is difficult to hear on the video, but there is still the sound of the lifter. But under certain rev conditions there is definitely a distinct separate rattle, I am worried that it may be something more sinister though. ps Sorry Alan, meant to say thanks for the input mate.
  7. Hopefully if I have got this right, there should be a video of my engine rattle. Please have a listen and let me know what you think the rattle is. [video=youtube_share;eaLz3kwnLgo]
  8. this might be worth a read mate. http://z32.wikispaces.com/Factory+Service+Manual
  9. http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?150598-Handbrake-adjustment&highlight=handbrake+adjustment This may help.
  10. I think the main reason for the clutch pedal adjustment is to have a little free movement of the pedal. That way you can be sure that you have no pressure on the clutch itself until you depress it. As for the switches, would this have something to do with disengaging cruise control? DOH Must type quicker.
  11. Come on Noz..:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
  12. OK. The saga so far. I have managed to capture the video on my camera. Appears that the file format is quick time? What would be the best format to upload to you tube?
  13. Sounds like it could be either ignition or valve timing. Has is done high mileage? The only reason I say valve timing is that depending on the type of drive, IE belt or chain, It can become retarded due to stretch.
  14. I think it is about 2 days in July.
  15. I have recently swapped out my OEM downpipes for Japspeed stainless ones, leaving only the cast elbows with catalytic material. I then fitted 2 new 02 sensors. (both existing ones were tested to be dud.) No big deal I thought. So decided to tax her and take her for a spin. Once warm, I could not resist giving her some beans on a familiar stretch of road. WOW what a difference, it really did catch me by surprise! the rear started twitching through second and third and the sensation of raw speed was amazing. Had to back out of it and tucked her away in the garage to calm down. How could this really have made such a difference?
  16. Taxed her for 6 months!!! Bring on the summer.
  17. Yes mate. Took it off before I took the photos
  18. Cheers Znut. Appreciate your comments mate.:thumbup1: It was a very satisfying first drive after years of hard graft! I must have driven up and down the same stretch of by pass a dozen times!! By the way, did you post anything on the mig forum? Joely p, Sorry for high jacking your thread mate.
  19. http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=15465&page=26 http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=15465&page=33 Not wishing to discourage you, but this was the main cause of my rear arch troubles. Took a while, but got there in the end. Should outlast me! Well worth the effort. Hope it helps.
  20. Cheers Mate! :thumbup1:
  21. Cheers guys! Hopefully I will be able to post a vid at the weekend. Fingers crossed. Thinking out load... So first I take a short video on my digital camera? What do I do then? Save it to my desktop? Once I have saved it somewhere, then what do I do? (I am laughing at this point as I can't believe how thick I am!) lol Go easy guys.
  22. Can anyone help/advise me on how to ad a small video please? (maybe there is a how to link?) I have this worrying top end rattle near the rear of the engine just at the point of coming off throttle. Difficult to describe, so would love you guy's to have a listen. Cheers in advance.
  23. Looks like condensation to me. Nothing to worry about, quite normal I believe.
  24. I think that if you remove some of the plastic liners in the boot, you can access the cable so as to opperate the catch. maybe the cable has stretched slightly? Also, when you do get it open, check the hinge pin, it has a habbit of slipping out slightly and makes things stick.
