Building a Hoose
MHVR sounds interesting, not that I've any experience with it. My general building advice is to doubt everything your architect tells you/designs, barely any of what ours came up with for our loft conversion and extension has remained it was all nonsense that either didn't meet regs or was so over specced the building inspector was gobsmacked. His hairbrained ideas would have cost us thousands and thousands if I hadn't of questioned it.

Damn too tight belts preventing it from cranking.....I dread to think how many hours of tinkering in vain it would have taken me to think of that! Keep it up Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk

Alpine 193-BT & Alpine speakers G series 60W
I'm no expert or anything, just an amatuer that's dabbled on my own car's occasionally, but yea that would be a great improvement on stock speakers. If you've already got an aftermarket headunit, might not be much point in getting another unless you want some extra features. Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk

What did you do to your zed today?
I've done a fair amount of motorway driving in my time, most of it on the M4 so it's pretty busy, and I rarely DON'T have the cruise on. I find it easy and practical to use it pretty much all the time... and I'm not even a lane hogger, so that's with changing lanes often too. My 95 zed doesn't have it, don't want it driving that normally, but after an hour on long journeys I start to miss it! Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk

Stevens Car - My Statement
I guess mods can delete this if they feel this isn't the time or place, but I wanted to speak out. I posted something similar in Stevens thread, but feel it's worth posting here as well as this thread is focusing on Garry. As the subtly alluded to "other" one, I would like to offer my experience as a comparison. No I was never told that as I found the car and was paying for things up front whilst importing that, in Garry's view, I was bearing all of the responsibility for the condition of the car. That was never explained to me nor alluded to at all. In fact I have remained ignorant of that fact up until this very moment when I read this thread. Whether Steven got the same treatment I obviously cannot say. BUT as has been said by me before on this forum, Garry put a fair amount of effort into finding out about my cars history once the vin problem was spotted, and presumably paid for the government checks and translations himself as it didn't cost me anything. And, again said before, did in my case offer to buy the car back off me for the total price I had paid to him. So in my case, you can't say fairer than that. It was my choice not to take him up on the offer once I had spoken to the DVLA (and the pound had crashed against the yen!) I didn't use his garage so can't comment on that.

Clutch booster reservoir
I know it's common to do away with the clutch booster reservoir, but I've been driving my (manual conversion) zed a lot more recently and I can really feel when the booster doesn't have enough vacuum to operate properly. Pootling around town is fine, but when it's been boosting (ie no vacuum available) the clutch gets a lot heavier. Predictably it's most noticeable when I come off full throttle for a gear change. I'm hardly desperate, but I'm guessing it wouldn't be much work to put the reservoir in? Anyone got one?

Trust us it's worth it, I've always been offered lifts to the station so you can train back!

Modifying existing exhaust
I just had my aftermarket cat back (that I took off a donor car) rebuilt (well replaced I suppose!) because it didn't match up with my aftermarket test pipes very well and was the wrong length. I kept the existing back boxes because there was nothing wrong with them and the shop said they would be about £100 each. They are replacing the tips though as they were badly built and are somehow rusting, obviously not stainless! £200 for supplying and changing my 3.5" quads, or £100 if I supply my own. He has pestered me to go dual, but I personally don't think they suit a zed at all - quads fill the oval cutout much better. Do it!!

My terrible experience with trusting a so called club Importer to bring in a z32!
He did offer to buy it back yes, after much complaining by me, and he did put a reasonable amount of effort in to get the cars history from the Japanese government so we were satisfied it wasn't actually stolen. I ended up keeping it and I don't regret it because I think it was a good price. But I was pretty horrified he missed it on the auction sheet before he bid, and when the story broke 2 years ago it showed he didn't get the cars checked before shipping them. I guess very naive of me but I didn't think of it at the time, I just assumed he did get them inspected. I fully agree here, this negligence a second time is unforgivable IMO. He clearly just looks at the grade and nothing else or he would have seen the way the paint was described. How the car is graded 3.5 is a travesty, but I would say the description is accurate enough. If I were you, lobby to get your money back and rid yourself of it. This isn't your fault, it's his.

Electronically adjustable suspension
Anyone got any ideas why Nissan thought that was a good idea? Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk

Please help me diagnose a problem on a mate's rx8
I would be surprised if it was only wheel speed feeding the stability control. I can't see how it works unless it compares yaw angle (ie actual car angle) to steering wheel angle (ie desired car angle). Afaik it will only use wheel speeds to feed tcs, but not stability control

Chris's suggestion of monitoring/logging would show whether your theory was correct as well though, if it's a front that is causing it then it's probably not the rear tyre change!

Please help me diagnose a problem on a mate's rx8
For it to be as noticeable as it sounds, I would guess the geometry would have to be wildly out... He hasn't had the steering wheel off or something? Wheel alignment done? Could need recalibrating if something has been changed

Answers my question then, it does have stability control so yea could be fronts. But on a pedantic level it's not the tcs doing it I don't think if the fault is on a front sensor. Chris's suggestion of monitoring it live/logging is of course the best route, but I'm curious Tom, could you tell what it was trying to do? You may have been going too slowly to tell, but was it trying to turn in to the corner more or less?

Would the front wheel sensors affect tcs on a rwd car? My guess would be not. Does the car have stability control?

Electronically adjustable suspension
Mine came in with teins fitted, and when I fitted my wheels front right was rubbing over bumps, so as a short term quick fix I cranked the front shocks up to firmest to try and help. Having not used it much I've never turned it back down, and drove 120 miles at the weekend. I was very surprised, after not driving it for 10 months, how smooth the ride was! Interested to see what it will be like with them softened up again. IMO if you want a better ride, get coilovers. My old zed had lowered springs with afaik stock dampers, and I always thought it rode/handled well. But it was like night and day after I drove my current one with the teins. Maybe see if you can have a ride in someone else's car with them fitted. I believe cheapo ones are much firmer though so you've got to make sure they're decent enough. This post is getting long now but another thought, how old are your dampers? Maybe even new stock ones would be an improvement if they've seen some miles.

iPad Advise
Samsung's Gear VR does this apparently https://help.netflix.com/en/node/38626 but only at 480p. How comfy the headset would be lying down is anyone's guess, and you need a compatible phone. I presume you could also do it with a PC based headset, like Oculus or Vive, but you'd have to have a very expensive PC sitting next to your bed! I'm by no means an expert, but I doubt you'll get anything for an iPad. The iPad has nowhere near enough power for something like the Oculus or Vive, the solution would have to basically be an external screen rather than a VR headset, but I don't think they exist. You're more likely to find something standalone like HoloLens, but they're not in general release. There may be others I guess. Just get a TV fitted to your ceiling! Edit: This seems like a good guide for watching content on the Gear VR https://www.digitaltrends.com/virtual-reality/how-to-watch-youtube-on-gear-vr/

Replacing VIN plates - anyone done this?
Holy cow I looked high and low for these when I imported mine!!! Not sure if anyone will be able to find someone with matching stamps though. If anyone does, let us all know!

I haven't experienced them myself, just love the name :-P I wouldn't buy a proper budget tyre but I've dabbled in mid-range ones. I had kumho ecstas on my 406 coupe and thought they were quite decent. But then they didn't exactly have a hard life on a car like that, not sure I'd want them on a zed Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk
