  1. If you can bloody find one!!
  2. I had this on my old 406 once, I needed a quick fix so used a bit of old plasterboard beading bent into a cylinder  Oh and I needed an even quicker fix on my girlfriends old saxo once so I just jammed a nail in between the post and the ring  old bangers are a lot more fun to work on in some ways!
  3. Ah nice, what does that include? Gearbox removal? All bearings? Synchros as well?
  4. I was thinking about having mine done as the synchros have had it and it's quite noisy, mind if I ask how much it set you back? And where did you have it done?
  5. Got sent this picture today so will be able to rebuild soon!
  6. I don't understand why this hasn't sold, seems like a really good price to me. It's been around for months and months now! It was on auction a few weeks ago and "sold" (evidently not) for £2500, why so low?!?
  7. Sure does, new one is an interference fit behind a lip, don't need to glue or anything
  8. Yes that's whats happened. I did update the original thread but for your own benefit got the history docs from Japan and the VIN was ground off in 2003, presumably stolen recovered but too old for the records to be held. From then on it was registered under a different number. The auction house wasn't trying to pull a fast one, the non standard VIN was presented on the auction sheet, but my agent missed it. DVLA allowed me to register it under the original VIN in the end. Agent did offer to buy it back off me so it wouldn't have cost me anything, but I decided life was too short and I really like the car so decided to just keep it and worry about the consequences when/if I ever decide to sell it. I'm perfectly at peace with that and glad with my decision! Haven't done a great deal to it yet but here's my thread anyway http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?186395-Thready-McThreadface
  9. I've been a bit quiet lately, didn't get much done over Christmas and on new years day me and my girlfriend moved into our first house so busy with that as well! Zed is staying at my parents until I get a garage built (hopefully this summer) but they're only 40 mins away so I can pop back at weekends to keep things moving. In terms of actual work, brakes have been sent for powder coating, now have a passenger seat rail (bride RO) but the rail is so low you can't pull the slider handle up as it's touching the seat! So I'm having some spacers made up at the moment, should be here soon. Will make the seat the same height as the drivers. I should have just got two of them really, but live and learn. Also looked at the clocks to see what I'm going to do about MPH conversion. I found an excellent video on YouTube that details how you can wire converters into late series speedos so that only the speedo is changed and the power steering etc is not. After seeing Andy fit a series 3 boost gauge in though I'm quite keen to find one of them before I worry about faces, anyone got one lying around? :-P Oh and wanted to show off my new socket set as well, not bad for £150 with a lifetime warranty, the ratchet spanners alone are £50!
  10. Oh really? I'm surprised by that, good to know though
  11. You might already know, but they stopped being sold in the UK in about 94 but continued to be made/sold in Japan until 2000 I believe. So whilst it's not as if there are UK zeds about in abundance, that's why there are more early cars. You have to be a bit wary of imports that have been here for a while though IMO. My old 92 zed was imported in 2006, not undersealed so far as I can tell and is now corroded underneath, the sills have been done and the arches are going. My new 95 zed imported about 4 months ago was clean as a whistle, it's now undersealed and full of cavity wax. I presume UK zeds had more protection from the factory. So unless it's been taken care of, an import that's been here a while could well be worse than a UK zed
  12. Thanks for the detailed post, so it's not the earlier series boost gauge you are using, it's actually from the lasted series? I didn't realise that, I thought you were fitting the early boost gauge somehow!
  13. And that's where you come in hopefully! :-P
  14. To connect to the car yes, just looking for confirmation about the boost gauge and whether it does bolt into a series 3 cluster as you suggested
  15. Do you reckon it was a series 3 carcass you bolted it into then?
  16. Ooo nice, cheers. Would you mind pm'ing me some pictures so I can double check it will fit?
  17. Ah right, so you reckon there will be something out there that would bolt into my series 4 that would take a boost gauge? Series 3 maybe?
  18. Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but how the bloody hell did you do this Andy?!? Just pulled my series 4 clocks apart and I can't see how you bolted the boost gauge on, there are the outlines of the 4 bolt holes in the white rear section but they don't line up with any connections on the back. Also I swear I saw somewhere that you had a mph face on your clocks? Or am I wrong? How did you do it? Or did you just swap the face? I'm reluctant to do that as I'm worried about getting the needle right again
  19. Think I have looked at them before, but a lot of stuff was out of stock so I didn't order
  20. I LOVE SPROUTS. Eat them all rear round!
  21. All cars have this, have you ever got stuck in a car when parked on a hill? Or have you somehow managed to park upside down somewhere :-P
  22. Err what? If I'm right in what I said, then you've removed what makes it engage in that scenario!!
  23. So you would rather be rolling in a car where you're not rigidly attached to the seat so your head can bounce up and down off the roof?!?
  24. I know this is from 6 months ago, but this is the first time I've read this thread. I bet it's got the wrong side seat belt in it so the reel is upside down and locks up. I accidentally put the rear belts in the wrong way round on my black zed and they were jammed pretty much solid. Swapped them over and all was good. As far as I can tell, the idea is to lock the belt if the car rolls, stopping you from hitting your head on... well, everything :tt2: I would swap the right belt in before you do drive it properly
