  1. LOL, ok, yes that makes more sense! In my defence it was 00:56 and it had been a long day! (the day before) :)
  2. Yep, good idea, or you could end up in my situation -
  3. I used to drive a transit (many years ago now), a normal one, but don't imagine it would be long enough (unless it was the extended kind), but I don't think it would be wide enough either?
  4. I've actually discovered more following these pics, at the passenger side, basically the floor panel needs removing and the main chassis beam replacing, then new floor putting in, welded to good sill metal. http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?160220-Sill-question-how-many-sections-(Photos)&highlight=
  5. A Pentroof LWB sound very nice, but also expensive. :D As always I'm working on a budget, I do look forward to someday not working on a budget but that seems to be the thing of fairytale. lol I would be interested in that shell, but I imagine I'd not the the only one. Thing is, it comes back to transporting it...which it seems I cant safely / legally do, unless I want to pay £200 plus on a truck.
  6. Cheers all! This doesn't bode well, but I think I expected such responses, so fair enough. I've also looked at quotes for 'recovery' transporter trucks, but that's a minimum of £200, so that's just getting silly. Vodkashots - This is the Ebay project - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nissan-300zx-Twin-Turbo-Project-/190710917562?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14%26meid%3D1168038583816783998%26pid%3D100015%26prg%3D1006%26rk%3D1%26#ht_1154wt_198 I was just looking at it for the shell / chassis really, all the parts were more of a bonus, would mean I have spares (though no where to keep them other than my garden). I think I have to work with what I've got right now. Unless there is another storm tomorrow I'll cut the bad metal away from my Project Zed and see where I stand.
  7. So yeah, as recommended by someone in one of my previous post I removed the rear bumper and yes, it wasn't good, although I have to admit I was expecting worse! I don't think anything could surprise me now (perhaps discovering a diseased Roswell alien would, but that would be weird) as every time I remove something I find new horrors. The quest continues however, one way or the other.
  8. I was looking at a Zed on ebay, it was a project the guy is selling. I'm considering buying it, but very unsure, the first obstacle is getting it from Dundee, Scotland back to Newcastle. I looked into hiring a car transporter / trailer on the net. The whole trailer thing has thrown up all kinds of issues I'd never really considered, but now I'm wondering if my dads MX6 (2.5 v6) can safely pull a car transporter / trailer with a Z on it? I'm starting to think its not a good idea, especially as the MX6 is FWD. I'm not even going to ask whether I (or my dad) should have a trailer licence...that was a whole other can of worms. Any advice would be great!
  9. Cheers guys! I haven't bothered with the scanner. But I have my eye on an ECU/pump on ebay, so hopefully swapping it out will sort the main issue. I've checked all the fuses, so yeah, I think it's probably the ECU. I've pulled a relay out so the ABS light doesn't come on, I've booked an MOT on Friday, hoping they won't notice, but TBH I think they will. If they do then I'll have to spend the money on that pump and then maybe a new £100 sensor, let hope its only one, or hopefully none at all! Need to turn it around in ten days, which is cutting it close. Saying that a few years back I just kept taking my Mondeo back trying to get it through an emission test, I was well over any re-test deadline, but now the rules have changed I'm not sure how much they can bend (or ignore) them. Some day I'll get back to working on my Zed.
  10. Ok, I managed to pull the codes using a paper clip and watching the ABS light blink. I got the following codes - 11 Wheel-Speed Sensor (FR) System (Short or Break) 15 Wheel-Speed Sensor System (Abnormal Signal Output) 22 Wheel-Speed Sensor (FL) System 23 Wheel-Speed Sensor (RR) System 24 Wheel-Speed Sensor (RL) System 52 OFF relay valve failure or power system failure ABS-ECU This seems like a lot, and so my initial reaction is that the pump/ECU is actually at fault and causing the additional codes to pop up. Can anyone tell me if they think that's likely? Thanks
  11. Looking through the instruction on the listing, I don't think it reads specific ABS (or other) codes, just the generic ones, but I've never used a scanner...so I'm not all that sure.
  12. Hi, I'm trying to diagnosing an ABS fault on my Galant. I spend all day yesterday removing a sensor from a replacement hub that I bought (which had different size lugs for the calliper and didn't fit). The ABS light remains on. I've replaced a ring and that sensor and I've checked all of the obvious. Instead of paying Mitsibushi probably around £60, I figured I'd buy a reader, as its an OBD II system, and do it myself, plus its cheaper and I'm running out of money. I'm looking at this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Any-Car-Engine-Fault-Diagnostic-Scanner-Code-Reader-OBD-OBD2-OBDII-CAN-BUS-D900-/140625950490?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item20bdf5b71a#ht_12755wt_952 Will this allow me to read ABS codes? Should I be buying a simple cable and software to use with my laptop? I'm going out now to try to ground pin 8 and read codes from the dash, but I used to do this with my Probe (OBD1) a long time ago and I was never good at it! Cheers! :)
  13. I've had my N/A Manual up to 130 ish, was scary ish. I guess mine must be unrestricted, or unless the speedo isn't accurate. Either way doesn't really matter as she's not going anywhere on axel stands. lol :(
  14. Cheers, its worth a shot I guess, though I may have found a second had one for not a bad price. :)
  15. Hey, I know this is a long shot, but does anyone know where I can source an ABS sensor for a 2001 Galant 2.0 GLS. It's the front off-side. So far I haven't managed to find a used one (which is understandable as they don't come out easily, or in one piece) and new I'm looking at £130 (Dealer). I have found a couple new online, but they're also £130. Found a Japanese site, but worked out about the same... It's really annoying as sensors for other cars cost around £30, or less! I think its a Bosch sensor, but no luck tracing it. My only other option is to buy the whole hub with an intact sensor, which seems a bit mad really. AHH! If I have to pay £130 I'll feel disgusted with myself forever. Cheers for anything. :)
  16. I'm hoping it is just a sensor, but I'm going to pull the dash apart on sat and install a bulb, see what happens and go from there. I'm also trying to track my multimeter down, but it seems to have vanished..
  17. List of the new MOT rules here - http://uk.autoblog.com/2012/01/04/changes-to-mot-rules-in-2012-are-you-ready/ They've also included a rule on HIDs.
  18. Cheers, I kind of figured I'd probably have to fix it. Well, I better start reading up on ABS diagnostics! :(
  19. This isn't my Z, but my Galant. I've only just discovered that the ABS isn't working, then I discovered that the fuse was missing...then I found the fuse. After reinserting the fuse and having a drive; the ABS is constantly trying to engage under braking, obviously this is why the fuse was removed. There is no light on the dashboard, with or without the fuse. I personally don't care if its working, my first three cars didn't have ABS and I survived. Giving that there is no ABS light appearing on the dash at all (bulb removed I guess) will this be picked up at the MOT? Obviously if they look for a pump; they'll know it has ABS. It's all down to whether they look for the light coming on and off. Cheers
  20. Cheers, I was just after a ball-park figure but this is great! I'm hoping my outer front sill will be ok, at least on the near side, there is a little rust on it but I'm hoping this can be cut away and repaired. Sussex Stu has provided me with the a number for littlebird1303, so really all I need now is some time, money and patients, maybe some luck too. I'll keep you updated with my progress, but probably wont get back to working on my Z until the end of the month, I knew it would take time... Cheers everyone! :)
  21. That sounds real painful! lol Either way I sure there'll be plenty of pain involved!
  22. I think it was your post that convinced me to give it a go, and like you, if I don't fix her this way; it probably the end of Z ownership (at least for the near future) as there isn't really any point in buying another in the location I currently live , plus money is tight, so it wouldn't be sensible really. So I'll work with what I've got I guess... I think the cable is probably the Ariel, forgot about that, lol, really it's the only thing it could be and it's going from and to the right places. Regarding the sills, can you remember how much you paid, and where you sourced them? Cheers! :)
  23. Can anyone tell me what this cable / pipe is for. It runs along side the drivers side, it seems to come from the engine bay (or at least it disappears up into the centre console) and back into the boot area I think. It isn't the rear washer pipe, or boot / petrol flap cable, I've already disconnected those.
  24. Hey Redwine, I keep referring to your post, mainly in awe, wondering if I'll ever make it that far. lol Mine seems to be very similar to how yours was. My main question I think is how many pre-fabricated sections did you need to buy, it looks like you fabricated the entire thing? Did you fabricate this - and do I need to buy these - Cheers :)
  25. Hmm, this looks like good stuff, it might be worth investing in some! Cheers! :)
