Sill question - how many sections? (Photos)
Hi all, you may remember my post last year - http://300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?154249-Is-this-the-end-of-my-Zed-(Contains-big-ish-pics) Well, work has finally commenced - As you can see its not good, the other side is probably as bad at the back, the middle section is a bit better. My Zed is now on jacks and we have a MIG welder, so looks like we're giving it a shot. My question is this - how many sections are there to the sills? I'm guessing we have the inner sill, the internal bit with the holes - Then there's the outer sill which goes over the inner sill, this - (http://www.rhdjapan.com/nissan-oem-left-outer-sill-01u00-r32-63621) but then there is the rear outer sill too - Lets theoretically say I'm replacing all of it, inner and outer, how easy are these to source and what's the average cost? The inner sill doesn't need to look nice, so could be fabricated or some box steel used, but the outer sills will probably have to be purchased if I'm unable to salvage them. I've never done this level of chassis / body work before, so if what I'm saying doesn't sound right please let me know! lol

I want my interior light to come on when I unlock my car.
My Toad would light the interior lights when I unlocked my Zed using the fob, not sure about just the key itself.

3D Plasma TV - Any good?
Finally ordered this - http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/panasonic-viera-tx-p42ut30b-42-full-hd-plasma-3d-tv-with-two-free-pairs-of-3d-glasses-11854683-pdt.html Then noticed that my council tax hasn't come out of my account yet... Probably should call then, beg them not to take it! lol I'm sure the TV will be great, comes on Monday.

3D Plasma TV - Any good?
Ok, long story short - I'm moving back into my flat at the end of this month. I still have a CRT TV there... Yes, I know. It must be banished. It seems that if I go for a 42" full HD Plasma then I can almost afford a 3D TV. I want a plasma for the higher refresh for gaming and they have better blacks and whites. It has to be 1080p otherwise what's the point... The TV in question has great reviews on Amazon. I hadn't planned on a 3D TV originally but I've seen a good deal with free glasses which I'm very tempted to go for if I can stretch it. My question is does anyone here have a 3D TV (Active 3D) and is it worth it? Is it as good as the Passive 3D in the cinema? I already have a PS3 which will play 3D Blu Rays, so I'm set to go once I have the TV, and once I buy a movie that is. I should really be spending the money on a new boiler, or a new fence which has most likely blown away (seriously, bits were missing last time I was there, so now with this wind its probably all gone!) but that's the reason I don't already have a big modern TV as I keep having to spend the money on other things...

japaneese electrics !!!!!!!!!
Yep, nuts what a fuse can cause!

japaneese electrics !!!!!!!!!
I had a similar weird problem. I bought the car and discovered I had no interior lights, no biggy I figured, should an easy fix...one I'd do after Winter. After some time I noticed that the 'door ajar' light would randomly come on and off (the light on the dash could be turned on and off with the map lights!), sometimes it would just remain on, but very dim. This all caused the the alarm to go crazy as it wasn't sure if the doors were open or not. The Climate pod would never remember its settings, I almost always had to set the temperature and everything after the engine off. Still had no interior lights. Clock had a mind of its own... After trying so many things it turned out that I had a missing fuse (not blown, just totally missing!) and also an earth that hadn't been connected properly. Fixing the earth sorted the clock and pod 'memory', the rest was sorted by inserting a fuse! The fuse in question was in the drivers footwell, it the one for the interior lights / door ajar chime and Ariel, maybe something else too that I don't remember. I still find it hard to believe that a missing fuse can cause weird electrical problems like it did. I'd actually stripped the fuse box down expecting it to be soaking wet though dodgy drain tubes (of course it was bone dry)... EDIT - My original thread http://300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=146361&highlight=weird+electrical

Zeds all wrapped up until next year...
I won't really know what I'm doing until next year. If I can weld it then I will, the rest of the body seems fine, but if I find its impossible then I guess I can break, or transplant. I have nothing to lose really, there is no way she's going through an MOT (and also unsafe) in her current condition. As for the snow, my Zed was off the road last year during most of the bad snow, the clutch cylinder went and I couldnt get the damn thing off.... I borrowed my dads MX6 through most of the winter and had serious problems at work (they don't plough or grit the car park!!) and so found myself digging myself out most days and just making it out at that, normally with a push. Many had to abandon their cars, I can't imagine how RWD would have been in all that, I really don't think I would have made it, probably would have had to get a bus home and leave my baby!

No no, not for snow, should have explained...she needs serious welding and that's not going to happen till next year now... http://300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=154249

De-Spoilering
Yep, I went down the skin route, but still need to blend it in, which I intend to do whilst my Zed is off the road. http://300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=149640

brake discs
Got mine from Ebay a while back now, a place called The Brake Depot - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nissan-300zx-Grooved-Brake-Discs-Front-/300507008115?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item45f79d0c73#ht_1934wt_999 They arrived fast and I've had no problems with them, they look good too.

Zed SORNED - MIG Welder suggestions?
Thanks everyone! Really useful information! :) Yeah, annoyingly we used to have a factory and a three phase supply to work from, and a brand new welder (still have one mask) and a lot of tools, even a basic lathe which I made a custom aluminium knob on, then anodised it. Sadly that's all in the past... So yeah stuck with single phase, but didn't consider the home fuse box and being limited by it unless using a cooker socket, even then there'll only be a 13 amp fuse in the welder plug... Looks like I'll have to stick around the 180amp mark then. I don't think hiring is an option, I'll suggest it. If Redwine300 did all that with the Clarke 135TE then maybe than one, or the 150 TE is the way to go. I'll update everyone as it progresses, but once again - need to get winter out the way... :(

Zed SORNED - MIG Welder suggestions?
Well...sadly my Zed is now SORNED and sitting on my dads drive (wouldn't last long on mine). I have a 2.0 Galant estate which is different, very roomy and comfortable (except for the amazingly high accelerator pedal...my Achilles tendon is an inch longer now!), but it ain't no Zed. Next year the welding begins on the big nightmare hole discovered underneath. http://300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=154249 So wondered if anyone can suggest a MIG welder. I've had a little Oxy-Acetylene welding experience, but that's about it. My dad is buying it, he intends to weld all kinds of thing. Looking at around £250, with the ability to weld larger gauge things, like steel for gates etc. One where the bottle fits on the back tray would be ideal. Looking at Clarke welders, just cause thats mainly what people recommend or use, but doesnt have to be a Clarke, like I say, I know very little about welders... My Zed will live again!! (next year). Cheers!

Anyone ever had a ford cougar?
Get a Galant V6 maybe? I just bought a 2.0 Galant, very impressed with it build wise. The VR4 is the really quick one though.

Anyone ever had a ford cougar?
Selling one at the momment, but only the 2.0 and a bit broken... :D http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Cougar-1999-2-0-LPG-Converted-Spares-Repair-/190578715651?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2c5f606c03 I used it for almost 2 years, it was a good car, a little more room in the rear than the Zed, a deeper boot, but about the same width / length as the Zed. I'd recommend going for the V6 though. May St220 parts fit as mentioned above, and its a myth that its just a Mondeo underneath, sure there are common parts, but its not a Mondeo underneath. I had a Mondeo too, very different to drive.
