NA Engine Weight - 500Kg hoist?
Thanks, I didn't know this, but thinking about it; I suppose it does make sense. I'll bare it in mind, though won't be transplanting until August...hopefully it will be warmer then too!

Great, thanks!! :)

NA Engine Weight - 500Kg hoist?
Hi, I thought this would be easy to find out, but turns out it isn't...or least not for me! Will a 500Kg engine hoist happily hold an NA engine?

Wiring harnesses - from pod to headlights?
Cheers! Its way bigger than I thought it would be, but JaiKai'a guide will help immensely! I was going to strip out the interior anyway, but I never expected to be taking out the dashboard...all experience I guess.... As or the harness, I think this may well be what I'm looking for - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330894233269?_trksid=p5197.c0.m619

Wiring harnesses - from pod to headlights?
Cheers for this! First time I've seen it, I think. You've probably noticed that I've taken the easy way out and bought a shell...there just was no end to the rot, when the shell came up locally it was just too tempting. Its just totally solid, and two years younger! My hat remains off to your metal fabrication! :)

Wiring harnesses - from pod to headlights?
I looks like a nightmare job, though I'm planning to strip my shell (though hadn't planned to pull the dashboard out), but then I need to replace all harnesses (as the breakers cut them in the engine bay!!), so looks like I'll be taking out everything. This is going to take even longer than I thought! I guess the good news is that it's not the main loom! :)

Wiring harnesses - from pod to headlights?
It depends on which link you looked at, the more recent is - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...1&l=1c32d0655b I too have a bad feeling that the headlights are on the main loom / harness...

Wiring harnesses - from pod to headlights?
Hi, Can anyone tell me if the headlight wiring is part of the main engine loom (with the fuse box etc), or is it this one - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330894538614?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 There is also a harness that goes over the inner wing, but it doesn't seem to be that one as far as I can tell. I will at some point will need to replace the harness that goes from the pod to the headlights, either that or mess around with wiring. I was looking at the wiring on my shell, but couldn't work out where it was going, not without removing it. If anyone knows I'd be most grateful! :)

Project Z - The Second Chapter
Oh, I should have mentioned that when I come to put the engine in I'm probably going to need lots of help from everyone! :) I've never transplanted and engine and gearbox before...

Project Z - The Second Chapter
In Byker...yeah, I'm not too surprised your bike went missing here, though I think things are improving, I think. I had a Ford Probe when moved here (several years ago), it was keyed, walked over (literally), tyres slashed, and almost stolen...but hey, I'm stuck here for now. God knows how much insurance is going to be when I get my Zed back on the road, but I think CCTV is a must! If only laser turrets existed....

Project Z - The Second Chapter
Hey, I live in Byker, but both Zeds are on my dads drive about 5 miles away from me, as I don't really have enough room outside my flat, and they wouldn't last long in my neighborhood anyway. Sadly I 'm back at work tomorrow, and I don't feel like I got a lot done when I was off... were you offering to come transplant my engine for me? lol :D

Project Z - The Second Chapter
So finally, after spending several hours cutting away more and more rotten steel; wondering where it would end and what I'd be left with to rebuild I came across a Zed in a breakers locally. Personally I think I got a great deal, though I am annoyed that they cut the wire harnesses with a hacksaw...something I didn't notice originally as I was too concerned about looking for rot. Anyway - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10200455308479029.1073741825.1046268565&type=1&l=1c32d0655b My rotten Z can be seen if you follow the link below. Can't wait to get stuck in! Edit - Oh, BTW, this Z came from South Shields, and judging my the tax disc, it hasn't been on the road since 2004! Apparently the previous owner didn't want to part with it. Was this you?

anyone cut and fitted vents in there bonnet
Hmm, personally I like the smooth look on the Z. I have installed vents on previous cars, but I just don't think it would look right on the Z.

Rear subframe assembly removal (and turbo NA compatibility)
My old front subframe is totally rotten, but the one on my new shell is solid...and lot's of turbo bits all over, not surprising really; as it was a turbo. I already have turbo discs and calipers on the front, so no change there. :) Oh, although I didn't check, I'm fairly sure I have the ARB on the turbo shell.

Rear subframe assembly removal (and turbo NA compatibility)
Can I check - is the front subframe identical on turbo's and NAs?

Has anyone done any mods with EL panels?
So just a car shaped neon-type glow? lol I searched for him, and found a thread with a glowing "300zx" badge which was apparently in the window, but couldn't really work it out from the pics.

Has anyone done any mods with EL panels?
I guess not, is it a Tron car? lol I have been away from the forum for a while...but I'm back with a vengeance! Maybe not this year, but next, I shall finally attend a meet!
-
Has anyone done any mods with EL panels?
I've seen these, and when I have my Zed up and running I want to do something cool (and legal-ish) with them. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-EL-panel-sheet-10mm-1500mm-EL-tap-lamp-backgroud-set-Factory-sale-/221207217551?pt=US_Car_Lighting&hash=item3380fa458f I'm just surprised no one else already has, other than those dash dials I've seen? I just keep thinking Tron! lol

Rear subframe assembly removal (and turbo NA compatibility)
Cheers vodkashots, I was just going to remove the calipers completely, but yeah; normally I tie them to the strut. I'm assuming that the front subframe is identical on turbo's and NAs, I see no reason they they would be different?

Rear subframe assembly removal (and turbo NA compatibility)
Thanks! Though I think I should swap my NA diff (including subframe assembly) over to the new shell. From searching the forum it seems everyone does the opposite, putting an NA diff on the turbo. As my current shell is seriously rotten, I'm not sure where I'm going to support it from (it's currently on axel stands supported by the subrfame), but it seems best to swap the whole assembly over to the new shell, then I don't have to think about HICAS.

Rear subframe assembly removal (and turbo NA compatibility)
Hi all, Another post has prompted me to ask this (and steel the photo too! :D) Can I check with your good selves, are these the only bolts I need to remove to drop the rear subframe (in red)? - I realise that I'll need to unbolt the rear struts also. I'm hoping to do this tomorrow, or Monday. I realise It's probably a good time to change the bushes, but from what I've read it's a nightmare removing them, is a press required to insert the new ones? I was going to swap this rear subframe assembly (from my NA, with an NA diff) onto a series one turbo shell. However, the turbo shell I'm getting on Tuesday will have all this intact, so is there any reason I can't just connect my NA engine and prop to the turbo diff? I'm obviously not going to have HICAS, but can I simply remove the HICAS connection, or lock it out with one of those bars or something? Sorry for my ignorance but as I've never had HICAS I've never had to think about it, or look at it etc. Cheers!! EDIT - I found this - http://www.300zx-twinturbo.com/cgi-bin/manual.cgi?list=ra&dir=&config=&refresh=&direction=forward&scale=0&cycle=off&slide=18&design=default&total=35 So yes the sections I marked appear to be correct. From the looks of it, as the rear hubs are meant to move via the HICAS, I would have to connect a lock-out bar?

Are wire harnesses same for NA and turbo?
That's great thanks! :) I figured if it was possible then there would be extra plugs left over, but this means I can ditch my old harness and use the turbo one.
-
Are wire harnesses same for NA and turbo?
Hey, can anyone tell me whether the wire harnesses for the NA and turbo are identical? For example, if I was installing an NA engine in a previously turbo shell that already has the wiring intact, can I use the existing harness? (Replacing ECU etc with the NA one of course). Cheers! :)

I like this rear diffuser...
Oh, and here's me thinking I'd stumbled upon something few knew about in the UK, lol
