What's going on here....!!??
I think it's just a sign of the times, despite what you may read in the daily fail or other doom and gloom pushers the economy is improving. People have more money, we've seen that on here alone. Think how many more projects and better money resto's are being carried out in comparison to 3-4 years ago. People are starting to spend their money again, maybe not on houses and 100s of £k super cars like the goverment want but they are spending. Porsches are also really making crazy money anyway, the 911 market is mad. Some of those early cars are stupid, stupid money and by that token people want the brand, so the cheaper ones are becoming more desirable as well. I doubt you will see 924s get silly money but the 944 may soon become less of a bargain.

pitfalls or pro and cons changing out down pipes
So what down pipes are on it now?

Happy Birthday AndrewG
Many happy returns sir.

Boost Controller
The vac line to the Wastegate is the means of it opening rather than the electronic boost solenoid on the turbo, (not the one on the EBC) those just activate safety boost, do you still have them?

pitfalls or pro and cons changing out down pipes
Also just to add, I'm assuming your using a decatted down pipe? If so, there is a chance that fitting them could reveal that your turbo rear oil seals are failing, at which point you may or may not create a situation when it won't pass due to excessive smoke. This is how mine looked after being decatted. http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?163503-seriously-disheartened-now-and-just-wanna-burn-the-car-help!/page3&highlight=Turbo+smoke I'm not saying it WILL happen just that it's a factor to consider. I genuinely think you should consider a temp repair to pass the mot and do the down pipes properly when the cash is there. It's about solving the current minor issue short term not about ticking later boxes earlier if you get what I'm saying. From what your telling us you don't need extra headaches or expense right now that a more permanent solution could bring.

Downpipe removal
If you had access to a ramp and transmission cradles etc then maybe, maybe. Sure you will have more access but to go through the process of pulling the gearbox for that luxury, er no thanks. The passenger side isn't that bad as the battery being out gives you topside access and there's not much in the way from underneath other than the downpipe itself. The drivers side is less friendly due to the way the turbo sits as well as the steering collum, brake & clutch masters etc and the starter motor. Thankfully it's very quick and easy to remove the starter (remove the battery first yeah) which give you virtually the same access as the passenger side and a 3/8" ratchet and UJ will allow you access to those pesky top two. The steering collum is in the way mostly as a mental block and shouldn't actually cause any grief. The pain in the ass is the stupid heat shields (I binned mine) and the state of 25 year old heat and road abused studs and bolts. Some real care and patience may be required to prevent you snapping them. Once the down pipes off though there's more room allowing you better options to correct your cock up should you need to. As a side note with mine I have to fit the bolts all loosely first during refit before winding them even hand right, otherwise the lower ones bind on the Downpipe itself due to the curvature.

Boost Controller
No idea, sadly not got my mits on anything like that so don't have much knowledge of it. As I say though is expect a badge or something saying what the Wastegate pressure is or what it's range is. If you can work out exactly what they are maybe the answers on google. The other option would be to apply measured pressure to the Wastegate and see what it opens up at.

Boost Controller
Appears to be some moistness there and in the steering rack too. Might be worth a quick check that one.

Weight saving on a zed
I'm sensing you might have one or two skyline parts kicking about and your familiar with them. Thought about this option?

Weight saving on a zed
Is say that's a fair price. Just to swap a block tt to tt the labour is a very healthy portion. The extra labour appears to be free unless that doesn't include the cost of an engine.

Brembo brakes fitted
That makes more sense.

Weight saving on a zed
In that case buy a TT then. It will be cheaper and easier to change to an NA rear sub assembly than swap in a TT engine to an NA car.

Boost Controller
I expect the Wastegate actuator will have it's preset boost value written on it. It may even be adjustable. It seems quite common that most turbos have a higher rated Wastegate than stock which is a measly 7psi.

Weight saving on a zed
From memory the r230 and r200 diffs are about 20kg different, with the r230 being the heavier and il tell you now it's bloody heavy. You will save weight by not having hicas as you won't have two steering racks but that can be deleted on a TT without too much silliness. Tbh if your worried about weight you need the correct platform to begin with ie a slicktop, that extra 4" of sill and the targa accommodations add a whole fat kid. I believe the autobox adds a fair chunk of weight to. The NA is a fair bit down on power comparatively, you will not gain any power to weight out the box by simply choosing an NA. Even if you saved 200-250kg thats still 100hp your missing and as you likely know it's not hard to increase the tt's power. Tuning an NA is a mugs game in my opinion the financial outlay to get an NA close to closing the power gap is very high esp considering the aforementioned ability for the TT to gain power. That being said the NA is a solid car, what you loose in power you gain in reliability. That has it's merits. It really depends on what you want overall and how you plan to use it. I know of an NA slicktop that's faster on track than most people in TTs, shorter gearing might help but I suspect the driver helps more. You can go through pretty drastic weight loss like jaffa's car, it is a focused track weapon though. Personally despite the fact I've thrown a lot of crap (or luxuries) out I wouldn't want to loose the door cars for example. Most of what I've removed has been for the aim of simplification purposes rather than out and out right weight loss.

pitfalls or pro and cons changing out down pipes
I didn't think it was bad at all just fiddly. It's the luck of the draw as to how those turbo elbows will behave. If your lucky after a good soak in WD or similar they will wind right out. If your unlucky you will snap studs etc leaving you with a new problem. Can you not make a temporary repair, gum gum or exhaust wrap for the mot which will last a little while. I know it's not ideal but it's not an ideal scenario. If your not mechanically confident you could cause more head aches than it's worth when a simple temporary repair in this case may be adequate.

red Z32 stolen Chesterfield
Well either way the truth won't stay hidden long. It will either be found by the police/walker etc in a carpark burned to the floor or the parts will start cropping up all over the bay etc. Although that being said I've seen cars get nicked and be found out of fuel or tyres parked very casually in a residential street, effectively with not much harm done. I maintain though it's an odd car for a general car thief to nick.

Fitting Power Steering Pump
I know I've struggled to get the pump into the bracket before as if it it didn't quite fit. Some filing made that easier. I can't really grab what your asking though. You are refitting the pump that was previously in there yeah?

zed prices rising

Zed on Pistonheads for sale (Nissan - 'other models' category)

Zed on Pistonheads for sale (Nissan - 'other models' category)
Wow, not have I seen such a quick sale and hot competition for a broken z32 at a price of over a grand...really shows how things are changing as not long ago you could buy a straight and functional version if unloved for that sum.

Bournemouth Wheels festival. May 29-31st
Currently working on a club stand with the organisers, which depending on their restrictions may or may not be open to all FairladyZ's from 69 to present.

Is the punishment befitting if the crime?
All very good points. You can hammer them but it's the consumer that will pay, so maybe financial punishment isn't the way forward. I just find it annoying that had this been a terrestrial event one that effected avian and mammalian life they would be crucified. Yet despite the fact that it will effect both longer term the public interest to prosecute and damn them isn't there due to the aquatic mature of the incident. The truth is if cod had fur there would be riots, but they don't so sod it....

Bournemouth Wheels festival. May 29-31st
This event had it's first year last year, so it wasn't that one. I think your thinking of the sunseeker Rallye which we hold each year, it's a qualifying round for something or other which means we get the full run of rally cars from classic minis and escorts right up to present day focus' etc I've been a few times myself. Sadly the gardens and promenade part has been dropped due to health and safety about 5 years ago now I suppose. It's still a great event though, kind of requires a hack or 4wd as many stages are in the sticks and you need to drive across the swampy feilds to reach the stages to spectate. Bournemouth wheels festival is more tourist aimed and is based long the beach spread out over miles. Following a similar format to the much loved bournemouth airshow. Think goodwood with a spade and bucket and FREE. You can expect stuff like this;

Haynes Breakfast Club meeting - Sunday April 12th
You would be more than welcome. As for history of your car, it's worth taking some pictures and popping them up in a thread. I'm sure someone will recognise it if it's a club car.
