JaiKai - MK2 - Ziggy Build
I'm thinking I've damaged the valves when I originally dismantled everything. As I don't recall putting everything at top dead center. I'll soon find out i'm just about to take the valves out again and see how easy they move.

JaiKai - MK2 - Ziggy Build
Bottom end reassembled and everything is rotating easy enough. :) So before I bolted down the cylinder heads I dismantled them once more on the bench. First I removed all the lifters in sequence and then fitted the camshaft, at this point I just wanted to see if they rotated easily enough which they did when they were properly lubed up. After carefully fitting the lifters again and ensuring that they are not jammed and move easily I torqued down the cam shafts again. As a test I but one of them on its side and using a spanner tried to manually open the valves. This is were the problem lies :( It took a lot of effort to get them moving so I think the valves must be damaged. Tomorrow i'll dismantle them again and get the valves out to check but I believe that i'll have to order a new set.

A game of Identify the Part
No This was the engine from my last zed. The engine lost oil pressure then seized on the way to the nec. Then it was hit by an artic lorry and written off.

Only taken two years to diagnose the reason Purple Rain broke down. Looks like it decided to eat itself from the inside out.- A game of Identify the Part
So The questions are : what part is this ? Where did it come from ? What zed previously owned by me did it come from ?- JaiKai - MK2 - Ziggy Build
I've left the crank in held only by the oil pump and seals and rotation is very good and free. Even with the crank cover on it felt just as loose and free as it is with it off. I don't think I will bother stripping it any further as I would have to split the seals and risk wasting two paper gaskets. I made another wee video to show the crank moving. If you haven't already noticed I've enabled the Facebook Integration. We previously tested this about a year ago but at that time we never had the site fully SSL enabled. Now that we are 'SSL Enabled' the platform is secure its now tuned on. You can all link your accounts directly with Facebook by using the connect button near the top login bar. The integration will allow you to publish your posts and threads directly to Facebook and also make registration to our club a lot easier. Any questions let me know. Lee- JaiKai - MK2 - Ziggy Build

Agreed, Engine rebuild Take II :) Ordered up some proper lube you originally suggested, i'll start breaking the engine down tonight and start again. I started this build in the works yard and moved everything to my home garage so i've either done something wrong or something is wrong with the bottom end since it was dismantled.- Happy Birthday Stewart Gunner

Here we go, all turning fine, but just seems really stiff. [video=youtube_share;59CQRmP7dQo]- JaiKai - MK2 - Ziggy Build
Before I start again i'll see if I can take a video this morning- JaiKai - MK2 - Ziggy Build
Lower shim is fitted but it is hard to see in the pictures. I think i'm going to split the block and start again. Something doesn't feel right and there is no point on continuing the build until i'm sure.- JaiKai - MK2 - Ziggy Build
Everything was torqued down to specification in the manual using a torque wrench.- JaiKai - MK2 - Ziggy Build

Started again, took everything off; bought myself a torque wrench and done all the bolts to spec. Timing belt also now on and I can rotate the full thing with any knocking noises. However it's very hard to turn so can anybody tell me how easy or hard it should be to manually crank the engine? - A game of Identify the Part
