  1. Come on guys get the votes in. If only to bruise FunkySi's ego by making him seconds place. :tt2:
  2. reopened. BigH's fault :)
  3. Done exactly this and found i5 to be the culprit. After I tighten i5 the cam locks up. :( There is a score on the cap so its somehow got damaged. Spoke to Jimmer also to diagnose the issue (thanks). Just need to try and fix this cap or somehow get it replaced.
  4. Yes torqued to specification noted in the manual I have. followers ? Do you mean the cylinders the cams push down, ie lifters ? Yes, I removed them and fitted the cams back and torqued them down again and they are just as stiff.
  5. Yip, Whole thing was stripped down, new baring's, seals, piston rings. With the heads off I can move the crank and pistons move fairly easily so its nothing below that's the issue.
  6. Inner is extremely tight, outer I can move with a bit of help from a wrench.
  7. Yes all numbered and in the correct order, they were carefully placed in tubs before and after each disassembly. The right hand bank [passenger side] is freely moving and is fine and the the left side only moves freely without the bolts being torqued down. Soon as it is torqued down then its extremely tight. Done this with and without the lifters installed so nothing below is obstructing theme from moving properly.
  8. What year are they ? Newer model the better but i'll take one off you hands. I'll have to split the block at your place as no way to move it down here. PM me a price buddy and i'll see about coming up at the weekend if I can. Cheers Sandy
  9. The outer one is stiff but I can move it easily enough with a wrench. The inner one takes a fair force to move at all. Removing the lifters I can turn it over but again its stiff and can barely move by hand. Somethings not right and I've stripped and rebuilt it 4 or 5 times now.
  10. Well nearly, Not sure how but I think the left hand cam block has warped or damaged. Reassembled the block for the third time and when everything is torqued up the cams cease and can barely move. Now I know when times they are under pressure pushing on the lifters and springs but its so tight its ridiculous. The cam brackets are all in the correct order and its properly lubricated and the torque settings i'm getting from the manual. Looks like i'm gonna need two new top cylinder blocks. Now the question is - My zed is a series 4 and the top plenum along with the lower plenum are slightly different. Does that go for the blocks too ? Anyone got a known workings set they can sell; fully working with cams, lifters and valves ?
  11. Your standard subs have run out. I'm in Paris so one of the other committee will need to check when your Trader subs are due and reactivate them.
  12. Just paid 3k for my paint job but the garage is up north.
  13. This was Purple Rain from start to finish.
  14. I would love to put my zed forward for this but I don't believe it would be finished on time. :(
  15. People changing thread titles and me not noticing till later that day.
  16. Belated Happy Birthday Bird.
  17. Back working on the engine again today and the sump is sealed up nicely and the top cylinder heads are torqued down again to spec. I was about to put the lifters all back in and I noticed that they all went soft so 2 hours later they are all rebuilt for the second time. Lifters now back in place next job tomorrow night is to start putting the camshafts in and torqueing them down.
  18. :sneaky2: You mean club !
  19. All came togther nicely and on time. With less than a week from the drive getting done and the leave date on the yard is next monday night. Still to move my gearbox, old exhaust and a few tools that i've left.
  20. I original planned to get the zed home at the weekend but discovered that the trailer wouldn't be available. So the schedule had to be bumped up a bit and she made the trip home tonight. Two hours all in to get her strapped up, moved back to its new home then take the trailer back. Arrived home we offloaded the zed into the street. It took three of us to push the zed of my drive, over the stones to its final stop in the new garage. A nice fit with plenty of room all round.
  21. Well, its good news. Dismantled the top end carefully and the valves are all good. One by one I removed them and checked how smoth they moved. I also inserted the lifter again without the spring to see if they move freely enough and they do. Next job is to start again and put it back together. :)
